1916 U Deutschland Merchant Submarine

Description
1916 U-Deutschland Merchant Submarine

Launched in 1916, the U-Deutschland is a merchant submarine that conduced two highly celebrated voyages to the United States in defiance of the British blockade of Germany. It was later converted into a submarine cruiser which sank no less than 42 merchant vessels before the end of WW1.

With huge bunkerage, it can carry up more than $10 million worth of high value materiel per trans-Atlantic voyage. This replica has been scaled up by about 50% to enhance practicality and level of detail, allowing easy conversion into the 1917 SM U-155 submarine cruiser configuration with FtD building materials. Its excellent stability and enormous internal volume will also allow you to outfit the vessel into almost any transport, prospecting or combat roles in FtD with room to spare for a few creature comforts aboard. U-Deutschland is, after all, a civilian built and operated vessel at first.

Control Notes:
Outfitted for merchant duty, U-Deutschland in the supplied blueprint will cruise at periscope depth indefinitely. The maritime rules of engagement in 1916 do recognize her as a merchant vessel despite protests from the Entente powers. As a civilian funded and operated vessel, deep submergence tests and combat maneuvers are currently prohibited.
