Yojimbo Calculator (100% Zanmato, and every attack chances)
Da rodrigo_vda
This guide will let you know how to use the Yojimbo calculator in order to calculate all the chances of the actions of Yojimbo.

It will also tell you what's the minimum amount to pay him in order to get a 100% chance of any attack you want (including zanmato).

1.- Introduction
WARNING: This calculator was made for the ps2 International verison o the game, which supposedly was the one being used in the Remaster. However apparently there's something different about this remaster, the "guaranteed" values dont always work out, making this calculator unrealiable for the PC/PS3/PS4 version.
Update 2nd May 2022: Apparently it's due to the remasters having a different calculation for the motivation in "Step 2". I'll work to fix the spreadsheet according to this information. If you're reading this, I haven't come around to fix it yet.

Hi there! First of all, this is my secong guide ever, and my native language isn't English, so I'm sorry if I make any mistakes. I appreciate all the support and feedback I can recieve. If you like the guide, make sure to like it! Press that hand!👍 😁

Since I'm Spanish, and in Spain we use commas (,) and dots (.) inversely when we math (In Spain 1.000 means "one thousand" and 1,23 means "one and twenty three hundredths" in Spain), my screenshots will have that criteria, but I hink Excel converts that automatically if you open the file with excel in another language. If you have any prblem, just ask me.

Ok so all the information that I used to make the calculator can be found HERE[www.gamefaqs.com]. People used to make some calculations by hand, but that's a little bit tricky, so I've made aeasy and quick calculator that's easily readable.
2.- What do I need?
Obviously, you need the calculator itself.

It's a excel file that you can download HERE[t.co]:

https://t.co/naXkET1Rqo

3.- How to use it
Ok this is really easy. There are 5 input cells. All of them are yellow-colored and are being pointed by arrows, so they are easy to spot. Just in case, they are A3, A6, A9, A12, A15, C12, A15 and F15.

Compatibility
This is a statistic that measures your compatibility with Yojimbo. When you hire him you start with a compatibility of 128, and after that it will raise or decrease depending on his (and your) actions, as depicted in the following table.

Payment
As you know, Yojimbo requires money to battle. This is the amount of money that you pay him (little advice, pay him in powers of two, 1024 gil will have the exact same effect as 2047 gil).

Total gil (Mode 1)
This only affects the Mode 1 statistics. If you hire Yojimbo with any other mode it'll have no effect at all.

Zanmato lvl
This is the Zanmato Resistance Level stat of the enemy. Every enemy in the game has this stat, it is a number between 1 and 6. If you want to know the Zanmato Level of an enemy, you can put it's name in the Zanmato lvl Finder box.
IMPORTANT: you must write the complete name in English with no spelling mistakes. It isn't case sensitive.

If you want to see the list of all the enemies with their zanmato levels, go to the Zanmato Levels list section of the guide.

Overdrive
You must select if Yojimbo has the overdrive bar full or not. It makes a big difference on the attack he does.

How do I know my Compatibility Stat and the Compatibility Mode?
There is no way to see it in-game, but you can open a save file with the FFXED save file editor and see it in the Misc menu.

You can read my guide on how to use FFXED HERE:

steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=685356413
There is another input but I'll explain it in the How to read it setcion of the guide.
4.- How to read it
I think it's self-describing, but just in case. There are 3 parts in the calculator:

Free attack
When Yojimbo's turn comes, there is a chance that he attacks for free, without asking for money. Here you can see the chance for that to happen, and the chance for every attack to happen in case he attacks. He will only be able to do Zanmato here if the Zanmato Level of the enemy is 1. The rest is calculated based only on the Compatibility Stat.

Normal Turn
If he didn't attack for free, he will ask you for money. Here you can see the chances of every attack, based on the Compatibility Stat, the amount of gil payed, and the Zanmato Level of the enemy. For Mode 1, it also takes into account the total amount of gil that you have. The calculations are based on this Yojimbo GameFAQs guide[www.gamefaqs.com].

Gil for chance
This section lets you know the amount of gil necessary to get a certain percent of chance for Zanmato or guaranteed chance of any attack. It prompts "Imposible" when the necessary amount is bigger than 1,000,000,000 gil (and for Mode 1, it also happens when it's bigger than the Total amount of gil aviable).

You can also put a percent in F15 so it calculates the required amount of gil to pay so Zanmato has as least that percent of happening. In this example, if you chose Option 2 when you hired Yojimbo, it would cost you 524,288 gil to have a probability of at least 55% of attacking with Zanmato.

More info
If you want to know how to see your compatibility, you can use my guide on How to use FFXED in a easier way. You can look that info in the "misc" menu.

If you follow that guide you'll see how to edit your saves and have lot's of fun even if you already played the game. You can play a New Game+, or you can play on Super Hard mode, edit the Sphere Grid so you get random roles, etc.

It's really fun, so give it a try!

ok. so i don't understand most of it. even after your explanation. I don't know what modes are, i dont know what x,x represents i get that they are percentiles but which number does what?

So I'm pretty sure that anyone using the calculator can make a separate adjustment for this to work on the remastered edition. Since the Calc uses C/4 and the game is C/10, you can adjust your own compatability score by using your assumed compatability*4/10. That will undo the /4 in the code and apply the /10.

For instance if you're certain your compatability is maxed out at 255.

Then 255*4=1020÷10=102.

Use 102 as your compatability.

I may be wrong about everything the Calc is doing under the hood. But the percentage I get looks accurate to my in game results.

Yeah, I know, you can see it a few comments down yours and at the beginning of the guide. however it's been a really long time since I made this calculator and I don't remember how some parts of it work (I made some spreadsheet dark magic that is very complex to reverse-engineer the roundings in the calculations). Some day I'll get into updating it, but it will take long, I've already beeaten this game too many times and it might be a long time until I get obsessed with it again (although I'm sure it will evetually come).

By the way, I'm not sure how up to date you are on FFX stuff but from a somewhat recent guide I found on youtube, apperently the formula for Motivation2 in Jobber's guide is incorrect. It's not /4 but instead /10

Not so sure on the sources and math of it myself, but this seems to be the most up to date information on it and he provides screenshots of a hex reader or something proving the point. Might be worth updating the file if you are so inclined.

That worked, thanks! I'll never be used to Mega's many different forms of jank

@Telephus don't worry about that, try to open the link from a private window. The link isn't broken.
SnapKick 30 gen 2023, ore 7:04
@rpgplayr what extension are you referring to?
rpgplayr 29 gen 2023, ore 21:31
@Telephus it works for me, do you have the mega extension?
SnapKick 28 gen 2023, ore 4:57
The mega link for the calculator is down. Any chance you can reupload?
