What is spycrabing? In-Depth Guide

A complete in-depth guide on spycrabing. A quick 5 minute to read to learn everything you need about one of Team Fortress 2's most popular betting method.

What is spycrabing?

Spycrabing dates back to the beginning of Team Fortress 2, and it is centered around the taunt a spies performs when holding the disguise kit.

When pressing the taunt key the spy normally performs an animation in which he throws a cigarette and says “I never really was on your side”; but, players quickly started noticing that there was a small chance that the spy would perform another taunt: spycrab. In this rare taunt the spy crouches and flails his arms in the air and using his hands as if they were crab claws. This is when players made this one of the most popular activities in Team Fortress 2.

Gambling, being one of most popular activities in the world, quickly found a way with spycrabing. Performing this rare taunt is completely random, therefore making it a fair game to bet on.

How does it work?

To spycrab you need 2 or more people, and a middleman.

First:

You need to agree on the bets you’re making, and give the items to the middleman (if the two players trust each other then there is no need for a middleman).

Second:

Once the bet is placed you have to decide how the game will be played.

The most common way of playing spycrab is the first to 3 spycrab taunts looses.

Third:

Both players need to stand in-front of each other and pull out their disguise kits, and start a count down.

Fifth:

Start pressing the taunt key until one of the players reaches a certain amount of spycrab taunts.

Important information and tips:

• It is estimated that their is a 1 in 10 chance of performing the spycrab taunt.
  
• Always deal with trustworthy people when spycrabing, many people tend to run away and not pay if they loose.
  
• Similar to the point above, use a middleman.
