How to Hide Weapons
By Song Vee
Here's a simple guide on how to hide weapons that you might not even need on your adventures. It can also help you enable the in-game console

Here's how it is
Have you ever thought of getting rid of the weapons that your class doesn't even have training for?

With this guide you'll be able to make your weapons invisible and make your back look clean, since when does an adept need an assault rifle?
  1. First, you have to enable the in-game console.

Go to ...Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Config\ and open BioInput.ini with whatever text editor you want, I used notepad for this step.

Before you jump into the tedious progress of tweaking the ini, make sure that your BioInput.ini is not in read-only mode. You can check this via right-clicking the .ini, clicking properties and ticking the Read-only mode off. Remember to save.

Locate [Engine.Console] and add a line ConsoleKey=CapsLock just a few lines under it. This will allow you to open the in-game console via pressing CapsLock.
You can use other keys as well, but I found it best to just use CapsLock, since the game doesn't always recognize non-US keyboards and so the keys could be mapped differently.
Be sure to save the progress and exit the text editor.

This is how the BioInput.ini tweak you've made should look after you've completed this step

    [Engine.Console] MaxScrollbackSize=1024 HistoryBot=0 ConsoleKey=CapsLock

  2. Now you can use the in-game console which can be used to execute different commands, like changing the field of view or enabling fly cam.
The console is roughly three fourths of the screen, so don't be alarmed. Simply pressing CapsLock (or whatever key you assigned it to) or Esc to close the console.

Now, the step you've been waiting for patiently.
    To make the desired weapons invisible type the following commands into the console without the quotation marks;

    • Assault Rifle: "giveitem self 1 gethgun_hopper manf_hk_weap"
    • Handgun: "giveitem self 1 gethgun_drone manf_hk_weap"
    • Shotgun: "giveitem self 1 gethgun_shotgun manf_hk_weap"
    • Sniper Rifle: "giveitem self 1 gethgun_sniper manf_hk_weap"

The weapon(s) appear to be bigger than they were a minute ago, but that is only temporary. Simply quicksave (F6) and load that save from the mission menu.
And now the weapon(s) that you wanted to make disappear will be gone.

This is how it will look in the inventory
    Before
    After

  3. Squadmates can also be equipped with these invisible weapons. This can be done simply via going to a mission, selecting the squadmate(s) you want, then exiting the Normandy if it's not a Mako world, then making it so that your "speak" reticle is on the squadmate and typing the command listed earlier, but this time swapping out the "self" to "target". Then just quicksaving (F6) and then again, loading that save from the mission menu. Sadly, if you wish for all 6 of your squadmates to have some of their weapons hidden, you'll have to do this 6 times.
Pretty cool, huh?

If you wish to revert back to the old weapons that you loved and witnessed with your very own eyes, simply equip the original weapon back in your equipment menu.

The weapons that appear invisible are actually geth armaments that never had visible models or textures. You can use these weapons in combat, but they are a bit under powered, so it's better to just use actual weapons that do have visible textures and models.

My end result as a vanguard

It looks way more streamlined and aerodynamic, like a vanguard should.

Now you can finally go out and save the galaxy without having the burden of carrying weapons that you even don't know how to use.

Is there a way to do this by editing game files?

Yeah, it can be done. I'll update the guide with a how-to, when I can, that is.

Thanks, that's awesome. It sure is painful to watch an adept or engineer to run around armed to the teeth. Can this be done with squadmates?
