Comprehensive Scrolls Guide

This guide details the locations of all the scrolls in the game, and provides a video guide for those who don't like to read! No muss no fuss!

Introduction

What are scrolls?

Scrolls are used to obtain skills, and to upgrade already existing ones. Obtaining these scrolls is a crucial element of gameplay, as some skills can help you out heavily!

Who made the video guides?

The video guides were made and uploaded to YouTube by 'Trophy- Germany'. He has a full playlist on the scroll locations, which you can go check out if you wish to. Alternatively, you could view one of his videos on a specific chapter at the bottom of each section. Go show his channel some love! Tell him I sent ya!

What does this guide aim to do?

This guide will go into depth over all the scroll locations, from Chapter 2- 12. (Excluding Chapter 1 and 13, as they don't have any scrolls in them.) Hopefully, this guide will help you out quite a bit!

Is there an easy shortcut that doesn't require a guide?

Yes! Simply follow the guide for Chapter 2 - 3, and you should have enough scrolls to upgrade Kurosu. (The bird you have as an ally to help you find where to go and such.) Why is this significant? The second upgrade allows it so that when you want to find where to go, it also reveals all scroll locations on your screen. Its really helpful if you can't be asked to spend your time on a guide.

Chapter 2

Scroll 1/4

This scroll is impossible to miss, as you encounter it within the first minute, and you have to obtain it to get a key skill to progress. Its sitting on the altar, waiting for you to grab it!

Scroll 2/4

Just as you reach the end of the graveyard full of Kaiho soldiers, go to the very end of the second last row, to the left. You will see a grave, with two dragon statues either side. The scroll is sitting in the middle of them.

Scroll 3/4

After some precarious shadow jumping across the ruins of some old pagodas, you will come to an area with some more Kaiho soldiers and a set of pathways twisting their way up a hill. Make your way to the top of the hill, and there will be two more soldiers up there. Sneak down the left side and you can snag the scroll on a table by a lamp.

Scroll 4/4

After the previous scroll, you will have to shadow jump across some stone pillars to come to a pathway. Upon heading down here you will get to the next chapter. Instead of doing this, walk down the pathway just a tad, and you will see an open cave. Turn right into it, and pick up the scroll on the chest.

Chapter 3

Scroll 1/6

When you start the chapter, you will come to a graveyard fairly soon. Sneak past the Kaiho soldier guarding the middle pathway and go down the left of said pathway. You will see the scroll propped up against a grave to your right.

Scroll 2/6

Once you get past the "mini graveyard" after the first graveyard, (Where you find the first scroll.) you will come into a bigger graveyard infested with soldiers. Once you have entered this area, go right and head up onto the overlook. (The area with two/three soldiers, it also has a ton of graves on it for cover.) Keep going right until you reach the end and look right. You will see a wooden plank. Use shadow creation and shadow jump up there. Head up to the small temple and you will see the scroll by the door. (If this doesn't make sense to you, don't worry. Simply view the video guide.)

Scroll 3/6

Head to the platforms beside the small stream/river next to where you have to go for the objective. Keep heading down the lower platform until you come to an opening, leading into a small house. Head inside and pick up the scroll ontop of the drawer.

Scroll 4/6

Once you have the talisman, head outside and continue straight down to a small bridge going over a stream. To the right side of the end of the bridge, you will see a scroll sitting there. Grab it and move on.

Scroll 5/6

Continue heading straight down, and through the passageway from scroll 4. You will come into a multipathway area. Turn to your left to see a scroll laying on the ground beside a small shrine.

Scroll 6/6

From the multipathway area mentioned in scroll 5, turn to your right and head up the path. There will be multiple enemies in the area you enter, but you can deal with them how you like. Head down this area to a shrine with a scroll proudly on display.

Chapter 4

Scroll 1/5

After disabling the wall of light, head down the pathway and shadow jump through the bamboo. Turn to your left to find a ruined house, and the scroll sitting on a small table.

Scroll 2/5

Make your way past the guards to the orb of light you have to destroy to get to the next area. Facing it, turn to your left to see a crate with the scroll sitting on top of it.

Scroll 3/5

Once you have obtained the next talisman in the cave, look around to see a hole in the rock. Shadow jump through the gap to find the scroll laying alone on the floor.

Scroll 4/5

After either murdering or ghosting your way past a ton of Kaiho soldiers, make your way to the log fort. Inside, on the first floor, head round the circle on your left to find the scroll on a chest.

Scroll 5/5

From the fort, exit via the back entrance. (Head round the circular layout of the first floor until you see a hole in the wall for you to sneak under.) Keep going to your left to find a house. To the right of the house, outside, the scroll will be on a crate waiting for it to be picked up.

Chapter 5

Scroll 1/6

Just before entering the pagoda, turn to your right to see a scroll on a shrine.

Scroll 2/6

After disabling the light orb, head out to the front of the pagoda. On a crate next to a boat, you will find the second scroll.

Scroll 3/6

This one can be a bit tricky to get to unless you understand where you have to go. (If you don't understand where to go, refer to the video guide.) From the second pagoda, where you have to go to disable the second light orb for an objective, go around to the left side and continue right to the end of the platform. Use shadow creation on the log and shadow jump onto it. Head to the end of the log and shadow jump up into the hole in the building. Drop down into the small room to see the next scroll on a chair.

Scroll 4/6

Continue on from the second pagoda up to the next objective, which is to drop down through a hole in the ground. Before you do this, go past it and up onto the shrine, where you will find your next scroll.

Scroll 5/6

Once you have been down the hole, and disabled the light orb, you will have to come to a boat to continue to the next area and to find the talisman. Instead of heading up to the talisman, shadow jump between the two small grassy islands, and onto another island connected to the rock on your right side. Use shadow creation on the ledge above you, and shadow jump up there to find another scroll.

Scroll 6/6

Retrieve the talisman and get past the soldiers, and you will end up on a dock. Take a few steps down it and turn right to see a house by the water. Shadow jump between the podiums above you to get to it, and behind the house the final scroll will be on a boat on the water.

Chapter 6

Scroll 1/6

Head past the first set of Kaiho soldiers and into the crypts. Once you just about reach the end, before turning right, turn left. The first scroll will be sitting on a table next to some bones in front of you.

Scroll 2/6

Turn around from scroll 1 and head to the next area. Go through the doorway, while trying not to be spotted by soldiers, and shadow jump up to the area above you. The scroll will be leaning against a rising sun statue.

Scroll 3/6

This one can be a bit tricky if you can't understand the directions I'm giving. (If you can't follow the instructions clearly, refer to the video guide.) Head to the fire element area, and head up to the top floor via the entrance next to the light orb you have to destroy. (Its the far back entrance, I like to call it the main entrance.) Head through the entrance of the little room you have now entered, and keep going right until you find another smaller room with a fire statue in it. Shadow jump inside to find the third scroll propped up against it. These instructions are easier to follow if you kill all the guards first, then retrace your steps.

Scroll 4/6

This one can also be a bit difficult to follow. (Once again, if you can't follow the steps, refer to the video guide.) Head to the water area, (Its marked by the blue symbol/colours) and keep going on the right hand side around the room until you see another room where a small water statue is on the right hand side. You will know if its the right one, because a scroll should be propped up behind it.

Scroll 5/6

Head to the wind area. (Its marked by the brown symbol/colours) Get past all the soldiers, or dispose of them, and shadow jump up to tall structure in the middle of the room. You will find the scroll leaning against one of the three pillars.

Scroll 6/6

Head to the air area. (Its marked out by the white symbol/colours) Head around the bottom of the room until you can see an area to sneak under. Upon doing so, you will see a passage leading under the tower in the middle of the room. The scroll will be sitting in the middle of this area, surrounded by three chamber tombs/graves.

Chapter 7

Scroll 1/6

This scroll is really easy to find, as its located right at the start of the chapter. Head behind the shrine in the middle of the starting area to find scroll number one.

Scroll 2/6

If you continue from the previous scroll, you will come to a small graveyard inhabited by enemies. In the middle of this graveyard, there is a rock next to a tree. Inbetween the two is the second scroll.

Scroll 3/6

Past the graveyard from the second scroll, you will come to a camp. Right at the very start of this camp is a small house. Head inside to find a jail door, and shadow jump through it to find a scroll sitting on a table in the cell.

Scroll 4/6

Once you are inside the city of Kyuryu, head to the building with the first light orb in it. On the first floor for this building the next scroll will be sitting happily on a table.

Scroll 5/6

From the building you have to go in to collect the previous scroll, head outside and to your left and head around behind the building. You will see another small house. Follow the path around to the entrance, shadow jump past the light trap, and pick up the next scroll sitting on a desk.

Scroll 6/6

Facing the exit to the area, turn left, and then right, and then right again, into a house containing the final scroll. You can find it laying ontop of a chest next to a lantern.

Chapter 8

Scroll 1/6

From the start of the chapter, turn right and head through the house that you'll encounter going that way. You will now see a soldier with a light trap orbiting him. Take him out and grab the scroll sitting on the bench behind him.

Scroll 2/6

Keep following the right hand side from the previous scroll, until you come to an entrance not far from a light orb you have to destory. Head through here to see a building with another light orb on its top floor. Ignore that for now, and head through the door to the bottom floor. By the statue of the wolf you can find the second scroll.

Scroll 3/6

Backtrack through the entrance you just went through, and look up to see a hole in the side of a house. Shadow jump up here and turn the corner to see the next scroll sitting on a crate next to a candle.

Scroll 4/6

Go back through the hole you entered in for the previous scroll, and follow the right hand side of the city streets to reach a house being guarded by a soldier and light traps. Shadow jump past him or eliminate him, and enter the house to find the next scroll sitting on a desk.

Scroll 5/6

Head to the complex housing a light orb, not far from where the previous scroll was. From here, head to the mini graveyard linked to the compound and go behind an engraved slab to find the next scroll.

Scroll 6/6

From the beginning, keep to the left hand side until you come to a house. Go through this house and into the street where you will see a path to a square of houses. Get past the guards, and head to the house directly opposite the one you came out of, to get to the next scroll. It will be on a drawer next to a basket.

Chapter 9

Scroll 1/1

This chapter is really easy for scroll collecting, as there is only one to find! Its in a really easy spot too, and its not difficult to reach. (As there are no guards to annoy you!) Right at the very start, turn left and into the ruins. Follow them through until you reach the back area. Shadow jump through, and then up. To find the first and final scroll of this chapter laying next to a crack in the wall.

Chapter 10

Scroll 1/6

From the start, head straight on, then turn right to find a gate. Shadow jump through that to see the scroll in a hole in the side of the wall. Shadow jump to the ledge above you, then down to the scroll.

Scroll 2/6

Once you have gotten past the set of gates being guarded by a Kaiho soldier, follow the left hand side to a dock. Shadow jump onto the boat, and right at the tip of the boat is the second scroll.

Scroll 3/6

Head to the next area. Take a right, turn left, then look up. There will be a hole in the wall. Shadow jump up there to find the next scroll on a drawer next to a bed.

Scroll 4/6

In the same area you found the previous scroll, facing the pagoda you have to infiltrate, turn right and head down to the docks. Then, turn right again, and head down to a gated off area, and shadow jump behind it. The scroll is laying on the floor there.

Scroll 5/6

Head behind the pagoda to find the next scroll sitting on a crate.

Scroll 6/6

Once you have disabled the light orb in the pagoda, head to the next area. Follow the right hand side to come to a building. Shadow jump past the light trap, get inside and disable the light orb. Then, teleport up onto the building where an archer was, and the light gate will now be gone. Head inside this now unlocked building to find a scroll sitting on a stool in front of a painting.

Chapter 11

Scroll 1/5

Head past the soldier standing inbetween the two lights, and take a right into wooden hut. The scroll is sitting on a drawer, waiting for you to pick it up and go on your way.

Scroll 2/5

Sneak your way through the enemy forest camp, sticking to the right side, and you will come to a ruined house. Shadow jump up onto the half-gone roof to find the next scroll.

Scroll 3/5

Once you reach the enemy fort, head inside. Right in the middle of the fort, on a crate inbetween two training dummies, is the next scroll.

Scroll 4/5

When you start to get near the pagoda, you will have two branching paths. Regardless of which one you choose, you can still get to this scroll easily. About halfway down each path, is a bridge linking up to the other path. In the middle of these two bridges, shadow jump to a little island next to a rock with a fish stand. The scroll is on the floor there.

Scroll 5/5

Head behind the pagoda you have to climb to get to the next talisman, and you will find the next scroll on the floor beside a shrine/signpost.

Chapter 12

Scroll 1/3

About halfway up the mountain, before the first checkpoint, look up to see a hole in the cliffside. Shadow jump up there to find the scroll sitting snug in a chest.

Scroll 2/3

Once you reach the first checkpoint, head to the tower where you are being targeted from. You can shadow jump into the bottom area, and then up onto a little lookout area if you would call it that, where the scroll is sitting on a crate next to a basket.

Scroll 3/3

Once you have obtained the previous scroll, shadow jump down from where you got it from and keep heading to the left. You will eventually reach a little hut where the scroll is sitting on a table.
