Dark Souls III: Estus Shards and Undead Bone Shards Locations

Hello fellow Unkindled ones. We all know how hard and important your task is. So this guide will help you find estus and bone shards to make the journey easier.

Intro

Dark Souls III uses the same mechanic DS II previously implemented regarding estus and its upgrades. So players have to find estus shards and undead bone shards around the areas in order to increase numbers of usages and the healing power. This guide will help you find everything to make the strongest estus flask.

Estus Flask Shards Part 1.

Starting with Estus shards. In the beginning of the game player has only 3 charges of regular estus and 1 charge of ashen estus which makes total number of 4 usages. In the game you can find 11 more shards to get maximum of 15.

Firelink Shrine

This shard is not the first one you can get but still it can be found in the hub area. In order to get it you have to purchase Tower Key from the Shrine Handmaid for 20000 souls. After that take the right stairs from the entrance to the Shrine and unlock the tower.

Go to the top of the tower and jump from the bridge to the roof of the Shrine.

Then you have to find a place to jump to the lower level of the roof and there you can find the entrance to the attic.

Inside you can take the shard from the corpse.

But if you're good enough you can get to the roof without purchasing the key. Just try to use the tree next to the Shrine building as a platform and jump to the roof from there. It's a hard trick but with some practice you can do it.

High Wall of Lothric

The true first shard is located in High Wall.

From Tower on the Wall bonfire go downstairs until you reach the way to the roofs.

Kill ambushing soldiers and other enemies on the roof and move forward.

At the end of the roof you will find the ladder. Take it and go down.

After that turn around and go to the room with Lothric knight inside. After that room you wil enter a big hall full of hollow soldiers and dogs.

Kill all of them and take the first shard on the anvil.

Undead Settlement

From Undead Settlement bonfire go forward through the house guarded by hollow settlers and thrall enemies.

When you go out you'll see a giant bonfire with many settlers around it. Kill them all and take the shard from the corpse right next to the bonfire.

Road of Sacrifices

From Halfway Fortress turn left and go through the woods.

Move forward until you see big stone gates.

Pass them and go towards the destroyed fortress. Turn left until you'll notice a couple of enemies near the cliff.

Kill them and jump down. You'll find another shard on the corpse.

Farron Keep

From Farron Keep bonfire go forward into the poisonous swamp.
You'll see a big collapsed bridge in the near distance.

Go underneath it and you'll see the treasure on the corpse surrounded by the giant leeches. Kill the enemy and get the reward.

Cathedral of the Deep

From Cleansing Chapel bonfire go back to the place you've come from.

You'll see 4 hollows praying next to the obelisk. Kill them and get the shard.

Catacombs of Carthus

This one is really tricky to find. Mostly because it's hidden in secret area. From High Lord Wohlnir bonfire go back to the bridge you've crossed before.

Destroy the supports of the bridge to make it collapse so you can use it as a ladder.

Go forward into the hall with giant fire demon.

Kill it or run pass the next couple of halls until you reach the room with bonfire.

After that you will enter the area called Smouldering Lake.

Be careful because a giant ballista will start shooting arrows at you so you have to keep moving and doging them all the time.

Roughly in the middle of the lake you'll find a rocky ground which also looks suspicious.

You have to make giant ballista destroy that ground so you can jump in the hole.

After that you should turn right. You'll see a fire mage on you way. Kill him and turn left to the big hall with bonfire in it.

There is an illusionary wall in that room. It's not really well-hidden so you shouldn't have many troubles finding it.

After that you should take the hallway left and behind the next corner you'll find another shard on the corpse.

Estus Flask Shards Part 2.

Irithyll of the Boreal Valley

From Anor Londo bonfire go to the old palace.

If you already opened the main gate kill silver knights and go inside.

You can find the next shard in the chest placed in the left corner of the room close to the stairs. It can be easy to miss because the area is filled with enemies.

If you haven't unlocked the door just turn left and go around through the upper levels of the palace.

Irithyll Dungeon

From Irithyll Dungeon bonfire go forward to the main part of this location.

The area is very dangeous and full of jailers who can be really annoying. Try to be as careful a possible.

When you enter the main hall turn right and go the the bridge connecting both sides of the hall.

When you get to the opposite side try to find a place to jump to the lower level.

After you get there turn left and run to the door leading outside of the dungeon.

Turn right and cross the stone bridge. Be careful because there will be an ambush on you way. Look around before moving forward. After that you'll enter the room with mimic in it. Kill him and get the reward.

Lothric Castle

From Dancer of the Boreal Valley bonfire take the ladder and go upstairs.

Turm left and go to the tower with elevator.

You have to kill big knight guarding the tower and take the elevator down.

But in order to get to the shard you have to jump out of it half-way through. You'll see the right moment to do it.

When you get to the Consumed King's Garden location turn right and take the shard from the corpse.

Grand Archives

First of all, you have to unlock the second shortcut to the Grand Archives bonfire. It will take you some time but when you manage to do so, this shard will be way easier to get.

Take the unlocked elevator to the top of the area.

And from there you take the stairs right next to the exit instead of moving forward.

Go to the belltower on top of the building.

But be careful the area is guarded by 3 Winged Knights. They are really tough and tricky to deal with.

Turn right and go until you see the big roof you can cross.

At the end of that roof you'll get the last shard.

Undead Bone Shards Part 1.

These Bone shards will make your Flask stronger allowing you to heal more. There are 10 bone shards hidden around the areas. Burn them in the main bonfire of Firelink Shrine.

Undead Settlement

From the Dilapidated Bridge bonfire go forward until you reach the open area where the giant shoots arrows at everyone from the distant tower. It is highly recommended to deal with him first so you will not have to worry about arrows flying towards you. You also don't have to kill him just make peace and he will shoot at your enemies only.

The shard is located on the corpse on the broken part of the bridge.

You have to jump to it. Just be careful.

Road of Sacrifices

From Keep Ruins bonfire go towards the big gate you opened by extinguishing the flames around the swamp.

On the right side you'll see the tower full of giant leeches. The bone shard is inside that tower. Kill enemies and get it.

Cathedral of the Deep

From Cleansing Chapel bonfire go forward passing by those praying hollows and cross the cemetary.

At the end of it turn right and kill gravekeeper guarding the area.

After that turm right again. There will be some transformed hollows around so you have to kill them or rely on giant archer from the tower because he can reach this place too.

After that take the shard from the corpse on the coffin.

Catacombs of Carthus

From Abyss Watchers bonfire go into the catacombs.

Cross the big bridge with skeletons on it to go deeper.

In the next room you have to kill spawning skeletons and take the stairs down on the right.

In the next room you have to kill 2 more big skeletons and turn right to exist the room. You'll see the giant staircase leading down but be careful, big boulder made of skeletons will spawn right behind you as soon as you start going down.

You have to be quick if you want to stay alive. Or you can use the side platforms to avoid boulder. When you finally reach the bottom room, immidiately turm around and kill the skeleton in a hat because he's controlling the boulder. When skeleton is gone boulder will crash revealing another bone shard for you.

Smouldering Lake

Before you go for the bone shard you have to reach this secret area. The way to do it has been shown in Estus shards section.
When you finally reached Abandoned Tomb bonfire go to the lake and turn left.

You will see a giant sand worm in your way. Try to get behind it as quick as possible because ballista on the cliff will be shooting at you.

The easiest way to deal with him is to stay behind so ballista's giant arrows will constantly hit the worm trying to reach you. All you have to do is just roll around doging them. When the worm is dead you'll get the shard.

Undead Bone Shards Part 2.

Smouldering Lake/Demon Ruins

When you're done with worm turn right and go by the cliff to the top.
There is a cave on the left side with bonfire.

Go deep into the demon ruins. When you enter the hall turn left and kill the pyromancer. After that find a staircase in the floor leading down.

At the end of the stairs will be big hall with 2 more pyromancers and some fireslugs.

Kill the enemies and get bone shard near the far left corner of the hall.

Irithyl of the Boreal Valley

From Church of Yorshka bonfire turn left and go outside.

You'll end up in the small garden with couple of enemies.

Kill them and go right. You'll see a giant gravestone and the big enemy around it.

Defeat the enemy and get the shard behind the gravestone.

Profaned Capital

This one is really easy to get.
There is a corpse right next to the Profaned Capital bonfire. The shard is on it.

Lothric Castle

From Dragon Barracks bonfire go forward until you see a bridge with 2 giant dragons on the other side.

Dragons will breathe fire at you as soon as you come close enough. You have to be quick and careful.

Cross the bridge and jump down at the end of it. You will find the shard on the corpse below.

Grand Archives

In order to make it easier for yourself you have to unlock the first shortcut to the archives.

After that from the Grand Archives bonfire go inside the building and turn left to the elevator you've just unlocked.

Take the elevator up and go the staircase on the right.

Kill enemy sorcerers in the next room and get outside of the building.

Now you have to cross the roof of the archives. Be careful on your way will be several gargoyles. They are strong and should have been taken one by one.

At the end of the way you'll see the building with broken window below the roof. Jump to it and enter the room.

Inside you will find another sorcerer and the bone shard on the corpse.

Conclusion

If you managed to get every single estus shard and every undead bone shard you will end up with 15 charges of estus +10. Just do not forget to brind estus shards to blacksmith Andre and burn bone shards in the main Shrine bonfre.

The location of the one in Road of Sacrifices isn't described best in this guide. Couldn't find a thing there the way you described it. When I turn left after passing the gate with the graves, I don't get anywhere near a cliff. I'm currently trying to get the last shard I missed and find this guides very vague sometimes, sorry :( Doesn't mean you did bad work or I wouldn't appreciate it, but sometimes, it really is vague.
