Movement. How to move optimally.
By OmniPie
This is a guide on how to optimize your movements. I have over 1k hours and level 100 in this game and I've noticed that the majority of people lack good movement in this game. I am actually one of them, I learned a lot about movements while making this video and I want to share the knowledge with all of you guys! If this guide helped you improve your movement then please give it a thumbs up.

I also have an informative stream dedicated to helping newer players, and youtube for guides.

Introduction.
In this guide I will be discussing all the important aspects of movements. Giving you enough data that you have a full understanding of the topics and showing you how to be able to improve in them as well. The topics that I will go over are Speed, Dodges, Jumping/Fast falling, and end with some overall movement tips. All that will be covered in this video as well.

Youtube Video

Legend Speed
Speed affects horizontal movement and not anything else, not attacks, not dodges, not jumps, just left and right movement. An 8 speed legend can move horizontally faster than a 3 speed legend by 24%.

Moving left and right on the ground is 10% faster than moving on the air meaning running away or chasing is faster on the ground. To practice your horizontal movement, go into training mode and just try to hit the bot at max range while starting a good distance away from it.

Also work on running off the platform jumping and then ground pounding, try to get it so your hitbox is slightly away from the wall so that it’ll hit people on the wall and a bit off as well.

Once you’re comfortable with your legends speed then you can hit enemies horizontal of you easier and your ground pounds will be more effectively.
Dodging
Dodging across every legend is the same so if you know how to dodge on one legend you know how to dodge on every legend.

You can dodge in eight directions, the horizontal, verticals and diagonals.

There are two types of movement dodges, normal dodge which last a third of a second and full speed dodge, speed doge for short.

This dodge last about a quarter of a second, moves faster than normal dodge and can be cancelled any time by an attack, throw or taunt while keeping momentum. This is really good for chasing enemies that are just out of range and require a bit of a boost to hit them.

To trigger a speed dodge, you just have to move forward for about a third of a second, pretty much the same amount of time it takes to say a two syllable word like delay quickly. It also triggers if you dodge forward after an attack (this is called chase dodge). It’s really good for follow ups so try out combos and strings by dodging forward after hitting your enemy.

To practice dodges, dodge a couple times in all directions to get a feel for how far it goes. Then work on getting the timing down for a speed dodge and you’ll be ready to use them in battle.

You can’t dodge forever though, if you dodge from a horizontal platform then you can dodge again a second after it finishes, same thing if you dodge from the air and then you touch a horizontal platform, but if you never touched a horizontal platform right before and after a dodge then you must wait 3 seconds to dodge again.
Jumping/fast falling
To fast fall, you have to hold down when you’re not jumping too fast. When you jump, you move up really fast for about a quarter of a second and then you slow down. The part where you slow down and almost max height is when you can fast fall. This timing is not the same for every jump.

If you jump from the ground or when you’re not going upwards at all then you can fast fall right after a quarter of a second (the amount of time it takes you to say cat) but if you double jump as in you jump in the middle of a jump, then you’ll have to wait longer since the momentum adds up. You have to wait up to half a second depending on how fast you double jumped. The faster you double jumped, the longer you wait so for these you can only depend on visual.

You can practice by getting used to the initial jump fast fall timing first by repetition until you get a feel for it. Once you’re used to that, work on double jumps, for this look at your legend, once they start looking like they’re slowing down and almost at max height, then hold down. If you don’t want to look for the visual cue which is more optimal, you can wait at least half a second before fast falling.

Once you’re familiar with your legend’s horizontal speed, speed dodging and fast falling you can work on combining them all together to do cool stuff!
Overall movement tips
When on a side wall, the fastest way onto the plat is to press backward and then jump forward. Players often hold forward and then jump thinking that is the fastest way.

When you hold down on a soft platform and then immediately do a downward attack, you’ll do a grounded attack, you have to wait a quarter of a second if you want to fall down from a soft platform and do a down air or ground pound, the same amount of time as it takes for you to say one syllable like cat.

If you can get back to the sidewall from being knocked out without using dodge then don’t just use your dodge to close the distance, save it for when you need to dodge the enemy attack or a throw if it could knock you out.

When you’re moving around make sure you’re not always moving in one direction so you aren't predictable especially when recovering, don’t go straight to the side wall, float left and right a little so the enemy doesn't get an easy edge guard.
Summary
Learning what your legend's speed affects will greatly help you with spacing and landing your moves. Learning to dodge optimally can not only help you avoid damage but also dish out damage as well. Jumping and fast falling is something that will give you an advantage in terms of aerial combat.

I hope this guide helps you guys improve your gameplay! If it does please give it a thumbs up and share with your friends so they can improve too!
