In this Guide I will talk about the strength and weaknesses of the FAMAS.

General Facts

The Name

Even though it is called the "Fusil d’Assaut de la Manufacture nationale d’armes de St-Etienne" ( which means something like "Assault Rifle of the national arms factory of St- Etienne") most people refer to it as the "FAMAS" or by its nickname "Clairon". It got this specific name because it kind of looks like the french Clairon trumpet.

Design and specials

The FAMAS has a Bullpup design, which, simply said, means it´s magazine is on its shoulder rest, much like the AUG. This makes the gun much smaller and great vor CQB. Sadly it is an ergonomic hell. You can´t reload the gun that easily when it´s magazine is on the very end. Also you can´t make the gun stay in it´s main emphasis because of it´s build, which leads to low accuracity.
The gun also has a handle with a build-in sight that I mentioned before.

Age and usage

The FAMAS is used in multiple police and military units all around france and europe. Famous units that use this gun are, of course, the GIGN and the légion étrangère, aka foreign legion. It is used since 1975, which makes it a bit old.

As you can see, the hipfire accuracity is terrible. I would never, ever recommend shooting in hipfire at all, as this weapon does terribly in it.

Downsights

The aimed recoil is a bit better. It goes straight up the wall, all shots got a clear pattern. Because of it´s high rate of fire, the shots kind of "stick" together pretty close.

Pro´s and Con´s

Pros

• High rate of fire, if in a clear line of sight and not to far away, can completely destroy targets.
  
• Good mag size
  
• 3 fire modes
  
• Good modding pool
  
• Good for surpressive fire, when enough teammate are alive
  
• Got good skins

Cons

• Bad accuracity and stability, when unmodded
  
• Hard to take out long-range enemys
  
• Burns through the ammo pretty fast
  
• Hard to use with ACOG
  
• Very small and ugly Iron Sights

Tips

Usage

• I would recommend using this gun in CQB only, as it is just not made for long range kills. When shooting in windows, while rappeling or standing in hallways you got the upper hand.
  
  
• Use the burst fire mode. Spamming those 241 shots in full auto is only a waste of ammo. the gun controls itself way better when shooting small burst of 3 shots in burst fire, or up to a max of 5 shots in full auto. More than that would be a real waste.
  
  
• When you marked out enemys behind not reinforced walls or windows, it a great tactic to fire in their somewhat location. Because of the high rate of fire, it will break down the wall pretty quick and they won´t know what hit them.
  
  
• To take out gadgets of the Defenders like the Black eye cams or the EDD, use your pistol as it safes ammo for your FAMAS
  
  
• When theres only 1-2 OPFORS left and you got more then 2 friendlys and you feel like they can carry you, you can use the FAMAS to pin them down in corridors or behind cover, to do some deflection. I would only do that when you are not alone, because as I said the gun is dry pretty quick.

Preferred Mods

• Red Dot Sight
  
• Compensator
  
• Vertical Grip

You can use any sight you want, but i prefer the Red Dot or the Reflex Sight. The ACOG feels a bit quirky because, again, the high recoil makes it impossible to aim.
The Compensator is a must have on this weapon, as it reduces the recoil, and that is what we need. If you are fine with that, you could use the Surpressor at the cost of 6 damage, but I think thats not really worth it.
The Vertical Grip greatly increases the control of the weapon, so you really want that and the Compensator.

My own Opinion

Afterall this gun is one of the best in game, with some flaws though. When I play Twitch I only use the FAMAS. The recoil may be high, but after a while of playing with it, you can control it pretty good. With the Compensator and the Stock equipped it makes it even more accurate. I use it in small bursts or single fire. It has a good modding pool and really nice skins up to this date, the Royal skin pack is one of my favourite of all the skins.

Because of its good usage and high rate of fire I give this weapon a 8/10 because of the recoil and the kind of stupid Iron Sights.

No problem. The flash hider used to be pretty much useless till they buffed it and now its become the defacto choice for guns in the game. Good guide though.
