Making Friends

In all seriousness, a lot of people in Rust will kill you on sight. I don't know why it's got worse over the years but it has. Not matter what server or what time you are playing you will come across multiple people that will instantly shoot or chase after you.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't give other players a chance, I personally have met multiple people on Rust that I have trusted enough to build a base with and share codes with. A few of them we are good friends with still to this day.

A good example of this is,

Myself and my friends were at war with another clan overnight and later that night we saw two players with torches in the pitch black running past our base, a few of our snipers started shooting at them and from then on we apologized for killing new spawns and invited them into our group. After playing with them for a while, we added them on steam, invited them to our teamspeak and even added each other on Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram.

It just shows that trusting other people on any game and being open to meeting other players can lead to making friends whether you only have contact inside the game(s) or whether you become friends outside of game as well.

Playing in a bigger group will allow you to harvest faster and build a better base.

Building a base
When building a base there are a few things you should take into consideration such as,

  • The areas terrain
  • Location
  • Layout of the building

There is nothing greater than building a lovely base in where you think is the middle of no where and finding out that on the other side of that giant rock you thought was awesome, was really hiding a whole city of bases in which one of them will probably raid you.... Welcome to Rust ladies & gentlemen.

If you somehow actually managed to build something other than a one story bamboo shack then don't get used to it because sooner or later some group of a$$holes will come and blow it up with the glorious invention that is known as C4.

The most important thing to take away from this would be to not get attached to any physical building, location, item or anything in the game because eventually everything will be gone... Enjoy!¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you are new to rust or you feel like your bases are not very good. A piece of software that we used to use to help design our bases is FORTIFY

This software allows you to use real Rust mechanics and design your base so you don't have to design it while trying to avoid other players.

Playing in a group
There's nothing better than wandering across the wilderness with AK's and picking off bambi noobs along the way. Most likely you will encounter another group at some point or another.

One thing to take into consideration when making a base for multiple people is, how you are going to share. One method me and my friends used is to build a base with multiple floors and have a staircase or set of ladder hatches so that everyone has their own floor. Another way is to build a base and each have your own room.

If your group is trustworthy enough you can just share all your chests in one base, just take into consideration who you are playing with.

Resources
Rad-Towns are heavy-traffic areas which are usually infested with♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥bags. Make sure if you're going to make a run, come armed and make it quick. Always rush home right after getting something good.

The most popular Rad-Town has to be Split Town (the one where the road goes through the center)
There are always huge bases, and most firefights happen around this area.

From my experience, the best areas for loot are as follows
Hangar
Split Town
Factory
Big Radtown
Civilian Road
Civilian Mountain
Tanks
Bunkers

But be careful, since there is good loot to be had at these locations, there will always be other players that are happy to kill you and steal your stuff.

Harvesting

Never stand still while doing this, always make sure you rotate around the rock / tree so you can't get headshotted or shot in general. This also helps you watch out for enemies, since you get a 360 degree view of your surroundings. Once you're done harvesting make sure to get back to base, and store your resources before doing anything else.
My Thoughts
At the end of the day all that matters is that you have had fun, or had as much fun as possible. Although I don't just play for fun and I do like to be a in group of people who want to play seriously and get the base and gear possible.

Rust can be stressful or annoying at times and you may rage quit and not want to play ever again, (Trust me I have been there)

But looking back over the last two years that I have been playing Rust I have enjoyed playing it and it has allowed me to meet people (both nice and weird...Like there are some strange ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥) And I have so many memories both good and bad, but thats what makes it even better. Although I have had many arguments and fallen out with people on Rust, I am glad I started playing and continue to play Rust. Just enjoy it!

Friends I have made thanks to Rust

nebulusbender, Kpina, Myles, OriginalBZ, Spacoraptor, Theo.frog, Seriousmax
