Recurve on a bow doesn't reduce its draw weight, it increases the LENGTH of the draw, allowing a shorter bow to have a longer draw. It also makes the transfer of energy on release more efficient. Medieval longbows were sometimes given a slight reflex curve with pressure treating, this was called "whipping" the bow by medieval bowyers.

Regardless ,there are people who shoot accurate reproduction medieval longbows with draw weights in excess of 100 pounds, if I could, I'd link videos of people doing it. Its not magic.

@ryan; The famed Longbows of medieval England actually probably had draw weights ranging from 100 to 150 pounds. Historically the term "longbow" referred to any bow that wasn't a crossbow. What we call "longbows" in modern times were actually called "Warbows" by the medieval English.

I can tell you that there are people in the modern world who can shoot the bows the medieval longbowmen shot. Historically they shot bow with a draw of around 60-80 lbs. This means that many modern traditional (those that don't use compound bows) archers (myself included) can shoot the same bows that were shot by the Welsh and English archers.

Oh and also no-one in the modern world would be able to draw-back a proper Welsh-Longbow as ppl dont have the strenght for it.

CAn i just say that a Warbow is a longbow,but as longbow were only used by Walse and England the rest of britain and all of Europe called them warbows as they used crossbows for war and Bows for hunting. And to try and help the recurve arguments i've seen,the recuvre was there so that a bow could deliver the force of a high draw-weight but with less of a actual draw-weight(and they were mainly used by light caverlry as they were easier to use from horseback.

@RayeGunn

No, the draw weight IS the power of the bow. The only thing recurve allowed was a smaller bow for the same draw weight.

A Warbow IS a Longbow...

No, longbows were not the most damaging, unless you mean the warbow. A warbow can be 110 pounds to pull back, and is very powerfull. So just a suggestion, make a whole new weapon with good stats (make it slow to draw back) and name it the warbow
