Gaulen of All Trades

Description
Support for this Mod has been discontinued. The Modding tools are honestly severly limited in the way that errors can't really be easily found if there are any, and fixing them is a nightmare. Thanks for your support up until this point.

Gaulen: Herald, Explorer, Everyman

As a Herald of Golot whose purpose is to save the world Gaulen seems rather limited in what he's actually able to do. This is especially frustrating since you are unable to change his class in character creation. While his Explorer only skills are useful, only by min-maxing can you really get any benefit from them and usually the best benefit is by skill level 30. Plus, most guides seem to turn him into a flower picking meat shield, and this seems a great disservice to the main character in the game. I aim to change that.

What the Heck Does it Do?

I've reduced the costs of his Explorer Only skills to 1 per skill level, and allowed him to train in every other available skill for the price the class with the lowest skill level cost pays. In this way, he won't be skill-starved by training in the useful skills you want from the Explorer, but also gives a bit of freedom of character creation and evolution into something different. This also opens up party configurations that were otherwise unadvisable to create (one with no Cleric or Paladin, for instance).

To keep things interesting, I am increasing the cost of any skill that requires level 30 to 2+Minimum. The reason is twofold: It prevents anyone from creating a god-like Gaulen, and it keeps the classes who were designed to have access to those powerful skills relevant.

Example: Requiem for the Bard class costs 3 skill points per level. For Gaulen it costs 5.

Also, I've increased the cost of Summoning Heralds by 1 across the board for Gaulen. I'm a big fan of the DS class, and didn't want to just toss them completely to the wayside, as it seems they would probably be the easiest class to replace ;)

What Does it Do Poorly?

Unfortunately, the way the LoX Editor handles certain things is very cut and dry what you can and cannot edit. If I want Gaulen to have access to learning all weapons at the start, I either have to give him one skill point in them all, or unlock them for all classes who can train in them. I opted for the later, allowing Gaulen one free skill point in all weapon classes to allow the player to select which weapon path to set him on. The exception is Shurikens.

What the Heck Does it NOT Do?

I've ONLY allowed Gaulen access to all the skills of the other classes. I've not adjusted experience growth for any encounters, food consumption, or difficulty in any way shape or form. If people enjoy this mod I will release others where I do those sorts of things, or adjust other classes starting equipment, skills, etc.to better fit what I think would be proper for a game of this type.

Also, I've done nothing to adjust the +1 cost for learning a new skill for the very first time.

Known Issues

Nothing game-breaking so far, but one known issue is that since the game gives our skill books randomly, and based on what your party can learn, you may get skill books for skills that you don't have or want simply because Gaulen could learn it.

Can I Use This on an Existing Save?

Yes! I've tested it and the only thing you won't have is access to other weapon paths (except Shurikens). The way I did the other weapon paths means they are only added to the character when he is first created.

Enjoy!

interesting mod, though gaulen's exploration skills are too important to skip, no point for other skills.

The "no UI in combat" bug happens if you have too many different classes of action skills - i think more than 5 and it bugs out

I have no idea how that could have happened. I'm guessing it has something to do with the limitations with the mod tools themselves (we're really only changing values in a spreadsheet). I'm sorry that happened, but I have no idea how to fix it.

Really amazing mod... until it broke my game. First, on Gaulen's turns, there's no UI, no actionbar, and he can't attack unless I hit a hotkey previously assigned before this happened.

Now, the saved game is completely corrupted and won't load at all :(

Ok, it looks like the only way I can do this to send out a copy that will NOT have the same Steam ID is to redo the entire mod but as a new file. If you're willing to wait a few days I may be able to get this done.

Yeah, the GOG version comes with the ability to load mods. I test created a mod and it works. It would be great if workshop artists have direct download for GOG users as well!

Does the GOG version come with the editor? Or the ability to load mods? If not, there's not a whole lot I can do. If it does, however, I may be able to directly get you the files.

Hello. I have the GOG version, is there a way to make this mod be available for download?
