lovely model - this one is proposed to be demolished I believe in real life

been making models in sketchup then uv mapping with 3ds max, blender seemed a bit too complicated for me starting out but perhaps I should look again @templeofdoom

@Trist14222 - what modeling software do you use? I use blender and there are a few "shading" tricks and "modifiers" you can use to help with keeping geometry low - sometimes though - you have to sacrifice either performance or quality for some aspects of the model to balance it all out - it's all a balancing act.

thanks for the tips @templeofdoom !
I'm attempting to make a series of high victorian buildings atm with pediments, arches columns etc.. so it's a real challenge figuring out how to reduce tris on those
templeofdoom Jan 25, 2017 @ 9:43am
@Trist14222 - yes less will be generally better but it's always gauged on the size of the building and what you need to achieve. Sometimes skill levels will dictate more tris whereas others can get by with less doing similar things. I think for something that won't be plopped a lot of - such as this school - you should be ok with the number of tri's but generally for growables and things that will be repeatedly rendered you'll want to scale it down a notch. Texture sizes also make a big difference in the overall impact of the performance of an asset as well - smaller always better. Practice makes perfect when it comes to your 3D modeling geometry and check out various ways people model buildings on youtube and even check out buildings in game up close to see how people did what they did.

fair enough @wkilpatrick1983 though we are playing a game without class distinctions between citizens and where all schools, hospitals and other services are provided by the government so marxism may have already creeped in somewhere ;)

TS is a dangerous organization. Blabatsky's ideology was very inluential to the comunist party :( lennen and marx both highly revered this woman. Not to mention satanist Alister Crowley! Great building but not in my city.

@templeofdoom 4,200 tris and just standard 1024x1024 png texture map.

I don't know a lot about 3d modelling as im just learning, is that amount of tris a problem I should think about for a unique building? I know less it better
templeofdoom Jan 23, 2017 @ 3:09pm
Can you provide the asset stats - as in the 3D model & textures? What is the tri count? What textures did you apply and which resolution are they? Thank you in advance.

Very nice one, I really like how you decorate the walls of your assests!
