B17 G Bomber Plane

Description
This is a new updated version of a B17 Flying Fortress from WW2 that my 11 year old son and I built together.
We put a lot of work in and are very proud of it. We hope you enjoy it too.

This improved version uses a new flight control system I developed with my Harrier build to allow WASD flight controls without remapping. We used the new small pipe to improve all the gun barrels and added gun sound*. As we learned more about the real B17 we found we made several errors in our inital build. We had the B17 G chin turret but the radio operator gun was missing and the waist guns should have been glassed in. This was done in the real B17 to prevent freezing injuries. All this is now corrected in the new model.

It has working propellers, flaps, ailerons, elevator, rudder, landing gear (with locks to prevent collapse), turrets, bomb bay doors, and an authentic paint job my son carefully replicated from a real B17.

The first step to flying this model is to get in. Under the plane there is a switch that opens the bomb bay doors. Stepping into the bay allows you to see the back of the seats and take control. Pilot on the left, co-pilot to the right, and gunner to the rear. The next step is press C until your camera view is backed all the way off. This is a big girl and I wish the camera backed out even further. The next steps are to press 5 to start the "gravity compensation", Press 1 to start forward thrust, then pitch up to lift off. You'll figure it out from there.

Pilot Controls
W - Pitch Forward/Elevator
S - Pitch Back/Elevator
A - Roll Left/Aileron
D - Roll Right/Aileron
2 - Yaw Left/Rudder
3 - Yaw Right/Rudder
4 - Landing Gear toggle (be patient, the lock must disengage, then the gear, then lock re-engage)
5 - What I call "gravity compensation" (replaces the lift from the wings)
1 - Propulsion thrusters
6 - Bomb bay doors

Co-Pilot Controls
1 - Engine 1 Toggle
2 - Engine 2 Toggle
3 - Engine 3 Toggle
4 - Engine 4 Toggle
5 - Flaps
6 - Bomb Bay doors

Gunner controls
1 - Ball Turret rotate left
2 - Ball turret rotate right
3 - Ball turret guns up
4 - Ball turret guns down
5 - Top turret rotate left
6 - Top turret rotate right
7 - Top turret guns up
8 - Top turret guns down
9 - Fire Guns*

*For the gun sound, all credit goes to
Ragbac for his/her WW1 plane. It is a great flyer and I got the whole idea for gun sounds from it. I did add my own flair with two audio units and a timer to offset the shots slightly.

Despite the massive difference between yours and my control systems, I found this an absolute pleasure to fly! And what a beauty it is too!

stuChris, I am working on a P51 Mustang with my son right now but I had thought of doing a B29. I will shoot you a friend request and we can look at the B29 when the P51 is done, which shouldn't take long. The thing is built and in flight tuning now, though that can be pretty challenging.

A lot of thought went into the controls, so can I ask what didn't work for you?
