This is a guide for players who wish to play AION via Steam without needing to re-download the client. The following steps will explain how you can copy or move the client into the Steam Library.

Important: The NCLauncher only updates one client installation! After installation using Steam, each update via the NCLauncher will only update the Steam client, as both installs have the same Registry key (AION-LIVE) in order to find the client installation path.

Preparation

(The entire process requires approximately one to one and a half hours, depending on the speed of the hard disk.)

• Log out/close the Steam client. Do not install AION Free-to-Play! If you have already started this, simply delete the local files from Steam.
  
• Preparing the target directory:

1. Search for the ‘steamapps’ folder (the steamapps folder is located in the main Steam folder).
   
2. Set up the path “common\AION\Client”.
   
   

Copying/moving client files

• Copy/move the existing AION Client into the Steam ‘Client’ directory:

1. Depending on your hard drive, this may take up to 30 minutes.
   
2. Search for the NCLauncher path: right-click on the AION icon on your desktop and select ‘Open file location’ in the context menu.
   
3. Copy/move all files in the launcher folder excluding the NCLauncher.ini into the AION folder under the steamapps directory (steamapps\common\AION\).
   
   

Searching for the AION Client path

• Open the Registry (Start Menu -> Run -> enter ‘regedit.exe’), search for ‘AION-LIVE’ (to open the search, press F3). In the Registry key AION-LIVE, you will find the ‘BaseDir’. This will then show you the installation path of the AION Client.
  
  

• Go to this installation path and copy/move all files and folders into the Steam folder (steamapps\common\AION\Client).
  
  

Client installation and check

• Log in to Steam and install AION Free-to-Play. Steam will then check for existing files, which can take up to 30 minutes. Afterwards Steam will download any missing or changed files. If this step seems to be taking too long, pause and continue the Steam download. • Start AION using Steam. Please ensure that the NCLauncher has the correct settings (e.g. new installation path, desired game language etc.). The NCLauncher will then update to the latest version of AION.
