Chie Satonaka

Descrição
Nobody had made a recolour of Cadence to Chie from Persona 4 so I decided to put my meagre skills to work and do it myself.

Want to play as the best girl from P4?* Now you can! This is a simple reskin/recolour for Crypt of the Necrodancer which alters the default player character to be Chie Satonaka, the butt-kicking, name-taking defender of the weak and helpless from Persona 4.

This mod will change Cadence's sprites to those of Chie, with unique armour recolours!

-Default/unarmoured tunic is now Chie's Summer Yasogami High uniform (from P4 vanilla)
-Leather armour is now Chie's Winter Yasogami High outfit (from P4 vanilla)
-Chainmail is now Chie's Winter casual clothing (from P4 vanilla)
-Plate armour is now Chie's Midwinter Yasogami High outfit (from P4 Golden)
-Heavy plate armour is now Chie's snowsuit (from P4 Golden) <--- what can I say? It gets cold deep underground.
-Karate Gi is now the iconic yellow-and-black tracksuit from Bruce Lee's 'Game of Death' (P4: Dancing All Night DLC)
-Obsidian armour is now the three tiers of Chie's persona: 1x/no multiplier is Tomoe [Gozen] (from P4 vanilla); 2x multiplier is Suzuka Gongen (from P4 vanilla); 3x multiplier is Haraedo-no-Okami (from P4 Golden)
-Glass armour is now Chie's Summer festival yukata (from P4 vanilla)

-Clone enemy sprites are now Shadow Chie(s)

I hope you enjoy! Forgive the shoddiness of some of the sprite work, it's been easily 10 years since I last recoloured a spritesheet. Many thanks to the awesome people who made Crypt of the Necrodancer, I love this game!

*Come at me bro. If you disagree with my choice of kung-fu waifu then why don't you bring the waifu wars to Necrodancer and make your own recolour! Seriously - I'd love to see some more P4 mods made by better and more capable modders than me. Dancing All Night laid all the groundwork anyway, maybe one day we could get a full 'Persona 4: NecroDancing All Night' mod like the Undertale and Mega Man guys & gals do...

Further notes for people who for some reason are interested:

-In the future I might keep tinkering away at this. I figure two-player would be a good place to make some Yukikio sprites; I know a lot of people don't like Yukiko but it makes sense for her to be the player 2 to Chie's player 1.

-I don't know whether or not I'll edit the actual item sprites to be closer in line with the costumes I've used to replace armour, since (though I've tried to choose more robust costumes as armour strength increases) changing easily-identifiable items into less distinctive clothings might not be great for actually playing the game. Also this means that if I added sprites for other characters I wouldn't have to worry about e.g.: Yukiko being presented with items that were designed around a different character - keeping things standardised keeps things simple.

-Obviously every set of sprites could use gradual small changes here and there to improve the look of this mod, but only sprites which I'm not particularly happy with are Chie's personae which replace the obsidian mail.

[This is partly a hangover from trying to figure out what outfits to use in the recolour, as originally I had the yukata as the karate gi (which I thought seemed like a nice pairing) and Bruce Lee's tracksuit as obsidian armour (with the bonuses from an extended combo chain being represented by blue and red 'heat' cribbed straight from the Yakuza series) BUT this left me without any idea of what to use to replace the glass breastplate. In the end I mixed things up and went with Tomoe->Suzuka Gongen->Haraedo-no-Okami for obsidian armour, which made more sense than having a super-fragile one-hit-then-shatter persona sprite.]

The main issue with these sprites is that I can only make them Chie wearing her persona's costume rather than actually having a stand-in. This is because the body and head sprites are separate entities (which makes sense) and there are no additional sprites for the player character's head when wearing different tiers of armour (again a understandable design choice). This means that if I did add a helmet to any of the armour sprites, this is layered underneath the head and just doesn't work. If anyone can find a way of adding head sprites for when the player is wearing obsidian armour then I will probably come back make the personae to actually replace Chie in this instance, but otherwise this is the best I can do (and these sprites are where I strayed furthest from basic recolours anyway, which is why they look janky).

This is so good. And Persona 4 was really a great game.

Awesome, well I've got myself Audacity now so I'll see what I can do. Might take me a little while to get to grips with it but I'll see if I can't cobble something together by the end of the month!

I used Audacity to trim the audio clips for my Yu Narukami mod, easy to use and well documented if you can't figure out something. Also has some cool effects - try out the Reverb and Echo effects for things like Cadence's death sound!

Thanks for the support! I'll have a look at editing sound files, though I might need to find an open source audio editor first to trim audio clips.

Yes! More Persona 4 mods! Great work so far!

Of course, this would be better with Cadence's voice clips replaced with Chie's - Here are some samples from Persona 4 Arena: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIq2R9h4E5U

Also, we need Steak to replace one of the food items :P
