Introduction
This guide is based on a lot of research on various websites mixed with my own experience in the game. I've played 1100 hours in CS:GO and I've reached the rank of DMG. Keep in mind that even though you have a role in your team or group, you must not be too stubborn to play out of your role, depending on how the game plays out. Roles are flexible!

And remember that having a good Lurker or Playmaker is just as important as having a good Awp'er or Entry Fragger. No role is raised above another, except for the IGL, but we'll come to that later on.

These are the most commonly used roles in CS:GO, both amateurly and professionally.
IGL (In-Game-Leader)
The IGL or In-Game-Leader is, as the title says, the leader of the team. He calls the strats and gives relevant information to the other team members about what to do. The goal off the IGL is to make his team win the round and in the end, the game. IGL's might not perform as well as some other roles, because a lot of their focus goes towards reading the game and calling the strats that fits the situation. Having a good IGL is critical for moving up in the ranks.

Tips:
If you want to be an IGL, don't be afraid of taking charge. Some may take it as an insult if you take on the leader role, because they take it as an insult when someone acts as a "mommy" that tells them what to do. Ignore them! Keep going and support your team the best you can do.
Awp'er
The Awp'er is not a role that your team necessarily need, but it's a good idea to have one if you want to win the game. The AWP is a really powerful sniper that can kill an enemy in one shot if you hit them anywhere but their legs or feet. This role is very flexible, because one round your IGL might want you to stay back and stop the other team from rushing, while the next round he might want you to push a bit to peek and kill an enemy for a one man advantage. Having the one man advantage means that whatever team have it, have one more guy that the other team (Usually its the first pick, so the teams go down to 5v4).

Tips:
Even though you want to main the AWP, you will have to train with rifles and smg. If your team suffers economically, you won't have the money to buy an AWP, and therefor you will have to play with a rifle or an smg.
Entry Fragger
The Entry Fragger is the player who enters the bombsite first and if able, try to get first blood. The Entry Fragger needs good aim, fast reflexes, good crosshair placement and in general good map knowledge. The Entry Fragger also needs a lot of self-confidence, because he will always draw a lot fire upon himself - he is like a bullet-magnet.

Tips:
If you want to be a good Entry Fragger, knowing where the enemies will be is a bid advantage. Of course you wont know it every time, unless you use wallhack (not recommended - it tends to get you banned), but knowing the usual spots on the different maps is crucial in becoming a good Entry Fragger.
Lurker
The Lurker is the teams ninja-warrior. His job is to take a totally different route to the bombsite and kill all the enemies who stands in front of him, mostly looking the other direction. He needs to hide until his team has either taken the bombsite or played really aggressive towards it, so that when the enemies rotate, he can come from behind like the ninja he is.

Tips:
If you want to become a good Lurker, you need to focus on moving alone and not making any noise. If you get caught, you need to be able to get out of, for example, a 2v1 situation, because your team will be at another place on the map and therefor can't help you.
Playmaker
The Playmaker, or support, is the player who enters the bombsite right after the Entry Fragger and kills the enemies, that the Entry Fragger misses. Just like the Entry Fragger, is it crucial for a Playmaker to have a good map knowledge and crosshair placement. He needs to know the same spots as the Entry Fragger. The Playmaker is usually also the guy that carries the bomb.

Tips:
If you want to become a good Playmaker, you will have to train a lot with the Entry Fragger, so that you will work better together. Besides that you will have to train your crosshair placement, so that you can kill the enemies the Entry Fragger didn't get. If both of you miss the enemy, you have a big problem.
Postscript
Remember that knowing these roles aren't necessarily needed to play the game, and you can, without a problem, have just as fun without them, but if you want to climb the ladders and outperform the others, using roles is a really good idea. These roles are very flexible, which means that if, for example, the Awp'er dies, maybe the Playmaker will take over that role and the bomb will go to the IGL or something.

Thank you for taking your time to read this guide and i hope it will help you on your way to success.
Best of luck!
