Why is finishing Genocide Route bad?
The Genocide Route is all about gaining LOVE and EXP. LOVE is an acronym for "Level of Violence". EXP is an acronym for "Execution Points". With enough LOVE and EXP, you will always be at LV 20 near the end of the Genocide Route. At the end of the Genocide Route, you will encounter a certain fallen human, Chara. Chara will give you 2 choices. The choices are:

◦If you want to "erase" the world, thus destroying it.
◦If you "do not" want to destroy the world.

Either option, the world will be destroyed and you will be forced to give your SOUL to Chara, changing the Pacifist Route ending for the worst.

This guide will make sure that you do not sell your SOUL to Chara, or even meet Chara in the first place. This guide will also make sure that the Pacifist Route ending will always be normal!

These are the options that Chara offers you. It is unfortunately a trap.

Steam Cloud and Undertale-related files.
2 Undertale files can be stored into Steam Cloud! When you choose an option Chara offers you, the game will crash, and the MOMENT the game crashes, a file called "system_information_962" will be created and will be stored into Steam Cloud. After selling your SOUL to Chara, there will be another file called "system_information_963" that will also be created and stored into Steam Cloud. These 2 files are the ONLY files that are stored into Steam Cloud.

"system_information_962" makes it so that you have to give your SOUL to Chara. "system_information_963" makes it so that the Pacifist Route ending will be changed.

Steam Cloud.

Method 1: The "MERCY" option.
Now that Steam Cloud and it's Undertale-related files have been explained, and why fully completing the Genocide Route is bad, here is the first method that you can use to avoid the Genocide Route results!

This first method is very easy to do as it can be done during most of the Genocide Route. If you select the "MERCY" option in a battle, you can spare any monster(s). You can also flee from any monster(s), too. If you spare and/or flee from any monster(s), make sure you do not exhaust the amount of monsters that need to be defeated. For example, you need to defeat 16 monsters in Snowdin in order to continue the Genocide Route.

You can spare a monster via the "MERCY" option and choosing "*Spare".
You can flee from a monster via the "MERCY" option and choosing "*Flee".
The "MERCY" option in a battle.

The "*Spare" and "*Flee" options in a battle

HOWEVER, you CANNOT spare:

◦ Undyne the Undying.
◦ Mettaton NEO.
◦ Sans.

SERIOUSLY, DON'T SPARE SANS! If you do so, you will GET DUNKED ON.

"geeettttttt dunked on!!!"
Method 2: Sparing Toriel.
This is your first major chance to avoid the Genocide Route results. Upon sparing Toriel, you will be on the Neutral Route.

"*Toriel blocks the way!"
Method 3: Sparing Papyrus.
While doing the Genocide Route, you are given another major chance to move on to the Neutral Route if you choose to do so. Just before Waterfall, you will encounter THE GREAT PAPYRUS! What is different in the Genocide Route compared to the Neutral Route and the Pacifist Route is that Papyrus chooses to spare you straight away. Upon sparing him, Sans will thank you for not defeating Papyrus. By doing so, you would have avoided the Genocide Route results and moved towards the Neutral Route.

If you have successfully pulled off the Genocide Route by this point, Papyrus will spare you straight away.
Method 4: Sparing the Glad Dummy.
When you encounter the Mad Dummy in Waterfall, they will be able to become one with their physical body, the dummy. Because of this, the Mad Dummy becomes the Glad Dummy, and you will be able to spare them. Upon doing so, not only will you be on the Neutral Route, but the Glad Dummy will also hang out at Undyne's House.

The Glad Dummy.
Method 5: Sparing the Monster Kid.
When a battle is initiated with the Monster Kid, if you spare the Monster Kid, you will move on to the Neutral Route. Because of this, you will battle Undyne a bit later.

The Monster Kid.
Method 6: Sparing Muffet.
This is one of the last major chances to avoid the Genocide Route results. Along the way, you will encounter Muffet. If you choose to spare Muffet, the rest of your journey will be along the path of the Neutral Route.

Muffet.
Method 7: Holding back on Mettaton NEO.
This method is a bit complicated compared to the other methods. Before the battle against Mettaton NEO, you must not increase your EXP and/or LOVE via ALL 40 monsters in Hotland and Core. You may increase your EXP and/or LOVE if you choose to do so, but make sure it is not via 40 monsters in Hotland and Core. As mentioned, there are 40 monsters in Hotland and Core altogether. If you do hit Mettaton NEO at full force by gaining enough EXP and/or LOVE, you will still be on the Genocide Route.

"*Mettaton NEO blocks the way!"
Method 8: SAVE Points.
If your last SAVE Point is at a point where 40 monsters in Hotland/Core have not been defeated, then by going to your previous SAVE Point (depending on where your last SAVE Point is), you can go on the Neutral Route by:

Sparing any monster(s).
Sparing Toriel.
Sparing Papyrus.
Sparing the Glad Dummy.
Sparing the Monster Kid.
Sparing Muffet.
◦Holding back on Mettaton NEO.

A SAVE Point.
Method 9: Resetting.
In my opinion, this is the best way to avoid the results of finishing the Genocide Route; not only can you get most of the Genocide Route experience, but you won't need to choose an option Chara offers you, or even meet Chara in the first place. This method can be pulled off at ANY time during the Genocide Route. I recommend resetting after beating Sans, before entering the Throne Room.

You MAY enter the Throne Room and proceed with the following events, but when you talk to Chara, don't select any options Chara offers you. Instead, you may exit the game via other means, like Task Manager, as quitting the game by pressing and holding the ESC key is not an option at that point.

To be extra safe, you should reset before entering the Throne Room, anyway.

The Throne Room.
EXTRA TIP.
Congratulations! If you have pulled off ANY of these methods, you should no longer be on the path of the Genocide Route.

As an extra tip:

The things that the monsters say may change throughout the rest of the Neutral Route, or whatever you do, especially after a normal reset. In order to change EVERYTHING back to normal. Do the Pacifist Route and True Reset. Everything will then be completely rewritten.
