Welcome to the 'Verse
The beginning of the game is truly a cinematic introduction to the game that gets you right into the main storyline. During your initial missions you’ll find they’re acting as a tutorial as much as slowly opening up the storyline to you. Pay head to the pop-up guides and you’ll swiftly get the hang of how things work in the game and on the frontiers of space…

Find a Job
Now, as the main storyline unfolds, you’ll inevitably find yourself and your ship being increasingly outmatched. This indicates it’s time to make your own way in the ‘verse for a while and upgrade your ships weapons, defences, systems…or just upgrade your ship per sae. Who doesn’t like a shiny new ride given how we all start out in this game…

How you garner credits to upgrade your boat will depend on what type of character you like to portray in this game and what you find fun. Indeed, you can stay lawful (or semi lawful) or become an outlaw depending on what you do and how reputations change with select factions. And this in turn changes elements of the main storyline…provided you stay true to such ways.

Let me just cryptically say this; When searching for a Squealer, Juster Doublecross the militia for a Nasty Surprise and more nefarious hint in the storyline.

Don’t worry about this too much, just play the game as it feels right for you and you’ll do just fine…

However, I must let you know something. Faction reputation changes what sort of space stations you’ll be welcome at. If you curry favour with the red devil cartel…you (may) loose favour with the militia and then you’ll likely have to stick to pirate and outsider bases only. You can see them by opening your map and noting the red rams head like symbols on the map and green squares respectively. If you decided to stick on the lawful side of things however, you can visit most normal space stations as well as visit and work for the militia, the merchant’s guild and/or the mercenary’s guild. You can smuggle on the sly with a smuggler’s hold and still be thought of as lawful by the way.

The different sorts of space stations you visit can offer different sorts of ships, weapons, defence systems and utility systems for you to buy. And any space station you note saying criminal will offer you a smuggler’s hold for sale…and likely let you sell some contraband. Hey, everybody likes a good Narco-Cola from time to time. For heavens sake Confederation, it’s just some cola, what’s the harm? Do you have issues with sugar in fizzy drinks? It could be sugar free…you don’t know! :P

Anyways, after that it’s gonna be some trial and error in playstyle preference in this game. Once you find what combinations of stuff work well for you and give you heaps of fun playing with in the game, stick with it and upgrade your weapon, defence and system gear levels of such things. Every system will have a level cap of gear on offer…but the max level cap for gear is level 6. That’s right, level 6 is not just a Killjoy myth, its real people!

Such gear level caps will change by the system you find yourself in at any given time, and some additional ship choices will open up too…
Keep Flyin'
What boat you fly in the ‘verse says a lot about you. Personally I fly a scarab class light frigate. It’s small, fast and turret orientated. However, outfitted with mining lasers, nutronic beam arrays, flack cannons, a deflector absorber and a large smuggler’s hold…I found no better ship suited to my tastes and needs. I fly rings around larger ships in the ‘verse and turn their missile barrages into shield power as I slowly chip away at them until they’re nothing but salagable hulks floating in the deapths of space.

But other folks have other ways of playing. Some like a medium speed, heavy armoured boat with a fair number of broadsides and turrets mixed. Others still have a love for a veritable juggernaut and favour the biggest, badest ship in the ‘verse to drop out of warp with and just barrage the livin’ hell outta folk until they’re the only ones left standing. Others yet still choose their boat based on a purely aesthetic basis and then learn how to fly her and optimise her systems in any given situation.

Learning what suits you best in Rebel Galaxy is the key to keeping you flyin’…

Now FYI, if you want to get a real good look at the ships in the shipyard, click and hold the right mouse button and move around. And if you want to know where your ships turrets are being placed when you’re installing a new weapon, just scroll down to the turret in question using the mouse wheel…and then note the little grey box that appears over your ship.

Oh, and best will in the 'verse, you may need to call in a mercenary from time to time to help you out. There's a few to choose from, and they change depending on what system you're in and station you find yourself on...

"Hey, everybody likes a good Narco-Cola from time to time. For heavens sake Confederation, it’s just some cola, what’s the harm?"
Original coke had actual coke in it. As in cocain. Mostly just figured it was a reference.
