How healing is calculated
The good thing about healing trinkets is that the fractions involved round up to more points of healing!

Lets take a look at the Chirurgeon's charm. 15% extra healing doesn't look like much. But this means all your 1 heals go to 1.15 which rounds up to 2. This means +1 to all your heals. Battlefield Medicine, Inspiring Cry, and Fortifying Vapors at level 1 will now double their healing!

Example 1:
An Antiquarian with level 3 Fortifying Vapors always heals for 2. The 50% bonus from Candle of life will make it heal for 3 (2 * 1.5 = 3). The 15% bonus from Chirurgeon's charm will also heal for the same ammount. (2 * 1.15 = 2.3) which rounds up to 3. But, if you use both, you will heal for 4! The bonuses add up: 1.15 + 1.5 = 1.65. A heal for 2 * 1.65 = 3.3 which rounds up to 4!. Double your heals! Junia's head will give 15% more to healing than Chururgeon's Charm, but still won't be enough to push your healing over 4. Save yourself the +20% stress damage and use Chirurgeon's + Candle.

Example 2:
Sacred scroll, Tome of Holy Healing, Chirurgeons Charm, or Profane scroll will stack similarly with Vestal. Your 2 heal on divine Comfort with >+50% heal skills will raise to 4. You can't do that with Scroll + Chirurgeon's Charm; you'll wind up with 48% and heal for 3. Use a Tome of Holy Healing with your Scroll for 58%. A 33% bonus for when it rolls a 3 only increases the heal to 4, the same as a 15% Chirurgeon's Charm. Combine your 33% scroll with any other healing bonus item and you will get 5.
The Breakpoints
When players tried to min/max their characters in Diablo II, they found the exact ammount of +%attack speed they needed to make a difference in the ammount of time they would animate an attack swing. The total bonus percentages they needed to make a 1/60 second faster swing was called a breakpoint. Similar numbers can be found for healing in Darkest Dungeon.

Any %bonus to healing will increase your healing by at least 1 point!

Recomendations
Recommendation for Vestals: Chirurgeon's is a good place to start. Tome of Holy Healing + Sacred Scroll should be what you aim for.

For Antiquarian healers: Chirurgeon's Charm for level 1, for level 2-4 pair Chirurgeons with Candle of Life to make your heals for 2 become heals for 4. Take note, when you max Fortifying Vapors, you should only use the candle. Your free space can be for whatever you want.

Crusaders can heal up to 3 extra points with Battle Heal and the trinkets: Commander's orders + Chirurgeon's Charm. For users of Inspiring Cry: Chirurgeon's Charm OR Commander's Orders, but not both.

Occultists: Chirurgeon's Charm. Any non 0 heal will go up by 1 and all heals over 6 will get +2 and heals over 13 will get +3!

About PROT: numbers for the amount of damage reduced for this will round up as well. Even a measly +5% PROT can shave off at least 1 damage from all attacks.

Fun Fact - the highest single target heal is a maximum roll critical from Occultist with Junia's Head and Chirurgeon's Charm. This will heal for 58 health. It will bring a level 5 fully armored Leper from Death's Door to 5 points shy of full recovery.

+%healing and +%stress healing are different trinket bonuses. The only Trinket with bonuses to stress heal is the Bright Tambourine. I am guessing it works the same way. I can't confirm that right now though.
