Unlimited Money Guide for Beginners
By HotZoneTurtle
This was a glitch that was found in Fable: TLC but wasn't patched out in this version. It's a very simple system that can help early players earn money easily. There was no well written guide on this for Fable: Anniversary so I figured I'd remake the one I did for Fable: TLC.

Requirements & Suggestions
Requirements:
  • Must be at the adult stage.
  • Must have atleast some starting gold. (The exact amount you will need varies based on where you start.)

Suggestions:
  • Be atleast at Twinblade's camp. You will see why below.
  • Have a reasonably high guile. The higher guile, the easier this will be to start.
  • This is VERY difficult to do in heroic mode. It is possible but requires you to stock pile valuable items like potions from the start of the game which can be very difficult to do.
How does it work?
Fable uses a system of supply and demand along with a set price (What I will refer to as the "fair price".) to determine the cost of anything you are buying in the game. So, the less a trader has of an item, the more it'll cost; the more a trader has of that item, the less it'll cost.

This is why the game has the option to buy those goods that have no real use such as "Beer Kegs" and "Cider Crates".

These items will have different prices in different towns so you could buy some for a low price in one town which has a lot, travel to another town where they have few of them, and sell them for a higher price to earn yourself a nice profit.

There is however a flaw in this system in which the player can manipulate the market and drive prices to their advantage without ever leaving the trading menu.
Phase 1: Buying the Right Item
First off, it is possible to do this at nearly every trader. However, there is one place that, on every character I've made, I've been able to do this process very easily without doing any prep.

The place I recommend doing this first is Twinblade's camp. You can get there by progressing the story and getting to the mission where you have to find the seeresse.

There is a trader here that has a lot of beer kegs (Which means he'll be selling them for very cheap.) which, at this point in the game, you should be able to buy all of.

The trader I did this with I've highlighted below.

Now, what you want to do is find something he has a lot of.

As you can see below, he has 68 beer kegs. Which he SHOULD be selling for 46 gold. But since he has so many, he's dropping the price down to only 14 gold.

If you haven't picked up on this already, when a vendor is selling something for cheaper than the fair price, the price will be colored green.

Now here is where your starting money comes into play.

What you want to do is buy all of his stock of that item at once.

This ensures that you get every beer keg for the same price.

This will set you up for phase 2.
Phase 2: Selling at the Right Time
Now here is where the supply and demand system comes in. Since the trader has no beer kegs left, he will drastically raise their price to reflect a high demand.

This is your cue to sell them all back!

That's right! You don't even have to leave the menu! Simply move over to the sell screen and sell them all back to him for a drastically increased price.

Again, make sure you sell all of them at once.

As you can see, he is now buying them for 44 gold instead of the 14 he sold them for initially.

Even though he is buying them for less than the fair price, (This is why the price is colored red.) you are still getting 30 more gold per item! (This is why the profit amount is green.)

As long as the profit is green, you are making money and can repeat this process over and over again without ever leaving the menu.

Again, this can be done with almost any trader in the game. All they need to have is a high amount of any item so that they are selling it for far below the fair price. This trader just happens to always have these beer kegs and you meet him right when finding gold starts to become very tiresome.
Caution!
There are a couple ways that this process can screw you over if you don't pay attention.

If you either:
  • Don't buy enough of the item you want to flip.
  • Don't have a high enough guile.
you will actually lose gold by doing this!

This is why I say to wait until you get to Twinblade's camp before trying to do this because by then you presumably have a reasonable guile level and a good amount of starting gold.

Trying to start this process without either of those requirements can lead to you having to sell the item back for less than you bought it for.

That's another reason to create a backup save before trying this. ;)
FAQs
Q: I bought all of an item for a good price, but I'll still lose money if I sell it back.
A: Either your guile wasn't high enough, or you didn't buy enough. Either way, hang on to what you bought unless you NEED the gold now. If you bought below "fair price" like you should, there should be someone somewhere who will buy your items for more. Just travel around a little. The game will always tell you if you will make a profit.

Q: Can I do this with any item?
A: Yes and no. Since the supply and demand system usually needs a large amount of them traded to create a large difference, it's recomended that you do this with items there are large amounts of. Not weapons and armor.

Q: I don't want to get all the way to Twinblade's camp to start this. Is there anywhere earlier in the game I can go to do this?
A: The absolute earliest I've been able to do this is with the merchant just inside Bowerstone South. But it can be hard that early in the game due to a lower guile level and lower starting money.

Q: Can I do this anywhere?
A: Yes, though some places are better than others. For example, I stay away from doing this in taverns. For some reason, I can never get a good price in any tavern ever. They always want too much for their stock.

Q: Low level items are taking a while to get gold. Is there anywhere else I can go for higher profits?
A: After you get a nice amount of gold from low level items, I recommend moving to either:
  • The General Store in Oakvale. (Emeralds)
  • The General Store in Bowerstone North. (Diamonds)
Both of these places will get you a LARGE profit, but the amount of gold you need is so high that it can be hard for low level players to start.

Q: What are the best items to do this with?
A: Gemstones. The best examples are Emeralds in the Oakvale General Store and Diamonds in Bowerstone North. These items create the largest profit margin if you can afford to buy all of them.

Q: The buying price is very close to fair price. Should I buy them anyway?
A: Only if he has a lot of them. I usually don't buy unless I'm getting them for atleast half of what fair price is.

Q: Once I'm done with getting gold, is it best to sell all my profit items? Or should I keep some with me?
A: I always keep a reserve of profit items with me at all times. This way I can always have enough to start the process with any trader I find. You don't have to, but I always like having a backup.

Q: Doesn't this break the game?
A: No. Not to me atleast. I don't consider this glitch game breaking in anyway simply because you only are affected by it when you are trying to use it. The supply and demand system works perfectly in every other area of the game. If you don't like this glitch, just don't use it. I also felt like having unlimited gold made the game more fun. Not worrying about gold allowed me to focus only on gaining EXP which is much more fun in my opinion.

Q: Wasn't this guide posted already?
A: A version of this guide was posted by me in the Fable: TLC section but I decided to remake it so that new players could see how it looks in Fable: Anniversary. And don't worry, I'm the author of both guides.

Q: I have a question/comment/suggestion about this guide.
A: Leave a comment and I will either reply, or change the guide with any new information I get. :)

Each Merchant will also tell you the items they Want, so you could take Tofu and Cider Crates from *here* and sell them to the Merchant *there*, and while this makes restocking take even longer, this can help start off the what the guide is telling you about buying large amounts for cheap.

Also: while I prefer to be doing Quests than taking advantage of the economics of Albion; buying cheap and only from Merchants; then selling to the right Trader (the guys wandering the world, usually found getting beaten up by Bandits and Creatures) nets decent profit, but takes much longer.

One point I would add: each Merchant (i.e. all Shopkeepers and those Traders who operate from a specific place in the world) will restock your item after a specific amount of time, and the game tells you what this is.

the earliest item you can do this with is apples at bowerstone south and it's VERY cheap

All you have to do is buy all of one gem from a vendor if they offer a big discount because they have a lot of overstock. Then just sell it back, always buy the most and sell the most back and forth and you will gain infinite money from the same vendor to your hearts content. Works really well if you go around buying all of one type of gem from every vendor then just sell them all to which ever one gives a good profit. Then just buy them all back and sell them all again rinse and repeat and make your millions.

I don't understand, if you're willing to exploit and cheat the system, why not just save time and use a save editor?
ghoston Oct 23, 2023 @ 6:38pm
To me this is easier.

So if you have no problem with cheating, why not save time and get a trainer, a save editor or a cheat table?

I figured this out when playing the original game, but i do it when I first get into Oakvale after Darkwood Forest. I would buy all of the perfume and wait 3 days for the shop to restock then buy and sell. After half and hour of that i'd have a couple million gold.

You can do the same thing with gifts in Oakvale. There's a higher profit too I think.
