July 23, 2016: Guide fully finished. Enjoy the game!

Welcome to my Dark Fear walkthrough and achievement guide.

This is NOT a spoiler-free guide. You are given step-by-step directions on what to do, including any combinations, puzzles and other answers you will need to proceed.

I've broken up the walkthrough into several parts. These are not separated by chapters or anything in the game, I've just split them myself to avoid having one extremely long section.

As always, try to figure things out on your own beforehand. If you're going for a perfect score, I have stated what your score should be at various points in the game so you can follow along, without necessarily having to follow the guide.

THIS PART IS OPTIONAL. You will eventually need the upgraded weapon and armor, so you may as well go hunting and get that done with. You DO NOT need to do this now, but you're here, so why not? Hunt enough to get the money for the weapon, as well as money and pelts for the armor. While you're here, do some fishing until you catch a crawfish for an achievement, then continue. If you don't feel like doing any of this right now, that's fine; come back whenever you want.
Achievement Unlocked!: Pond Fisherman
Click the map, then go back to the plantation.

Inside Plantation
Drag the key onto the grandfather clock.

Once in the desert, save your game, as a missable achievement is coming up. Click the top arrow, then click the hole in the ground. Click the creature that comes out. Kill it. You need to get all perfect hits to get an achievement.

Your next armor upgrade will require three horned lizard pelts, which you can now get from hunting in the desert. For fighting Mr. Barlow, you'll want to use the Malachite Bolts whenever the SPECIAL option lights up. You'll need to attack him several times like normal first. With the max armor you can have for now, he'll hit for 70. Copper bolts will hit him for 90 if it's a direct hit. When the special option is available, select the Malachite bolt. A direct hit will cause 500 damage. You'll get 500 gold when he dies.
Achievement Unlocked!: The Last of the Barlows
Open your inventory and read the diary.
Go back inside the house.

Click the top arrow, then the left, then the top.
Click on the loose bricks, then enter the hole.
Achievement Unlocked!: Secrets in the Walls
Take the glass jar, leave the house, and return to town.

The Town and Forest
Talk to Gunter.
Achievement Unlocked!: Giving Closure
Don't go to his house yet. You'll be coming up to a big boss fight soon, so go hunt until you can buy level three and four of the leather armor. You'll need 1280 gold, and one each of: rabbit, badger, kingsnake, bobcat, cobra, boar and jaguar. You'll also want to buy a few Cobalt bolts from Olaf at 9 gold each. Seema will also now have the Super Health potion, which heals 450. If you've been lucky with Defend rolls, you can take your chances.
Once you're stocked up, go to Gunter's house.
Click on the square that's inside the fireplace. It's not a sliding puzzle, don't worry, hate those things. Rotate the tiles to form a lion's head. You'll get an amulet.
Save your game, leave Gunter's house, click the map, go to the question mark on the left.
Fight the forest devil.
He hits for you 190 with max armor. A direct hit with a Cobalt bolt hits him for 140. Don't use your malachite bolts when the special lights up; a direct hit only causes 50 damage. As he has 950 damage, you'll want at least seven Cobalt bolts, assuming you'll have a direct hit each time. Kill him.
Achievement Unlocked!: Devil in the Trees
Return to Seema at the town and ask her about the flowers.
Click the map and you'll see new question marks. In the cluster of three at the top right, click the one in the middle.

Walkthrough: Part Four
Firefly Cave
Use the ice crystals on the lava to harden it.
If you're low on health, either use a potion, wait for it to refill, or go to the tree of life before entering the cave.
A fire demon will attack you. He has 820 health and hits for 180. Your Cobalt bolts will hit for 140 with a direct hit. You'll need six direct hits to kill him. Kill him.
Use the honey on the fireflies above you, then use the glass jar on the fireflies.
Achievement Unlocked!: Entomologist
Click the bottom arrow, click the map, return to the Ice Palace.
Click the top arrow, drag the fireflies onto the Ice Queen.
Click the bottom arrow.
Click on one of the following beds.
Re-read the diary if you want to find what to take. Otherwise, just take the following: 2 S. Gilia, 1 W. Iris, 2 B. Heart, 3 M. Lily, 4 G. Lily.
Achievement Unlocked!: Florist
Return to town and go to Olaf.
If you're consistent with direct hits, buy three R. Quartz bolts at 85 gold each. Buy several Steel bolts at 17 gold each. Buy a couple of health potions if you need to. Go to Seema and buy the silencing tattoo for 240 gold. Equip your steel bolts, heal up if necessary, and save your game.
YOUR SCORE: 321/410.
SAVE PERCENTAGE: 78%
Click the map, and go to the question mark to the left of the ice palace.

Cemetery
Click through the dialogue with the woman and the banshee attacks. She has 3500 health. A direct hit with the steel bolts deals 250 damage. She hits you for 235. A direct hit with the R. Quartz when your special is ready deals 1282 damage. If your attacks are always direct, you should kill her in six attacks: two standard > special > two standard > special. You should be left with 280 health if you don't miss (and she doesn't either). Kill her and you can then hunt.
Hunt until you have one raven and three crows, then head to the other hunting spots to gather one badger, one cobra and one jaguar, then return to town and buy the Crow armor for 710 gold from Ivan. If you caught a vampire bat in addition to the ravens and crows, and you've captured at least one of everything else, you'll get an achievement.
Achievement Unlocked!: Master Hunter
Return to the cemetery, click the top arrow, and drag the flowers from your inventory onto the grave.
Click the bottom arrow, click the map, and go to the last remaining question mark.

Cave
Click on the woman.
Achievement Unlocked!: Seek Out the Truth
After the dialogue, click on her again. Exhaust all your options.
Click the map and return to town.
Talk to Seema and buy the electricity tattoo for 90 gold.
Talk to Olaf and buy three Onyx bolts.
Click on the map and head to the new question mark.
You'll need to fight a crab. He has 5000 health. Use steel bolts to hit him for 250, two times. Use an onyx bolt when available to hit him for 1938 (direct). Repeat the process until it's dead.
Click on the wolfsbane.
While you're here, fish. Catch one of each of the four fish (bass, eel, pike, catfish). Assuming you've caught every other fish, catching one of each will give you another achievement.
Achievement Unlocked!: Master Fisherman
Return to the cave and give the woman the wolfsbane.
Return to town.
Go to Seema and buy the psionic tattoo for 180 gold.
Go to Olaf and make sure you have three Onyx bolts. Buy five Silver bolts.
Click on the map twice, then go to the new question mark.

Crypt
WARNING: Kill the Guardian will all direct hits for an achievement. I did not do this and I saved my game, so I screwed myself out of this achievement because I frankly don't care to play through the game again. So, if you do anything less than a direct hit, reload your save!
You'll fight a cyclops. He has 7000 health and hits for 275. Your steel bolts will do 250 as a direct hit, and Onyx will do 2875. Steel > Steel > Onyx will cause 3375. Do this two sequence two times, then finish him off.
Once he's dead, return to the tree of life to refill your health.
Return to town and buy five Moonstone bolts from Olaf.
Buy the enemy health regeneration tattoo from Seema for 120 gold.
Return to the crypt, save your game, and click the top arrow.
WARNING: Make sure to kill the werewolf with all 100% hits for the Lycan Hunter achievement.
The werewolf has 16,200 health. Your silver bolts will hit for 600 as a direct attack, and Moonstone will hit for 4000 as a direct attack. He'll only hit you for 200. With crow armor, he'll need to hit you ten times. Repeat the Silver > Silver > Moonstone until he's dead.
Click the bottom arrow, then the map, and return to the cave.
Talk to the woman.
Go hunting and collect: one badger, one cobra, one jaguar, one vampire bat, then go to Ivan and buy the final armor piece for 1500 gold.
Go to Seema and buy the tattoo against dark magic for 320 gold.
Go to Olaf and buy several Gold bolts.
Open your map and go to the new question mark.

Summoning Stone
Click on the rock at the bottom left.
Let's number the amulets at the top 1 to 5, from left to right. And we'll assign a letter to the locations at the bottom, starting from the top left one, going clockwise, A to E.
Drag 2 to A, 1 to D, 4 to B, 5 to E, 3 to C.
Click on the horn that appears.

STOP. HAMMAH TIME. No not really. But as soon as you kill the next enemy, the game ends, so now would be the best time to go collect the remaining optional achievements. See the Optional Achievements section for what these are. Okay, continue!

The boss has 36,200 health and hits for 430 against dark armor. Your gold bolts will hit for 1200 with a direct hit, and the Bloodstone will hit for 5600 as a direct hit. Keep doing Gold > Gold > Bloodstone until he's dead.
Achievement Unlocked!: A Titan Falls
Talk to the woman. Once the scene ends, you'll get another achievement.
Achievement Unlocked!: I Know You
If you completed all the optional achievements, you'll get one final one.
Achievement Unlocked!: Completionist
Optional Achievements
One of the achievements is to complete the game while earning all achievements and a perfect score of 410. It's rather easy to do that, just make sure you complete these missable achievements. I missed out on one and saved my game afterwards, at 81%, which basically stopped me from getting a perfect completion. It's fine, I'm not bitter (right...), as I'm not an achievement hunter, so you! You. Learn from my mistake.

Cat Hunter
Collect three Jaguar pelts. They do not need to be all in the same window, you can do it over multiple hunting trips. Just make sure you have three on you at once, meaning don't sell two of them beforehand.

Blood Suckers
Collect three Vampire Bats. Same as above.

Master Hunter
Collect one of each animal. You should get this during normal play, as every armor upgrade requires a new animal.

Master Fisherman
Collect one of each fish. Don't forget to fish in the pond for the shrimp and crawfish, as neither of these are necessary for anything in-game, so you may miss it.

Hellborn
Defeat the guardian with all 100% attacks. This is the one I screwed up that I saved immediately after. Save your game prior to fighting him, and reload if you get anything less than direct hits.

Lycan Hunter
Defeat the werewolf with all 100% attacks. Same as above.

Rare Fish
Collect two Salmon and two Eels.

Thanks for the guide :)
I managed to unlock every achievement with it without any issue.

However, there were four minor mistakes I noticed during my playthrough:
- YOUR SCORE: 48/410 >> My score was 50/410 at this point.
- YOUR SCORE: 121/410 >> My score was 118/410 at this point. The scores were correct the remainder of the guide.
- "Go to Olaf and make sure you have three Onyx bolts. Buy five Silver bolts." should be "Buy five steel bolts" for fighting against the cyclops.
- And already mentioned below, it's not the cyclops you must defeat perfectly, it's the final boss for the "Hellborn" achievement.

You forgot to mention the 100% hit achievement against the crabworm
deathx88 Feb 20, 2017 @ 1:05am
Why didn't you mention the crabworm achivement?!? You have to land all direct hits. That seems pretty important to mention.
Liquidsnakehpks-joa Sep 4, 2016 @ 9:05pm
Also another typo you are suppose to use silver bolts on the wolf at end for 600 dmg not steel
Liquidsnakehpks-joa Sep 4, 2016 @ 3:21am
You should seriously edit in the walkthrough saying you need to kill the worm with perfect strikes :X for the achievements , missed it out and i need to restart again
Hyo Aug 20, 2016 @ 11:34am
Hi! Great guide, but there is a big mistake: the Guardian that you must kill for the "Hellborn" achievement is the final boss (whose name is, by the the way, "Guardian"), and not the Cyclop. In the end you didn't screwed your playthrough, maybe you're always in time... ;-)
NoelDeirrow Jul 31, 2016 @ 1:04pm
Also, it's strange but I only got 118 by doing exactly everything said in Part One. So apparently it's either a mistake or some action/actions giving you 3 points weren't mentioned there.
CreepyCanuck  [author] Jul 31, 2016 @ 12:55pm
The Master series you just need to capture, and the game will remember. As long as you've caught one of whichever, it'll be recorded.

As for your other comment, I might go back and do that, but likely won't be for a bit. Too many other games to play!
NoelDeirrow Jul 31, 2016 @ 12:49pm
By the way, for Master Hunter, Master Fisherman and Rare Fish, do you have to keep all of the stuff in your inventory at the same time like with Cat Hunter or Blood Suckers or game just tracks the fact that you caught those?
NoelDeirrow Jul 31, 2016 @ 12:48pm
Great guide, thank you! Still, I'd recommend adding some notes like mentioning where people should save or, for example, that it's recommended to buy three healing potions before you fight with Emily as it's pretty much impossible to defeat her without drinking all of them. Some could have not expected the hard battle since there is no such mention in the steps. Either way, really appreciate all the hard work you put into this.
