1. Technical questions
1.1. If the game doesn't work properly (doesn’t launch, crashes, etc.)
Q: My game crashes at random or certain point
A:
- Relaunch Steam Application (or reboot your PC);
- Check if your PC meets minimum configuration requirements: http://steamcommunity.com/app/350640/discussions/0/357287304420881445/
- Verify the game cache integrity, for details check https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

If the game is still working improperly, please contact technical support team:
support@frogwares.com

1.2. Activation key for DVD
Q: I’ve bought a DVD with the game, but I cannot find an activation key inside the box.
A: Your CD-key is implemented into game DVD. Just start the installation and the game will be added into your Steam library automatically.
1.3. The character controls don’t work from keyboard
Q: Why did the character become unresponsive (cannot climb the ladder, cannot push a wagon, etc.)?
A: Character movement controls are WASD if playing from keyboard. It’s most likely that you tried to control the character with arrows keys. Although arrow keys function in exploration, it is preferable to use WASD.
2. General gameplay questions
2.1. Normal and hard modes
Q: What are the differences between normal and hard modes?
A: See below:
Minigames, Puzzles
Normal - usually skip is available immediately or after some time
Hard - skip is either absent, or available after 3 fails, or available after 3-5 minutes (depends on mini-game or puzzle)

QTE in dialogues
Normal - the hint with timer is shown on the screen (in the centre) and there is a hint in the upper right side of the screen
Hard - no hint with timer in the centre of the screen, only a hint in the upper right side of the screen

Check if conclusion is right at the case finish
Normal – available
Hard – not available

Deduction
Normal – usual deduction space
Hard - distortion effect upon combining wrong clues

Icons on evidence in the Casebook
Normal - Icons on evidence (Dialogue, Perform analysis, Search archives, Search the Map, Task for Wiggins) are shown
Hard - Icons on evidence aren’t shown

Observation of characters in dialogues
Normal - Unlimited time (Compete Character Portrait – you’ve correctly chosen meaning of all action zones; Imprecise Character Portrait – the meaning of at least one action zone is incorrect)
Hard – You have only 1 minute to study the character (Compete Character Portrait – you’ve correctly chosen meaning of all action zones, even if you didn’t press the validation button; Imprecise Character Portrait – the meaning of at least one action zone is incorrect, even if you didn’t press the validation button; Poor Character Portrait – the meaning of at least one action zone wasn’t chosen and you’ve failed the timer)

Difficulty level can be chosen:
  • When the New game is started: first option is for Normal and the second option is for Hard level of difficulty.
  • At any time in the Options -> Gameplay -> Difficulty level.
2.2. Green/white indicators of action zones
Q: Why do indicators on some objects have different colors? Some of them are white, and the others are green.
A: Every object a player can interact with is marked by a circle with a dot inside (what is called an "action zone").
If the action zone is white, it means the object is either not fully examined, or not examined at all.
After the object is fully examined, its action zone becomes green. There is also an immediate automatic exit out of the examination area.
If the action zone takes a form of an exclamation mark (!), it means you don’t need this object at the moment, but it might be required in your further investigation.

* Some action zones always remain white: all the characters, doors, interior items which might be used in investigation (an archive, a map, an analysis table, a wardrobe, a make-up table), entertaining puzzles in the neighbourhood of 221B Baker Street.

** Any action zone has a form of a small dot when you are not close enough to interact with it. So, to examine this action zone you just need to come closer to it.
2.3. When you don’t know what to do next
Q: I'm travelling from one location to the next and don't know what to do. How do I know what I’ve missed?
A: You can always figure out what to do next by using Casebook and Deduction Board:
- "Tasks" section of Casebook. All tasks recorded at the "Tasks" section ought to be finished. Titles of unfinished tasks may help you to proceed.
* In each case there is one main task which remains unfulfilled until you make any final conclusion.

- "Evidence" section of Casebook. There are special tooltips on some evidence and explanation what to do (for example, "Search archives", "Perform analysis", etc.).
*Note that the special tooltips are only shown when the difficulty level is "Normal".

- Deduction Board. Primarily the Deduction Board is used to combine collected clues and make final conclusions. But apart from that you can also receive some tasks after combining the clues. So, if the Deduction Board hint is steadily shown on the screen, do not ignore it. It indicates that you should either receive a new task, or make a final conclusion.

* If the information mentioned above doesn't help, please see the FAQ of the case.
2.4. Sherlock’s talents (imagination and detective vision)
Q: When and how to use Sherlock’s talents?
A: In the game there are 2 talents: detective vision and imagination.
Detective vision helps to reveal hidden objects. If there is T (RB for gamepad) hint on the screen, activate it and look around to find useful clues. The hidden object is highlighted in golden color. Wait until all pop-ups are scrolled and then the action zone appears. Now you can interact with the found clue.
Imagination helps to find out what happened or what will happen here. If there is F (LB for gamepad) hint on the screen, activate imagination and build the correct sequence of events by clicking action zones in the right order.

*Sherlock’s talents should be applied when there is a hint on the right side of the screen; this means that imagination or detective vision is helpful in this very area.
2.5. Deduction Board
Q: I don't quite understand how to use the Deduction Board.
A: The Deduction Board is a graphical interpretation of Sherlock's brain. It consists of two main parts:
- "Cloud", where all clues concerning the crime are situated. You should combine a pair of clues by clicking on them. We recommend that you rely upon logic while combining the clues, but, of course, you can just search the right pairs.

- "Space". Here you can observe all the conclusions obtained by combining the clues. Each new conclusion is flagged by an exclamation mark. Some conclusions can be multivalued, and in this case you should choose one of the statements. If the conclusions are red it means they contradict each other. To avoid the conflict choose another statements in red conclusions.

* Once you’ve reached any final conclusion you can easily switch to it by pressing C (or LB for gamepad).
2.6. Game saving
Q: When are saves made in the game?
A: Saves are automatically made:
- after dialogues, puzzles;
- when tasks are closed;
- when you first arrive to a new location;
- when some changes inside deduction were made, for example, a pair of clues combined, a moral choice made.

In the “Main menu -> Load” there are checkpoints for the current case, 1 checkpoint per each location.
*Lapse of time between saves is minimum 30 seconds.
2.7. Lock picking
Q: How to solve the puzzles with locks?
A: The aim is to let the pin pass to the right side by lifting the plates with the help of picklocks.
In the center there is a lock itself. There can be from 1 to 3 plates in the lock, located one behind another (1 is for the easiest lock, and 3 are for the most difficult). Each plate has a set of cogs and each cog consists of several segments (visually separated by horizontal bars); pay attention to the upper cogs. In the upper left part of the lock there is a pin, which has to be moved to the right.
On the left side there are picklocks, which can be single or double. The number next to a picklock indicates the number of segments it can lift.

To lift the plate and let the pin pass from the left to the right you need to choose appropriate picklocks which can lift the plate high enough. It is possible that one combination of picklocks is able to lift both sets of cogs one by one; otherwise, remove the first set you’ve used and use another.
For example, to lift up a plate with 2-segment cog you have to use a picklock #2.

If there are 2 or 3 plates in the lock, combine the picklocks so that all 2 or 3 plates are lifted simultaneously.
For example, there are 2 plates: first is with 1-segment cog, second is with 3-segment cog. To lift them use either picklocks #1 and #3 together, or use one double picklock #1-3.

When you choose a picklock it is automatically installed to the first available plate. Use controls to move to another plate.
The message “There is no space for this picklock” means that there is a picklock installed for every single plate in this lock and you cannot apply more of them. Try removing picklocks that don’t fit.

Pay attention to the hints on the screen; they change depending on your actions.
Shift (X for gamepad) – switching between picklocks and lock
RMB (Y) – remove installed picklocks (is available in the lock)
LMB (A) – apply the set of picklocks to lift plates
W, S (L-stick) change position of picklocks in the lock
2.8. Conclusions
Q: Can I check if I’ve condemned the right person?
A: There is an option to check your conclusion in two ways:
- on the final screen of the case (Normal level of difficulty only). Here you can also replay ending and choose another suspect or change your moral choice (i.e. absolve or condemn this suspect);
- in Main Menu -> Cases.
* green – conclusion is right, red – it is not.

3. Cases walkthrough tips
Below there are tips for the most frequently encountered problems.
You can also see the video walkthrough for all 5 cases on Youtube: Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter - full game walkthrough
3.1. Prey Tell
Q: Where do I find Tom's house?
A: After you find yourself on Whitechapel Street, go to North Street through the arch in front of you. Turn right, go the crossroad with Dorset Street and turn left. Go down Dorset Street, until you find the building №12 on the right. Walk inside this house, go upstairs, enter the room "E".

Q: I can't find a Pub leaflet in Tom's apartment.
A: Approach a jacket near the entrance door and press T (or RB for gamepad) to activate Detective Vision. Wait until all pop-ups on the jacket are shown, click on the highlighted object. It is the leaflet you are searching for.

Q: I’ve examined everything in Tom’s flat, took the letter from the attic, but I still can’t enter the Pub. What have I missed?
A: Most likely you haven’t clicked on both sides of the Pub leaflet in the jacket in Tom's flat.

Q: How to clean shoes?
A: 1. Click on the wet cloth and use it on shoe
2. Click small brush and use it on shoe polish. Then use this brush on the shoe.
3. Click big brush and use it on the shoe
4. Use the dry cloth on the shoe.

Q: What should I do when playing as Wiggins at Lord Marsh's manor?
A: The main object you should examine is a coat of arms. To find it go around the house and click on the window. The coat of arms is placed on the wall in the room.

Q: I've finished playing as Wiggins and don't know what to do next.
A: You've received a task to examine the drawing brought by Wiggins. This drawing is on the table in Sherlock's living-room at 221B.

Q: I've spoken to Lord Marsh and Dr. Fischer at their manor. What should I do now?
A: Go to Hurst’s flat and talk to Tom. It is mentioned in the “Evidence” section of Casebook.

Q: I have a part of a map with Epping Forest and it is written that I should “search the map”. Where do I find this map?
A: This is a map at Sherlock's flat on 221B Baker Street (it’s on the wall in the living-room).
3.2. A Study In Green
Q: What are the rules of lawn bowling?
A: The aim is to throw the bowls so that they come as close as possible to the white ball.
The points are scored to the player whose bowls are closest to the white marker ball.
The number of scored points equals the number of player’s bowls, which are close to the white one.

Q: What are the correct translations for each glyph in Mayan calendar puzzle?
A: See below (number of a glyph – number of correct translation):
Glyph 1 –1; glyph 2 -2; glyph 3-2; glyph 4-1; glyph 5-1; glyph 6-2; glyph 7-2; glyph 8-2; glyph 9-2; glyph 10-2; glyph 11-1; glyph 12-2

Q: I’ve placed a pyramid into the globe, clicked on it but nothing happened.
A: Press B (or Y for gamepad) to open Deduction Board. Combine clues to receive a task “Find out the truth about the Temple”. Now you can click the globe once again.
3.3. Infamy
Q: I cannot win the fight at the Green Dragon Tavern. I click as fast as I can, but Sherlock is killed all the time. What should I do?
A: The point of this mini-game is to choose the right action for the right object. Don’t click too fast as you won’t be able to read what can be done with certain objects. Switch between possible actions by using a mouse wheel (or D-pad for gamepad).
* The order of possible actions on every object is randomly changed after each restart.
Here is the order of actions:
1. Bar chair -> choose “Overturn”.
2. Bottle -> just click it.
3. Bandit in front of you -> choose “Take hat”.
4. The same bandit -> choose “Push aside”.
5. Hat in the air -> just click it.
6. The beam -> just click it.

how can I re-map the keys, I have an 11 button mouse and ONE WORKING ARM, why change the movement which worked so well in other SH games.? As usual with these SH games, the graphic designers are FANTASTIC.. the game designers and plot writers are.. far less than intelligent.

I solved it, it was what I originally thought but I just couldn't find the solution before. I think you mean you can only move on symbols either the same as what you're currently on, or next to it written on the wall. Once I had managed to get past that early stage I could figure it out no problem. The temple puzzles were enjoyable and nicely done.
oriolli25  [Autor] 6. Sep. 2018 um 11:43
@swfc_dan sorry, I didn't understand what puzzle you were talking, now I got it, You can see symbols on the walls - it means you can safely step on tiles with this symbol in this row; all other symbols in a row, except the one drawn above the row, are deadly.
swfc_dan 5. Sep. 2018 um 16:04
I don't want to know the route though, I want to know how it's actually meant to be worked out. Theres clearly a solution to the puzzle, yet other guides I look at just tell me the route which is annoying
oriolli25  [Autor] 5. Sep. 2018 um 14:48
@swfc_dan but there are only two routes- if you reach the deadend then it is a wrong one, just go back and choose another path. I don't remember now, but I think you should stick to the left :steamsad:
