How to spot a Spy
Por The Fancy Fedora
I have been in many games during my 1010 hours of Team Fortress 2 where there has been a team (usually newer players) who have failed to spot and kill a disguied Spy, one time I was playing Spy on CP_MountainLab and was walking towards the enemy spawn and walked directly into a Scout who just walked around me thinking nothing of it. Then I killed him because 'free points'. Anyway this guide is going to list the many ways you can tell if a player on your team is actually a Spy, this guide is aimed at newer players but maybe I will be able to help some more experienced players aswell :D

Basics
Players that aren't enemy Spies:
  • Teammates that are in your spawn (There are some glitches that let you get into the enemy spwn though. Cough Couch Delfy).
  • Teammates that are firing their weapon (As a Spy once you shoot or stab something you lose your disguise).
  • Teammates taunting (Press G to do an action if you don't know what taunting is).
  • Spies on your team that don't have a disguise mask on is a guarentee that they aren't a Spy.
  • If an Engineer is holding a Tool Box, a Construction PDA or a Destruction PDA they are not a Spy.
  • If a Teammate walks through you they aren't a Spy.

I think that's it. Now I will tell you who is a Spy!
  • Players missing body parts (Missing their Head or Torso etc).
  • Players holding no weapons or the wrong weapon (This is a bug that has been in the game for ages).
  • Players putting Sappers on Teammates buildings.
  • Teammates casually walking around the enemy team without being killed or killing them.
  • Players who are holding werd weapons (They might not be a spy though but why would an engy be walking around with a wrangler and not a shotgun).
  • Teammates who are standing ontop of a Sentry or Dispencer on your team (Unless they are the Engineer who built those buildings).
  • Teammates walking through enemy buildings.
  • Teammates who aren't a Spy going through enemy teleporters (Only the Spy can take enemy Teleporters)
  • Teammates who are standing on a Capture Point or Payload and aren't making it capture faster (Example: Soldier and a Scout are pushing a payload but the playload bar at the bottom of your HUD only says X1 capture rate. It should say X3 capture rate).
  • Players who pick up Health kits on full health.
  • Teammates who bump into you instead of passing through you.

Now we are going to move onto individual classes :)
The Scout is a Spy!
  • Spy got a speed buff in the Meet Your Match Update so now he is the same Speed as the Medic, but it is still quite obvious if you see a Scout running slower than he should be.
  • If a Scout doesn't double jump when any normal player would (Still might not be a Spy though but still).
  • If you kill a Spy as Scout and have the Candy Cane equipped the Spy will only drop a small health kit if he is actually dead and not using the Dead Ringer.

The Soldier is a Spy!
  • Soldiers holding the Escape Plan will be marked for death (Have a skull above their head) If they don't that are a Spy.

The Heavy is a Spy!
  • Heavies wearing the Gloves of Running Urgently or The Bread Bites will be marked for death (Have a skull above their head) It they aren't they are a Spy
  • If a Heavy is giving you a death staer he is a Spy (If their eyes are wide open).

The Medic is a Spy!
  • Medics that are low on health and aren't naturally healing are Spies
  • Medic that aren't healing anyone are Spies (They could just be new players but if they have like 3 Unusuals and a Golden Pan they are probably a Spy).

The Sniper is a Spy!
  • Spies can't zoom in or draw back a bow if they are disguised as a Sniper
  • Snipers wearing The Cosy Camper won't get the healing bonus.

The Spy is a Spy!!!!111!!
  • If a Spy on your team glows the enemy colour when he cloaks or decloaks.
  • Spies on your team that don't have a disguise mask on is a guarentee that they aren't a Spy.

The reason why I didn't have a Section for every class was becuause there wasn't anything unique I hadn't already mentioned in the Basics slide. But before I go to the last part here is a picture of the Spy disguised as each class and as you can see, his hitbox doesn't change. I hope this helps you decide on who you should disguise as in different situations or something.
The End
Thanks for reading my guide!!! If there is anything I have missed please let me know in the comments :) I hope you have learned something by reading this but before you go,
< This Pistol Sentry thing is so cool XD I found this picture when looking through Google Images for that Scout GIF at the start.

Anyway here is a video by Mr Paladin on how to spot a spy. He talks about most of the things I mentioned in this guide and goes more in detail about Dead Ringer Spies and stuff so be sure to watch it (The video is quite old though and the Dead Ringer has been changed alot since so some stuff isn't true anymore).

Thanks For Reading! :D
