How to NOT suck as the monster
By You're Friend
Ok, so you want to play as the monster, but you keep getting destroyed by other players, even if you call yourself an experienced Evolve veteran. That is alright, this game is an entirely different beast, but I am here to revive your chances. You too can learn how to casually complain that monsters are OP.

I heard you wanted to win games...
First thing's first: Get used to the fact that the hunters WILL find you, and they WILL trap you, several times in a match. Now, some players are gods among mortals with the monster already and can avoid being domed until stage 3, but if you were that monstrously good you would not be here looking for help. Its ok, I will give you a moment to catch your breath and accept this revelation. But in reality, you are not trapped in the dome with them, they are trapped in the dome with you.

1. NO engagement with the hunters should be a suprise. Smell constantly, and be aware of your surroundings. Take your time.

2. EVERY engagement with the hunters should involve you lying in wait, then ambushing the hunters. There is never an excuse to not be doing this, if you are paying attention and smelling you will always have enough warning to set up an ambush when you know you would normally get trapped anyways (and like I said, you WILL get caught so accept it, let it happen, and make the hunters regret it).

3. The goal of most engagements should not be to win, but to down hunters so that later the dropship timer will be longer and hunters will have less health. At least until you see the perfect opportunity. Then murder them all.

4. Since you are ambushing, you get to choose the terrain that you will fight in. Choose terrian that has a nice circular pillar in the middle of it (every map has them) that you can use to block the line of sight of hunters when you need to (hunters need line of sight in order to accomplish anything). Some examples of acceptable terrain, good terrain, and fantastic terrain follow in screenshots. The first is just standard pillar. The second is good because it has a nice elevation difference (easier to block line of sight and separate hunters). The third is fantastic because it has your friend the pillar, elevation changes, a hazard for hunters (the blitz leopards nearby), and it is close to where the hunters spawn in so they reach you quickly.

5. The hunter team is only as strong as their weakest player. Circle around the hunters, and attack the player in the rear (they will always be the worst player on the team). You can often kill them before the rest of the team even responds. And in a 1v3 even with no armor you will win. If only 1 or 2 hunters actually walk into your ambush (because the team split up), laugh as you win the game. Be patient with your ambush as well, continually circle your best friend the pillar, intentionally scare birds, make noise, etc etc in order to get over eager hunters to separate from the pack. Poor Daisy is the weakest link this time.

In this example, I sneak around the pillar until the hunters split up and go in different directions around the pillar in order to "catch" me.

6. Stop worrying about evolving. Evolving really does not get you much and it is not very important, and if you could not win at stage one then 90% of the time you could not win at any stage. Fighting the hunters will slowly fill up your evolution bar and you will have plenty of time to eat in between fights (a successful ambush will give you a TON of time afterwards to do whatever you want in peace and quiet). Fighting pauses the game timer. Hunters are at their weakest at the start of the game (they are disorganized and don't yet know how to play together). But of course, be aware, out of the drop the Hunters have like 20 seconds of shielding or so (the lazy dev's answer to aggressive monsters), but taking out the hunters early is still easy, just wait a few seconds now.

7. Perks: Evolved Claw and Mutated Claw. Take them both they stack. Do whatever the hell you want with the other perk, because those two perks are broken in your favor. Why those DOT poison perks? Well: They do a ton of damage, easily doubling a monster's normal melee damage output. They prevent all native health regen from hunter perks. They will keep killing players even when you miss an attack, so even experienced players that jetpack dodge suddenly become easy to kill. And as an added bonus, if Lazarus pops invisibility the DOT will make him visible. Note: Because of those perks, it is often better to NOT pounce an enemy as the pounce will not apply the poison damage. Usually it will be better to just attack the hunters normally.

Everything else you can figure out easily enough (target the support or medic first (unless it is Rogue Val, ignore her), once the assault pops his shield move on to a different target, trapper is the lowest priority target, if you are Still having trouble then Wraith's Decoy ability is OP as all get out with this tactic, etc etc). Obviously what I have described here does not apply to monsters that never go into melee like Gorgon and to a lesser extent Kraken. And remember, don't be afraid to fight the puny hunters. You are a mythical killing machine. Own it.

i've killed rogue val many times easy, the big problem medics to take down are paldin parnell and slim, because of their op heal burst regen. I always have a problem with them, but never a rogue val

playing monster is a highway to geting matched with psycho venterns who have 4k hours each

playing hunter is all about carrying the team since all your teram mates will be level 0 scrubs who never even finished the training missions

I have not updated this in a while and have no plans on doing so in the near future, so take this guide with a grain of salt. That said, most of this stuff should hold true for a long time unless Turtle Rock makes some crazy development decisions.
