How to Tell if an Item is Modded
By Poseidon
Most people have seen the rule that modded items are not allowed, but how can you tell if an item is modded or not? This guide will help you from getting caught with modded items.

Introduction
Everyone has logged into the game and seen this lovely image.
However, has anyone taken the time to let people know what is and isn't a modded item? Well this guide should help you stay as in-the-right as possible!

Now just to be clear, this will not be able to be used as a "guide" to create modded items. This will only be usefull for staying away from clearly modded items. If you ever wanted to know if an item is 100% legitament then you should post a screenshot of its stats here[dungeondefenders.com]. This is the itemcheck thread.
Armor
The easiest way to see if an item is clearly modded or not is to look at the limits of an item. Every tier of gear has a maximum stat that it can reach. We will start with armor. Armor is easier to tell if it is modded or not because it has very rigid limits. It cannot overcap (spawn with stats higher than you can upgrade it to) and it can only cap in so many stats.

*Any armor that is below mythical will cap at 360, just like myth; however, I am not sure how many times it can cap. For sure below 4.
Pets
Next we will cover pets. Pets are a bit more interesting. There are more exceptions to the rules. Most pets follow the same rules as armor. They don't spawn overcap and they follow the rules of their item quality. There are a couple exceptions though, and here they are:

- Giraffes on tredmill cap at 360
- Turtles on a tredmill cap at 400
- Pirates on a treadmill cap at 650
- Fishbowls softcap at 500 and hardcap at 600
- Treadmills on a treadmill softcap at 700 and hardcap at 725
- Amorphic embers softcap at 800 and hardcap at 825
- Kobalds and Skeletons on treadmills cap at 600

Softcap means the maximum you can level something to.
Hardcap means the maximum it can spawn at.

Now onto the damage of pets. For the most part use common sense. Is a pet doing 100m dps on its own? It is probably modded. For reference one of the highest damaging pets in the game is a mega chicken. A 37.4k mega chicken (almost as good as they get) with 4k hero damage does 10.1m dps without hero boost. If anything is doing more than that it is most likely modded.
Weapons
The hardest of them all, weapons. There are many weapons that spawn overcap and then the pain of trying to figure out obsidian weapons. However, I would just stick with the general limits of item quality. The chart in the armor section will help you figure out most modded stats.

Now the damage of a weapon is a bit easier to determine if it is modded. Again use common sense with this one. For reference a high end huntress weapon will do around 3-4m dps. A high end apprentace weapon will do around 6m-7m dps. High end squire weapons on a barbarian will do around 6-7m dps. (all of these are without any boosts (cat/hero boost) on nightmare hardcore)
Events
Some people with modded items may try and claim that their items are not modded, they are just events. Do not be fooled by this. Here is the official list of all event items. If the item is not listed here, IT IS NOT AN EVENT.
Conclusion
I hope this has helped you in figuring out what is modded and what is not. If you have any suggestions please feel free to leave them below.

This guide is intentionally vague. I do not intend to go into any specifics to make sure I am not making a modded item guide. The weapon section is mostly correct. Huntress damage could be a bit higher if you use a SL huntress. However the apprentace and squire dps estimates are correct on the high end if you shoot your stave correctly (not just left click right click). I used a 430^ bloodshot for my estimates. Any good stave above 400^ will get around that damage.

A-ni-morphic Ember hard caps at 825
Seaturtle on a Treadmill (ToW surivival) is 700/725

Weapon dmg maybe shouldn't be listed or given such exact numbers unless you're prepared to be detailed. There are so many dmg modifers and penalties (hero, costume, weapon specific, etc, nm mode) that new players really wouldn't know what's what. For example, your staff dmg seems really high to me unless you were using rainmaker and/or macroing for optimal output. Huntress weapon dps is also much higher if you put the blaster on tuxedo ranger instead of jester due to different hero scaling and a hidden dmg penalty to jester using any weapon but staves (game treats jester as apprentice).

Those numbers are with an apprentace weapon that has all shots hitting the target with no boosts (no cats, no hero boost) on nightmare difficulty. If you wanted an insane difficulty reference a high end apprentace dps weapon could average 40m dps.

For the apprentice weapon are you assuming you are just autofiring and only the middle two bolts are hitting the target? My Jester, with her staff, when standing right next to a target and doing the autofire and hitting with all bolts does around 25 million dps. If I back up so just the middle two bolts hit the target I'm just over 8 mill DPS.

i honestly dont see what the problem is with modding, like if i want to make my weapons neon doesnt give me and advantage over anyone else.
