Defencive Manuvering In towns
In towns ,it it sucks. Blending in and finding a good vantage point is difficult in the city maps. The best way to defent is from the top of a hill, or road. This allows you a straight shot to the end of the road. You are also far enough away so that it is hard for the opposing tem to spot you untill its too late. At this range, the cannon is used most. Only use the guns if infentry gets too close. Most cannons 50 mill and up will destroy any infentry car(jeeps and what not).

A huge problem in towns for medium armer and up is the infentry/recon flanking way to the sides of the armor and using anti armor weapong(grenades/basookas, ect).
Defencive Manuvering In wooded areas
Defending in wooded areas is a bit easier with more heavilly armered tanks. Getting out near a boddle neck or a good vantage point early is key. After killing a few jeeps full of people, or a few tanks, move to a new location. The new one should be far enough away that when looking, opposing tanks will not be able to see you. (so move about 50-100 meters away).

About half way through the game, you should falnk the opposing teams Armor spawn. Find a wooded area. Keep moving and do not, ever, stay in one place.
Weak Spots on Tanks and How this effects vantage point settup
Tanks up to medium armor are best armered in the front and back , as seen here. The weakest, and easiest to hit, part of the tank are the sides. When setting up a vantage point, point you self somewhere inbetween the parallel and perpendicular allong the line of attack.

On Heavy Armor, its a bit different. First of all, the range increased substantially. This has a massive effect on where you set up.. The very first thing in a round, it to scout a location(far away) where you can see the main boddle neck. Then, you just camp and kill.
In this, its important to use the "not parallel nor perpendicular" rule. Because the tracks are much better armored, you must aim for the top of the tracks and side of the turrett.
Extra Tips
1). First of all, you can (croutch) in tanks by pressing Ctrl. This puts the player down lower and uses the hatch as a shield from bullets.

2). Russians suck. I mean, they are terrable. The infentry likes to go up to spawn and camp with anti tank weapons. You will spawn in as a tank, and they have placed a mine there tanks spawn. They also plaze mines all along roads. Overall, spawnkilling.

3). The Russians have, really, only 2 good tanks. One in the light armor ctagory and one in the medium.

4). As you get higher teir tanks, the reload times increase, so every shot counts. Tracking the opposing team's vehicles with the turrett and knowing the travle distance of your cannon shells is very important. In my experience, tracking about 10 ft in front of fast moving vehicles(cars, motocycles) For armered cars, just track the front bumper. For tanks, you can track the front 1/5.
