"War affects everyone, even the survivors. And the memories of facing our best friends will live forever on in our minds."

A short summary: A BLU Scout scavenges Coldfront to finish a war he never knew would plot him against his best friend. As the time comes to face him, does he execute him or spare him? Totally no inspiration from Undertale. Totally not inspired.

This is my biggest project yet. I cannot thank my friends enough. With this, I owe a LOT of people.
Animators:
NfinET (me)

I also owe Stain a huge thanks for his animation, "Pressure". The concept was responsible for a good chunk of the idea generation process. He doesn't animate anymore, but check him out here: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheDarthredav

Furthermore, thanks to Gary Paulsen for writing "Soldier's Heart". Check his book out here: http://www.soldiersheart.net/

Last but not least, thanks to TryHardNinja for "Dark Winter", the music in the video. The song was originally made for Tom Clancy's The Division, but I used it here. Check out the song here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-FTMBZn0hg
TryHardNinja's channel below: https://www.youtube.com/user/TryHardNinja

I shortened the song to fit the requirements.

Thanks for watching. Subscribe for more.

Good luck to everyone else entering!

What I wanted to say:

Don't bother pointing out that it's some sort of "minecrafty" animation or so. We're not the best, so pointing that stuff out SPECIFICALLY would be nice. So far, we got the lighting message. We'll fix that.

Actually, that may be why the animation appears "G-Mod-y" to others. I'm still experimenting with lighting, so if you could point out any good SFM lighting tutorials, that would be nice."

@fis
Hmm, then to be more specific, the aspects of Winglet animation. Leaving out the storytelling and stuff. But even then, my plot could use some work too.

In any case, thanks for the support!

no because winglet doesn't give a shit about proper cinematography and storytelling

@fis Yeah, then I could imagine this to truly be "Winglet quality"

oh how much more glorious this could have been with higher camera lenses and proper lighting

@Scout360Pyro Yeah, I'm sure there's a lot to improve on. But I appreciate the feedback.

@The Necromancer
I think I know what you're trying to say, and I appreciate the notes.

As for the Soldier's death, he WILL be missed.
@Knusperfrosch

Yeah, Rallycore came up with the silhouettes. They really did add a lot to the story.

What Scout360Pyro said.
The animations are too wooden in many places, but the camera work is good. There is potential there. I really liked the scene with the black and white silhouettes, and the facial expressions were selling the story.
Pimp Skeletor Nov 15, 2016 @ 12:59pm
It's good but needs better composition. Take Pyro's Café for example, the identity of the Spy is confused for another, only at the end does it piece back together and reveal that he tortured the wrong spy.
But they made sure to state that the Pyro is against a specific and not any random spy. In this video, the enemy scout has as much importance as any other one regardless of his backstory with the protagonist. The flashback feels more like a Deus Ex Machina to save the Drama in this short without wasting too much effort.
But the Soldier Death is legitimately Tearjerking

Damn. The quality of the actual animation of this is... substandard, and yet the potential is there. I can clearly "see" the story and emotions you are trying to convey in each and every shot. You had a great grasp on what you wanted to do, your skills just couldn't keep up with your vision. Keep doing things like this man, you will definitely improve.

As it is this is still worth upvoting for the official judges to look over!

@Commander Bad

Wow, that's a lot of feedback. But enough for me to roll with.

I for one noticed how many people commented on the original video that it appeared "minecrafty" or "gmoddy". I would assume this was because of the lighting.

The storyline may be cliche for this, but I'm actually going to jump off of this and continue the trilogy. But I was going MORE for a crossroads kind of thing.

All in all, thanks for the feedback and support!

The story was alright. A little cliche and tightly fit, but that can be expected from the time frame that has to be worked with.

The animation was what I personally think you did best with, although it was choppy at some points. Lots of animators struggle with making things appear lifelike--you did very well at some moment, but things also looked rigid at others.

Work on your lighting and camera work (lighting especially). They're the tools that set apart real masters of film from the amateur filmmakers. You can give a story so much more depth if you get really into the composition of your shots. I can't stress this enough.

Overall, solid entry. Probably needed more time rendering, but I know the deadline is tough to meet. Keep going! I hope to see you guys produce more entries in the coming years. I'll be watching for you guys.
