Introduction
Welcome, to the fourth episode of ARK: Dino Dossiers, in which we’ll cover the dinosaur with a brain the size of a walnut: Stegosaurus Regium.

Appearance and size
The Stegosaurus is a medium to large quadrupedal, armored herbivore that has a few unique traits. It has approximately 16 paired rows of plates along its back, flanked by another smaller pair of 6 plates that go all the way to the end of its tail. On the end of the tail there are four spikes that are used as a deadly weapons by swinging its tail when angered. Its less interesting trait is a relatively small head and with that a small brain.
It ranges up to 9 meters in length and 3.5 meters in height, which makes it a medium to large herbivore.
Behaviour
The Stegosaurus is, overall, a friendly giant just grazing about as long as it’s not angered. But once angered, by attacking it or stealing its eggs, it can be dangerous with its spiky tail. Its attack can knock an enemy back depending on its weight. Stegosaurus can also reflect damage upon its attacker due to its armored nature. This is a certain percentage of their melee damage and scales if their melee damage is levelled. They live in herds and will come to each other’s aid once attacked.
Statistics
A Stegosaurus at level 1 has 570 health, 300 stamina, it can carry 440 weight, does 41 points worth of melee damage, 100% movement speed which means 170 for walking, 598.4 for sprinting and 300 for swimming.
Geographical location
Stegosaurus is generally found all over the Island with the exception of the winter region and mountains. Though they tend to live more on the Southern half of the Island. You can find it on beaches, near rivers and in forests. You probably won’t have a problem finding this creature.
Domestication
Once you have found your Stegosaurus you can decide to tame it. There are two phases: knocking it out and taming it.
The first phase, knocking it out, is relatively simple and is the same as for any other dinosaur. You want to kite the Stegosaurus towards a cliff, rock or even some trees that prevent it from reaching you. Then start knocking it out with a bow, crossbow or dart gun, keeping you distance is key here. Alternatively you can do this with a clan member where one kites it and the other shoots it. This is pretty easy since it’s pretty slow.
Once you have downed the Stegosaurus the second phase starts, taming it. The same as for most animals, you want to deplete its hunger to round 100, where after you force feed it with Sarcosuchus kibble, vegetables or berries. If you use berries, make sure to use Mejoberries since they are more effective than their counterparts. Meanwhile make sure to use narcotic or narcoberries to keep the Stegosaurus knocked out.

Saddle
Once the taming process is complete crafting the saddle is available at level 30 and is crafted with 200 hide, 110 fiber and 35 wood. It provides the Stegosaurus with 25 armor.
Utility
Once tamed, Stegosaurus’ utility is mainly focussed around gathering. It is harder to tame than the Triceratops, but in return is also better at gathering. It is good to have one for harvesting berries, second only to the Mammoth and Brontosaurus. Alternatively it can be used as a transport animal, especially when using multiple to form a train. This means that when you are out gathering resources you can gather more in one take, because of all the extra carry weight. You can do this by letting every Stegosaurus follow the other and the one in the front following you.
Thirdly it can be used as a battle mount against small, medium and even larger dinosaurs. Especially because of its damage reflection.
Conclusion
The Stegosaurus is a medium to large quadrupedal, armored herbivore that has a few unique traits. It is overall a docile creature until provoked and can inflict some damage with it's spiky tail and damage reflecting plates.
It can be found easily and when you do taming it won't be that hard.
Its main use is focussed around gathering berries, but it can be used as a transport or battle mount.
