Shields!? In the Clone Wars!?
Yes, there were clone troopers/driods who would equip a shield with their conventional weapon. These troops act much like ours today, blocking fire and providing as a disposable cover for your mates to crouch behind. A shielder can look different from other troopers/driods due to their distinct helmets/armour (they can still pick standard armour). Their only goal in life is dedicated to defending anyone on their team from the wrath of the enemy; be it a a trooper, the random driod, or even a Jedi/Sith. Shielders can also be used to intimidate a target by advancing forward in a column.

YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO USE BOTH A GUN AND A SHIELD IN BEAR FORCE II

The code of being an ideal Shielder.
Being a Shielder is very simple, and there are a few rules/helpful tips that you need to know.

1: Probably one of the most important rules. Shielders are never, under ANY circumstances to run away from the battle (in open terrain) if teammates are huddled up behind you! If you run away.... you will leave your mates defenseless and they will succumb to the blaster fire/lightsaber strikes quickly! This will make you look like a coward and people will hate you!

2: Protecting your teammates by being in front of them is very important, and sometimes over the din of battle you can't protect everyone. So it is important to pick someplace that everyone can stand behind you and you being safe.

3: Team up with other Shielders! Form up a Hoplite-like Shield wall and stay put no matter what!

4: Your shield will break eventually! When the icon of your shield on the HUD represents a chipped one, start retreating! You don't want your shield breaking off in the middle of the battle!

5: As a Shielder, it is always best if you remain brave, stoic and silent. Use the team chat key to signal other Shielders to form up a plan/formation!

6: Prioritise groups over single troops out in the open! However, if multiple Shielders are protecting the said group already....
THEN GET OUT THERE AND GET THAT GUY TO SAFETY!

7: Jedi/Sith are already able to block blaster fire, but having a shield with them can be very useful to act as a distraction and prevent those sneaky bastards who shoot from the side or back. This is where positioning becomes very important!

8: DO NOT FIGHT A JEDI/SITH BY YOURSELF! Even having a vibro blade will get yourself slain. Blocking only with your shield and moving back fast can hopefully attract the attention of your mates who might be nearby. They can then fire on the baddie.

8.5: The lightsaber swings will not kill you if you are holding your shield, but it will damage and eventually break the shield after 10 or so strikes (much like in Native with a sword hitting a iron-wooden shield).

9: Sacrificing yourself to protect even a few troops will bring you great honour and respect!

10: It ain't bein' cheesy... and that you must remember that you are not trying to get fame for being a Shielder..because that will automatically come later. :>

These are the basic rules to Shielding.
Ok. What about my loadout?
Pick the "Clone Trooper" in the unit selection menu. That is where you can equip a shield!

Your loadout must ALWAYS contain a shield and a weapon to help defend yourself! It is a good idea to bring a melee weapon with you to defend in close quarters....your choice really!

The weapon can be of any choice that suits your playstyle! I always bring a shotgun due to me experiencing a lot of close-quarters action as well as it's great for backstrafing in the tunnels of Hoth!

It's a good idea to have heavy armour to withstand more shots. Survival is really important as a Shielder!

Bring a power pack if you like shooting alot :)

The Shielder in Action!
A collection of various screenshots depicting virtual footage of a combat-ready Shielder. I don't know why exactly...but most of the moments I found were on Hoth :/

Providing ample cover for a sniper during a last stand.

A Shielder can ideally cover a squad (4) of troops.

Remember that the enemy can use your tactic as well! (Thankfully the snipers took them out).

Following rule 6 about helping out a soldier in the open (who otherwise would have died).
Having a strong visible Shield wall will greatly increase the morale of your mates.

Just make sure that they don't stay behind too much or they will get headshotted.

A jedi/sith can also be used as a shield, deflecting more shots.

2 more ideal situations to Shield.
20(ish) seconds later...

Even force lightning doesn't cripple us!

May the force be with you...
Always remember that you are a support character! You are not there to kill, only to protect lives! Of course you are free to kill when in an emergency. Some people find shielders annoying because of the amount of blaster fire needed to down one...just remember that the Shield only protects the front..

Always try to make a good impression on all players alike by being respectful so that the community can respect your efforts and bring glory to the name of the Shielder!
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY HATE A SHIELDER CAN GET FOR THE ROGUE SHIELDERS ARE SCUM AND MUST BE WIPED AWAY FROM THE GALAXY!

Anyway, thanks for reading this guide! I hope it helped you in some way or form.
If you want to find me in the game....just search for a random but certain Gunslinging Gazpacho...

@Alex When your shield gets hit..your character will put it down for a spilt second as a reaction. When this happens..enemies can take advantage of you and shoot your vulnerable parts. For me this does happen...but after some practice it is possible to get damaged very rarely in normal situations. They like to aim for you head/legs most of the time.

yes but why you can get damaged while blocking with a shield?
