RCF Explained For Freshies (Beyond Basic Training)
By spaceman51
In this tutorial I made for Red Crucible: Firestorm, I cover game modes, different types of maps and vehicles, and sort of my own take on how I understand the game, especially when it comes to tips on controls, helicopter flying, parachuting and more. I've given a basic outline here, but here's a link to the video ;)

Vehicle Maps Vs. Infantry Maps
In order to join a match with the kind of gameplay you want you'll want to pay attention to the map type. Maps that spawn tanks, jeeps, arty, helicopters, etc. are labeled with a helicopter. Maps that are on foot only are labeled with a little RC guy. Between these two different types of maps in the game you've got different game mode sets.

---VEHICLE MAP GAME MODES---

1. Territories
This is a 5 or 3 point domination game mode depending on the map.

2. Frontlines
This next one you've got is a cool variation of Territories called Frontlines. This is usually 5 point domination with the game being focused on one point at a time...the "frontline". As the name suggests, only the frontline point can be captured and, once it is, the next frontline is closer to the spawn point of the team that lost the last frontline. The frontline point shows up as a diamond on the map and HUD. If you can capture each point, you can gain points really fast.

3. Conquer
The third game mode in the vehicle map set is Conquer. This is single point capture gameplay where the capture points change after a while. It is just like "HQ" in Modern Warfare if you've ever played that.

4. TDR: ArmoredVehicle maps have their own version of TDM called TDR: Armored.

---INFANTRY MAP GAME MODES---

1. TDM: Resources
Infantry TDM has "resource points". In Red Crucible, you may want to capture a resource point to resupply ammo, but you don't have to. Either way it doesn't affect your team's score.

2. Search and Destroy
This one is fun. The attacking team gets a bomb they have to plant and the defending team has to kill everyone to defend. I don't play it as often as I should but it's a clone of "Sabotage" from Modern Warfare as far as I know.

3. Survivor
To be honest, I don't know what the deal is with this game mode. I think the idea is that all the players are supposed to be infected. That's what I said in the video, but it's not an HvZ mode or anything like that. In this mode, your health is constantly decreasing slowly and in order to stay alive you pick up "adrenaline packs". On top of that, last man standing wins.

4. Territories
Same, just no vehicles.

Control Tips
RCF has some cool, hidden features.

1. Third Person View
For instance, you can press V to go third person and this is perfect for peeking around corners. It adds a whole aspect to the game. While in third person, you can spin the mouse wheel to put the camera behind the other shoulder on your character. Now you can peek around the other corner from cover. Or Maybe you need it because you're lefty, or even left eye dominant, something like that.

2. Map
Press U and you can pull up a map. This is real nice to have especially if you're chatting with friends. The map used to be better labeled in older versions, but at least think of it this way: a satellite image isn't always labeled. Use your nav skillz ;) The HUD shows you what's what though, and it tells you how far away you are from a target, in meters. You can take advantage of the information the game gives you in teamwork applications to give your team your ETA, show them where you want them to strike, etc.

3. Quick Commands
If you have a number pad you can issue an audio quick command, something that your character says that can be heard in game by players nearby. I really like this feature. There's ten of them so it gives you pretty much everything you need, tactically speaking. Don't have a number pad? No worries - just redo key bindings.
Vehicles and Items
---Vehicles---
1. Tanks
You can toggle view in tanks as well. L-click fires shells and R-click fires co-axial MG. Use F to zoom in. If you use different combos of V and F together to change your view it can help make you a better tanker. The same applies to most of the vehicles we'll cover.

2. APC
More or less the same as tanks besides the fact that explosives and MG controls are switched

3. Jeeps
Use jeeps to get to capture points quickly. They are really fun and sometimes you can go unnoticed in the trees on the giant flanks that some maps have.

4. Artillery
If you don't know how to use V, arty will be useless. View toggle gives arty a birds eye view. You can also zoom in with F in this view. Depending on which team you're on, arty can do some serious devastation.

5. Helicopters
I don't know why you'd want to use a transport helicopter - a good distraction I guess. Regardless, spacebar is to go up and speed up, and C is to descend.

---Items---
When you buy stuff you can place items in whichever slot. The slot you have selected will use that item if it's not currently grenade slot. It's easier to press a number on the keyboard for parachutes, arty strikes, and air strikes.

Parachuting takes some practice, but can be awesome if you get it just right. Don't go unless you're very high up. Once you jump out spam 9, or whichever slot you have parachute put in, otherwise you will gain speed downward and die because you can't deploy with the helicopter in the way immediately after you jump.

Weapon and Armor Upgrades
Here's one that I forgot to cover in the video. The most important thing you should walk away with after reading this section is this: YOU DON'T HAVE TO SPEND TONS OF GOLD TO GET A NICE GUN. Sure, you should buy stuff and support Rocketeer Games but I'm also going to show you how the weapon unlock system really works if you don't have enough gold.

From the main menu, click on "CHARACTER" to access the inventory. From there, click on "UNLOCK" in the top left tab. The unlock menu is a tech tree - once you unlock the first gun, you can unlock the next one, then the next one, and so on and so forth. As you level up (which you need to do) you can get better weapons for a nice low amount of honor points. If you find a gun you really like and will use forever, you can upgrade it to higher tiers using gold.

If you want better armor protection now and don't want to wait to level up, or if you found a camo pattern or appearance combo you like and wish that it was as good as top tier armor (in terms of its protection stat) but that top tier armor may be ugly to you in comparison, you can upgrade armor with gold to the point that it is basically as good as top tier.

After you play for a while, you'll realize that you don't need hundreds of gold coins to improve the items you like. Leveling up and daily bonuses will give you enough.

What I was explaining about tiering up armor applies to guns as well. Upgrading a gun's tier upgrades its stats. It seems you can't go higher than tier 10.

For example, on my old account, I max tiered the M21 sniper rifle because I'm a fan of the M14 platform and the scope is one of the best in the game. This put it above par of the VSS (damage-wise), to put it into perspective. It will never compete with the OSV96 and M82 though which come next and remind me of premium items. The unlock chain only makes sense up to tier 10 IMO and then it starts getting wild.

At least ending with tier 10 would follow the same logic as other games that give weapons/items a "tier" and 10 is the best. Even though the unlock tree actually goes up to tier 12. I know, it's confusing and doesn't make any sense. Case in point: if there is an item you like, you can upgrade it as much as you want, TO THAT POINT.

what does upgrading a guns tier do?

Transport helis are used (atleast by me) to get to capture points quickly as they have more speed than the average attack heli. They're also more safe cause you're not on the ground. Vehicle mgs can shoot at you but they wont kill you instantly unless you stay in the air too long.
