Navigating to the file
Its pretty eazy to find the file to edit.
One files you will need to go into is GameUserSettings, the other one is Engine their both located in the same plase.
just press the windows key and enter %appdata% into it,

Then a window will pop up like this

Once you are on that window press on appdata and go into local it should look something like this

Press on Astro, then Saved, Config and then WindowsNoEditor you should end up onto a page like this one

Go into GameUserSettings and Engine to edit the settings it should look like this:

and this:

And thats it, you're done!
Editing GameUserSettings
Make a backup file before you do anything just incase the game doesnt work after you followed these instructions

We are going to change these settings:
  • sg.ViewDistanceQuality=3
  • sg.AntiAliasingQuality=3
  • sg.ShadowQuality=2
  • sg.PostProcessQuality=3
  • sg.TextureQuality=3
  • sg.EffectsQuality=2
  • sg.FoliageQuality=3

Change all of these settings to:

  • sg.ViewDistanceQuality=1
  • sg.AntiAliasingQuality=1
  • sg.ShadowQuality=1
  • sg.PostProcessQuality=1
  • sg.TextureQuality=1
  • sg.EffectsQuality=1
  • sg.FoliageQuality=1

Before:

After:
Editing Engine
Go into Engine and paste:

[/script/engine.renderersettings]
r.DefaultFeature.MotionBlur=False
r.LightFunctionQuality=0
r.ShadowQuality=0
r.Shadow.CSM.MaxCascades=1
r.Shadow.MaxResolution=512
r.Shadow.RadiusThreshold=0.1
r.Shadow.DistanceScale=0.6
r.Shadow.CSM.TransitionScale=0
r.DistanceFieldShadowing=0
r.DistanceFieldAO=0
r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0
r.RenderTargetPoolMin=300
r.LensFlareQuality=0
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
r.EyeAdaptationQuality=0
r.BloomQuality=4
r.FastBlurThreshold=0
r.Upscale.Quality=1
r.TonemapperQuality=0
r.LightShaftQuality=0
r.TranslucencyLightingVolumeDim=24
r.RefractionQuality=0
r.SSR.Quality=0
r.SceneColorFormat=3
r.TranslucencyVolumeBlur=0
r.MaterialQualityLevel=0
r.SSS.Scale=0
r.SSS.SampleSet=0
r.EmitterSpawnRateScale=0.75

Paths=../../../Engine/Plugins/2D/Paper2D/Content

After that it should look like this:

Your done!

@NRUB you're right, but also this is an old guide that i made 2 years ago. It actually used to work but now the game is so unoptimised that doing any of these don't work anymore.

Except game suffers from poor rendering pipeline design and lack of optimization thereof, not heavy GPU load. No amount of lowering settings will ever solve single threaded driver limitations.

Well what if we still need to lower FPS if the 'low' options still don't work? I still have some fps issues, and it makes multiplayer even more difficult. Can these file edits still work?

Yeah, this doesnt apply anymore

unless theres an update coming to the game that allows you to change the settings without editing files no
