Guide to finding all the Clothing Sets

A thorough guide to find all the clothing sets in Ghost of a Tale (with screenshots & map).

Introduction

This is a little guide to help people find specific pieces of sets they may have problems finding. This guide provides screenshots & map images to help locate all the pieces. Should there be anything I've missed or any misunderstod/missing information regarding set effects - feel free to notify me so I can correct it.

The Pirate Set

The first set you encounter in this game is the Pirate Set worn by Captain Otto Powderkeg.

Pirate's Baldric with silver buckle
This piece is inside a cupboard in the room on the left side, just before the drawbridge. (The imprisoned rat guard's jail cell is opposite to this room.) The key for the cupboard can be found in the same room.

Pirate's belt
Throw a stick on the lever of the drawbridge to lower it. Walk over the drawbridge and turn left - the pirate's belt is inside the chest.

Pirate hat & pirate eyepatch
You can find the pirate hat and pirate eyepatch on a rat's skeleton, presumably Captain Otto Powderkeg's skeleton. His cell is behind the frog's room, just walk around it. The master key to open his cell can be found in the room where you find the jail map on the table, just before you exit the prison area.

Pirate boots
The pirate's boots are easily missed. They're in the courtyard, walk to the left of the smithy and you'll see an entrance. Enter it and instead of going up the L-shaped staircase, look to the left side and you'll see a ladder leading down. The chest contains the pirate boots and can be opened with the Sewer Key (the key can be found in a drawer in the same place you find the master key & jail map).

Known effects: extra dialogue options with the Pirate Frog (some neccessary for quests). The blacksmith refuses to speak to you while you wear this. Increases your health.

The Ranger Set

"The Red Ranger is the last of his order, a master of tracking and combat, sworn to protect the lowly, and the weak. Little is known of the ranger's true identity.."

Ranger tunic & ranger mask
To find these you must access the Sewers. The entrance to the sewers is on the right side of the cell you originally start in. You need a source of light to interact with the door and you need the Sewer Key that you can grab in the room with the master key & jail map just before exiting the jail. Walk down (avoiding the bear traps) and you'll see a big area. Walk to the right and you'll enter a room with a chest in it, the chest contains the Ranger's tunic & Ranger's mask. If you walk out of the room and go to the right up the stairs, you can grab the sewer map.

Ranger's hood
After grabbing the Pirate's boots, go back up the ladder and walk the stairs up. Turn left and you'll see a long hallway with a rat guarding a door and a chest next to the rat guard. The guard has a key on his waist, your safest bet is to throw a bottle at his face to knock him out and grab the key. The key opens the chest that contains the Ranger's hood.

Ranger's boots
After grabbing the hood, walk forward through the whole hallway and turn left. Walk up the stairs and you'll see a big room with a fireplace and dinning table. The Ranger's boots are by the fireplace.

Ranger's belt
After grabbing the hood, walk forward through the whole hallway but instead of turning left, turn right. (beware, there's a guard patrolling the narrow tunnel.) Go through the tunnel and you'll see a staircase to the left leading down. There you'll see a small carrot field and a scarecrow carrying the Ranger's belt. Along with the belt you'll also find the pumpkin hat and Thief's hat.

Known effects: Increases your health. (Haven't seen any other effects with the set, correct me if I'm wrong.)

The Thief Set

"Tulong is considered by many (including his peers, and his own self) to be the greatest thief alive. Capricious and whimsical is at once a hero and a villan to those he steals from..."

Thief's boots
You'll find the Thief's boots pretty early on in the Jail, they're next to the fireplace by the drawbridge.

Thief's hat
After grabbing the Ranger's hood, walk forward through the whole hallway but instead of turning left, turn right. (beware, there's a guard patrolling the narrow tunnel.) Go through the tunnel and you'll see a staircase to the left leading down. There you'll see a small carrot field and a scarecrow carrying the Thief's hat. Along with the hat you'll also find the pumpkin hat and Ranger's belt.

Thief's belt
The Thief's belt is in the same room with the fireplace where you find the Ranger's boots. Look for an armor stand, the chest is right there in a corner. The chest's key can be located on top of the cupboard next to the staircase leading further up.

Thief's tunic & mask
As you enter the courtyard from the jail, take the curved staircase that's ahead of you on the right side and walk up to it. You'll find a chest in a narrow tunnel which contains both of these items.

Known effects: unlocks new dialogue with the Blacksmith and Gustos & Fatale (neccessary for some quests). Increases your health.

The Guard's Armour Set

"A suit of armour, made of iron plate, and issued as standard to all members of the Rat Guard."

Guard's faulds
You can find these near the fireplace of the blacksmith in the Courtyard. They're hard to miss.

Guard's sallet (face covered)
The guard's sallet is on top of a barrel in a hole under the staircase straight ahead in the Courtyard. The sallet can be grabbed mid-air by jumping near the barrel. Alternatively you can use a stool from the blacksmith's area as support.

Guard's greaves
You'll see an iron gate under the right curved staircase in the Courtyard. Open it and walk down the stairs, the greaves are down there.

Guard's chestplate & helmet (face not covered)
The chestplate and the helmet can be found in the same room with the fireplace in which you find the Ranger's boots & Thief's belt. The chestplate and helmet are on an armor stand next to the chest with the Thief's belt - hard to miss.

Known effects: greatly limits your movement speed and you cannot jump. Disguises you as a guard and you can interact with the other guards. Increases your health.

The Plague Doctor Set (not complete yet)

The Plague Doctor mask and hat can be found in the sewers, in the secret room inhabited by Distiller Faustus Rott. They're both inside a cupboard - you need to grab a stool to reach it.
(Wearing the mask limits your view but it reduces the damage you take from poison clouds!)

I'm not sure if there even is a full set of it since I haven't been able to find more pieces of it. It may just be these two, or the full set will be available in the final game. (Need confirmation!)

Out of date again? I have 5 pieces of the Pirate Set - The rope belt, the boots, the hat, the eye patch and the baldric. The quest still says I don't have the full set yet, also says the frog. I'm kinda confused and worried if it's another bug...

To find the sewer key you need to first find Silas and start the quest for the apothecary stuff. When coming down from Silas, you pass through what looks like a dinner hall, just 1 table and 1 rat that stares at the fireplace and then walks up stairs. Keep going downstairs, but shortly after that room there will be a rat on the left side that is walking along the top of the wall - "ramparts" , the undulating square tops of the walls. That rat will now have a cipher message on his belt, so you grab it, and it mentions the frog has the key.. the frog is back in the jail at the beginning. Go to him.

thiefs tunic is not in same cest as the mask, i have the mask but not tunic...or i was stupid and didnt take both lol.

I found the ranger's chest piece in the indicated chest, but it didn't have the ranger mask. Perhaps it has moved since release? :o
