Introduction
Welcome to my guide on how to change weapon skins.
I've used this effect several times in the past to create a makeshift skin changer, I will put some examples below of what I mean and what you can create.

Of course you don't have to change the skin multiple times like me, for example, you could just use this to have nice skins for your frag movies or do showcases and game-plays using a skin.

Note:
  • This does not work on vanilla guns.
  • You cannot be banned for doing this.
  • This is only for videos, it will not work in online games.
What You Need
Before you start swapping skins about, you need to know which skin you're going to be changing. This will not work on vanilla skins so you must have an idea of what gun you would like to be using.

Whether you're working with previous competitive games, demos or private games, you will have to find out what skins are being used so that you can change them.
Here's a simple way of how I normally write down what I'm working with:

Old Skin
New Skin
AWP
Safari Mesh
Medusa
AK-47
Safari Mesh
Vulcan
P250
Safari Mesh
Asiimov

(Old Skin = What the real skin is.)
(New Skin = What I want to change it to.)

Items File
Now that you know what skins you're changing, let's change them!

1. Firstly, go to your "items_game" file which can be found at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo\scripts\items

2. Then you want to copy and paste the "items_game" file.

3. Rename the new copied file to something you'll remember,
I call mine things like "EDIT1" or "EQUIP1".

Item Sets
Now that you have your copied items file, open it.
Even with a good computer you will still have to be patient here as there's a lot of code.

Now, we have to find the name for the skin you own, Valve like to rename a lot of the skins so it's easier to know what collection your skin is from.
I use csgostash to find out what collection a skin is in. csgostash.[csgostash.com]

When your file loads, press CTRL + F to bring up the search prompt.

Then you should type in the collection of the skin you own.
To make it easier for you I have listed all the main case collection names below, just search for them.

For example:
If your skin is in "The Winter Offensive Collection", you would search for "set_community_1".

Collection
Search Tag
The Winter Offensive Collection
set_community_1
The Phoenix Collection
set_community_2
The Huntsman Collection
set_community_3
The Breakout Collection
set_community_4
The Vanguard Collection
set_community_5
The Chroma Collection
set_community_6
The Chroma 2 Collection
set_community_7
The Falchion Collection
set_community_8
The Shadow Collection
set_community_9
The Revolver Case Collection
set_community_10
The Wildfire Collection
set_community_11
The Chroma 3 Collection
set_community_12
The Gamma Collection
set_community_13
Gamma 2 Case
crate_gamma_2
The eSports 2013 Collection
set_esports
The eSports 2013 Winter Collection
set_esports_ii
The eSports 2014 Summer Collection
set_esports_iii
The Arms Deal Collection
set_weapons_i
The Arms Deal 2 Collection
set_weapons_ii
The Arms Deal 3 Collection
set_weapons_iii
The Bravo Collection
set_bravo_i
The Alpha Collection
set_bravo_ii

You may have to search 'down' a couple of times.
But if you go too far you can search 'up'.

All other collections are easy to find as they are named after the collection.
For example, the Dust and Inferno collection would be "set_dust" and "set_inferno".
(All except for The Rising Sun Collection which is "set_kimono")

When you get to the item sets section, you'll see lists of skin collections that look like this:

Your Skins Code
When you have found the collection for the skin you own you should be able to find out which of the names is the one you want. If the name isn't obvious, the type of gun should be next to the name like "revolver" or "usp_silenced".

Now copy the name of the skin you own.

Then paste the skin name into the search prompt.
You'll have to search "up" a couple of times before you find the skin's information.
You're looking for something that looks like this:

You'll know when you have found your skins information when you see a number in quotation marks and your skin name next to it.

This part is important.

Now that you have found the code for your skin, you need to write down it's number that you see in quotation marks:

Copy and Pasting
Now that you have written down the number of the skin you own,
it's time to find the skin you want to replace it with.

It's just the same as before,
Find out the collection of the skin you want and search for it's name.
Go back to "Item Sets" if you need to and find the skin you want.

When you find the skin you want, it will look like just before:

Now you want to copy all of the skin's information from the top bracket to the bottom.
Like this:

Shortcut: CTRL + C to copy.
After you have copied all of that and then press CTRL + F to bring up the search prompt again, now it's time to search for the skin we want to replace.
Search for the number you wrote down from before.

Now you want to highlight all of the code and replace it with the code you copied.

So now you should have the skin you want inside the brackets of the skin you want to replace.

Complete!
And that is it!

All you have to do now is swap the file's names when you want to use your new skin.
I do this by writing "DEFAULT" on the real file and removing the custom name from the edited one:

If you want to change the skin multiple times like I did,

then you'll need to do this all again but in a new edited file like in the image above, you can see I have up to 10 files of edited skins.

If you do edit multiple files I recommend writing down all the skins you've used and replaced.
