(OUTDATED) How to snipe after the ballistics update! (Ranges for all guns!)
By gummy and 2 collaborators
Oh no! After joining a server with ballistics on, you can't hit those headshots anymore!

FEAR NOT

For I have tested all 3 sniper scopes and have gotten ranges on them!

Please leave suggestions/feedback/report problems with my guide in the comments

This guide does NOT show you how to properly range your target without a rangefinder, so try and use your own judgement.

I also have a steam group and an unturned arena server (Coffee House Arena) where you can rage and break your keyboard have fun testing your sniping skills!

http://steamcommunity.com/gid/103582791439059486

If you are going to use this guide in a video, just ask me in my steam profile comments: I will usually allow you to.
PLEASE do not use my stuff in your stuff without asking me first!

Make sure your scope resolution is not set to "off"! The scope reticles are incorrectly scaled, so this guide will not work if it is turned off!

Advantages and Weaknesses of Scopes
by Krodeon
Now each scope does have two noticeable differences, the reticle and zoom capacity, but what about the less noticeable differences between all 4?

7x Scope:
+Having the least zoom capacity, the scope also has the least sway between all 3.
+The horizontal lines can let you test and hit shots on moving targets much easier than guessing.
+/-Having chevrons can set some people off, but for some chevrons can be much easier to use than lines and MIL dots.
+/-Unlike its real counterpart, it does not have a rangefinder inlaid into the corner, which normally is used, and we will have to use the chevrons themselves to rangefind.
-Again it has the least zoom capacity with all the scopes, it may be good for some, but having 1 less times than the 8x scope, it is a negative.
-The scope itself is bright white and very visible, but it can be taken over by a skin.

8x Scope:
+The zoom on this gun is right in the middle between the two. Not too little, not too much.
+The scope itself is a very common drop and has a black colour making sure it does not catch the eye too much.
-It only has 5 lines and does not have any horizontal lines, meaning you cannot measure lead except by guessing.
-The center does not have any markings, rather the first line is right below it.

16x Scope:
+It has markings on all 4 directions, allowing for easy measurement, leading, and distance compensation.
+/-Its high zoom can be a blessing and your downfall. It's great at long distances, but if they come within 100m, you're screwed.
-The amount of lines make a very low visiblilty on those spectrums.
-The scope itself is very rare.

NightVision Scope:
+The scope has Night Vision allowing you to see better at night without revealing yourself.
+Alternative to NVGs as the glow does not show.
-/+The zoom capacity on this scope is 6x, which can be good or bad depending on what distance away the target is.
-The reticles on the scope are spaced very far apart, making it hard to hit shots between the reticles.
-The Nightvision makes it hard to identify targets in the sky, such as in an airplane, or in the water.
-At daytime, the scope can be very bright, and contrast between colours is very hard to notice.
Timberwolf, Grizzly, and "muzzled" guns
These all apply to the Grizzly, Timberwolf, and guns with muzzles on them as well, so ignore the title on the pictures.

Both of these guns have a maximum range of 300m, the highest of any non-workshop gun in the game.
These 2 guns have different ballistic properties than all the other guns in the game, with less bullet drop and faster bullet velocity, so these values are different to compensate for the lower amount of drop.

When you attach a military/ranger muzzle to any gun, it makes the drop pattern exactly the same as the Timberwolf and Grizzly.

Ekho
pointed out by Johnyknowhow
After playing for a while, I realized that the Ekho has slightly less drop than the Timberwolf and Grizzly. This was confirmed after I searched through the game files.

All other guns
These guides are for all other guns (except the shadowstalker) that can have a scope attached to them.
I had to make these a seperate section because they have more bullet drop than the timberwolf and grizzly, making the ranges for the mil-dots different.
(The shadowstalker has no bullet drop, but still has bullet travel, so you only need to compensate for movement.)

Some extra tips and tricks
Suppressed guns (matamorez, honeybadger, and any gun with a suppressor attached) have a lower bullet velocity than non-suppressed guns. This means that the bullet will travel a little bit slower, but will not drop any different. So make sure to aim slightly more ahead of moving targets when using a suppressed weapon.

I HIGHLY recommend going into single player and just trying out the sniping yourself against zombies. If you do this with a rangefinder and get used to distances from sniping positions into towns or from building to building, you will soon get used to figuring out distances yourself, allowing you to be just as deadly in multiplayer if you haven't found a rangefinder yet.

Also, try practicing your accuracy with some of the early game guns such as the hawkhound and schofield so you can pick one of them up soon after you first spawn and be just as accurate and deadly! Being good at only the timberwolf/grizzly won't get you anywhere if you don't have one!

Suggested by Mr. Clownie - Upgrade your diving skill if you feel that you cannot hold your breath long enough to aim steadily.

MAKE SURE YOUR SCOPE RESOLUTION IS NOT TURNED OFF BECAUSE IT MAKES THIS ENTIRE GUIDE INVALID!

If you like 2.0 so much, go play it. If you can't deal with a system that makes the game require more skill, acquire the skill or go play on easy where it's disabled.

What Johnyknowhow said.

Also, a feature that adds another level of difficulty that you can disable or just avoid is Cancer? Really? Are you being serious?
Johnyknowhow  [author] Aug 26, 2017 @ 1:59pm
Good to know? Three guys who like testing game mechanics can't do anything about it. Don't blame us for bullet drop, blame Nelson.

I'm not a major fan of BD, but it's in the game, so whining about it isn't going to do anything, unfortunately enough.

Everyone has their own opinion on the state of the game, and I respect that. However, telling everyone around you how you disagree with a factor out of the control of those you are talking to, doesn't seem worth their or your time. Is bullet drop good? I wouldn't say so. Does complaining about it in the comments section of a guide whose only purpose is to allow you to conquer the disliked game mechanic that is completely out of control of the guide authors acomplish anything? I would also say probably not.

Cancer. Literally the worst thing ever added in to Unturned. 2.0 was better.

Ah, understood. Thanks for catching that.

its maximum range is 200 meters, or 217 yards. you must have it set to imperial instead of metric.
