Introduction and needed tools (Gmod)
Hi everyone! This time I want show how to make McClaire with alternative hairstyle. At the first time this might be very long process especially if you haven’t used these tools before but believe me; First time is the hardest and alternative McClaire is coming much easier every single time when you are posing her.

Absolutely needed tools:

Optional tools:
Using submaterial tool and invisible texture (Gmod)

So you need White Heart’s and Nepgear’s ragdolls. Next step you need to use submaterial tool and select invisible texture.

White Heart: Change every single part’s texture to invisible expect hair and <none> (This is global texture. If you are going to use custom texture in this selection, the whole ragdoll's texture is going to change).

Nepgear: In this case you need change only hair to invisible.

There it is. White Heart has still shadow so you need Toggle Shadow -tool to turn off shadow. I don’t know is there any way lock down White Heart to Nepgear but currently only way is put hair with physics gun (and Ragdoll Mover) to correct place.
Hair placement (Gmod)
Make the pose at first without hair. If you going to fix pose later, that might be tough because of White Heart’s ragdoll.

Because you need put 2 ragdolls together you need turn collides off from White Heart. You can do that with No collide -tool. But with submaterial tool you can select "Disable Collosions" (and no gravity option if you need that). You can open menu with C + right click to White Heart’s ragdoll.

No gravity + physics gun hair placement:
Pros:
+ Very easy to place if you are not going to use Ragdoll mover.
Cons:
- White Heart’s ragdoll is floating everywhere!
- Not guaranteed to get the best possible placement

(Advanced) Ragdoll Mover:
Ragdoll mover gives body’s name which you can move. But you can actually just press mouse to wanted part what you are going to move.

Here is example for a weird case: tool shows up Nepgear’s head but if you just click to White Heart’s head, you will get White Heart’s head to move.

There is two options

This one gives you can move head.

This one forces head to stay so you can move position of hair.

Pros:
+ You get hair to place where you want that exactly.
Cons:
- You might missclick to another bone/part of body so you have to find White Heart's head again.
- Using Ragdoll mover needs some practice.
Lightning and some advices (Gmod)
When you have done with posing and you might use some lamps, there can be some weird shadows (not always!) in McClaire’s face.

Usually I have fixed this problem with next command:
r_projectedtexture_filter 100 (In some case you have to change number)
This will remove shadows but it will make new (pixel) shadows to enviroment. In that case you need change lamp’s distance to get focus to only McClaire.

There it is! McClaire with alternative hairstyle. (You can see, shadow has still long hair so that might be a little tricky in some cases.)

Advices:
  • Nepgear’s forehead is huge so you need some time to place hair to correct place. Usually I left hair a position where camera can see just a little bit White Heart’s own forehead.
  • (Advanced) I recommend to use duplicator for White Heart. Then you are going to safe some time (in this case you don’t need make body invisible and toggle shadows off every single time).

If you have still some problems, please left a comment to comment section and I try answer as soon as I can.
Making invisible body parts (SFM)
There is actually a way to make alternative McClaire in SFM. Thanks Venthur for help me getting started.

Making bodyparts as invsible

Let's start process with hiding Nepgear's hair.

1. For SFM you need to use override material. Activating override material you need right click Nepgear's animationset -> Add Override materials.

2. Editing model you need select model's Element Viewer. Right click -> Show in Element Viewer -> Model.

3. Now we need select body part what you want make invisible. In this case we are going to hide hair3 body part. So you need select materials -> hair3 -> right click -> Add attribute -> Float

4. Now we need give attribute's name. This case we are going to use $alpha -command. $aplha will be set to 0 already what makes body part as invisible.

Then change Nepgear's skin to 30 (or 31, depending of your scene) with right click -> set skin. Now you can see that Nepgear's hair has been disappeared.

(There is still original Nepgear's accessory. You need remove that with right click Nepgear's animationset -> Set body groups -> accessory -> NepgearSkel.)

Making White Heart's body as invisible you need repeat 1-4 but insted hair3 you need hide face and body. You can hide more body parts but I have noticed that hiding those parts you are fine. After making invisible bodyparts White Heart should be look like this:

Now you can pose Nepgear and place White heart to correct place later. It might took awhile for first time but second time will be easier when you know right placement.
Extras (SFM)
Weapon, AD aka Arm Device (originally Short Circuit)
Correct McClaire's weapon color:
You can find McClaire's weapon using tag: dex_arm. To change color you need color tool addon.
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=216446685

With that addon you can choose color right clicking weapon's animationset -> Rig -> setup_modelcoloring_theta_physide.

Then you choose custom color and pick light blue from nethermost right side.

Also I reduce AD's size using right click animationset -> Utilities -> Add scale control to Models. Now you shold get option: rootTransform_scale. Usually I set that to 0.066.

Shadows and lightning

Shadows are the problem also in SFM.

The best avoid lightning problem is using own light for McClaire and right clicking light's animationset -> Disable Shadows.

Posing tips:

  • Because there are two pairs of ears (and eyes) you gonna have a little bit problems. The biggest problem is left side because there you can see cleary two ears. I recommend to avoid took a shot from McClaire's left side. Otherwise front, and right side should be fine.
  • There is also a way to lock down White Heart's hair to Nepgear's body. Right now I don't know how to do that but I will make update when I know that.

Here is my finished SFM tutorial pose:

Also I haven't created any of those tools what I have used.

The way I've found to attach White Heart's hair to McClaire is to just open McClaire's animationset and open body, then drag "head" down to White Heart's "head" then repeat for all spine00, spine01, spine02, root, and roottransform.

Now you can move Claire around with her hair all you want and pose her in most if not all kinds of position with little to no restraint.
