How to shoot accurately in Rainbow Six: Siege

This guide will be over the shooting aspect of Rainbow Six: Siege.

As I mature inside the game and find out consistent patterns, I learn to become more efficient in-game. This tutorial leaves the teamwork behind other tutorials (there are guys who, in my opinion, nailed it, and you should go and read their tutorials, too), as well as configuration aspects and dealing with bugZ/crasheZ. This tutorial is only about the most efficient ways to kill an enemy with every weapon.

Introduction
Shooting in RS:S sucks. Like really sucks. You can aim down the scope, your helmet (if your op has one) never saves you, the recoil is all over the place, and shotguns are OP. Especially the Russian one, the one that you can put a suppressor on.

However, the longer you play, the more you notice that there are certain playstyles MM players use, and they get more kills than the others. Peeking, timing, even reloading - seems like they're picking out just the right moment.

If you're dreaming about making this game your eSport, then it's about time to get known with the guns, how to use them to your advantage, and how their correct usage will improve your competitive rank/reputation.
Hip-fire and ADS
Stand against a wall and take a shot. Wait a second, and take another one. Repeat this five more times. Now you know how accurate the first shot in hip-fire looks like. As you can see, the shots are grouping very far away from one another. I've spent all AR33 ammo in that cement block, and this is what it does:



This grouping is consistent between all automatic rifles, pistols, and SMGs. The only two attachments that improve accuracy here are the laser sight, that improves accuracy by 50%



and suppressor with 10%.




I've found that vertical grip, compensator, and flash hider do not impact the first shot accuracy while hip-firing.

Now, the whole story changes when you aim down sights. Apparently, this game has 100% ADS accuracy. If you repeat the whole procedure, you'll see that the bullets go into one place.


Well ain't that amazing.



Now you might ask: "NoobZMaster that's just the first shot, the spray actually takes skill to master, right?"

And the answer is nope.

Hip-fire spray has 200% random spread (compared to first-shot 100% random), the recoil is vertical, and the only "skill" parameter is if you can pull down the mouse/analog stick correctly.

Unlike Counter-Strike, where mastering of the recoil pattern was a great proof of skilled marksmanship, here it is more about trigger discipline. The amount of recoil (how far up the gun goes) is the same for all automatic weapons, the only difference being DPS and RPM (damage-per-second and rounds-per-minute). As you can see, controlling the spray is really easy and you can with just one subtle movement dump 30 bullets into someone. Considering that with operators like Thatcher you get a ton of ammo with you, I'd suggest to spray down window and door barricades at the beginning of the round with this operator. It will both prevent defenders from trying to snipe you and open the window up for your friendly sniper.


Conclusion so far: aim the sights down and tap-fire for maximum accuracy, spray for suppressive fire at any range.

Movement and stances
Now here comes the stuff that's mainly imported from a game that's loved by most and loathed by many, the Counter-Strike. The skill to "be in the right spot at the right time in the right way". This section will require a lot of edits as the metagame evolves.

Movement

When you first press W or lean your LS forward, you are technically jogging. That's a rather fast way of moving around, and the amount of sound it makes is enough for you to get easily spotted by your enemy. However, you can fire your gun whenever you'd like.

Once you press Shift (or press down LS), you are sprinting ("double-time" in military slang). It gives you ability to go the fastest and the loudest. You cannot fire while sprinting. If you just tap your LMOUSE or RT, you'll see that your character just about slows down to jogging speed. If you hold down the aforementioned button, you'll see that your character slows down, rests his/her rifle to the shoulder, then takes a shot.

Then you have the more stealthy way of moving. The walking. It's bound by default to LeftAlt on keyboard, controller users will have to lean their LS about halfway, since controller's sticks lean values result in different movement speeds. When walking, you are almost completely silent, unless you walk on broken stuff like shattered glass or breached barricades.

Stances

Then come the three stances: stand, crouch (duck), and prone (laying on the ground). Standing is always preferred as it gives you the highest point of view (remember guys, higher ground is always an advantage as it's more difficult for the enemy to aim up than aim down), but with it comes the disadvantage of having the whole body fully exposed.

Crouching decreases your target area (how big of a target are you, hm?) by about 50%, but if you want to hit a standing player, you better aim up before you have to shoot as the standing players have the upper hand, or engage your target at a distance.

And for the most sneaky players, there is prone. This stance is more favoured by CoD players because of minimum vertical target area. Also, nobody shoots people laying on the ground :D
Technically, if you want to play dead, you go prone. I've seen a lot of players actually laying down on the corpses of their dead teammates and getting some nice kills by doing so.

Now let's talk about noise. First and foremost, there is no stance-movement combination that is absolutely silent, unless you are looking into one spot while staying completely still (any stance). If you look at least 90 degrees any other direction, you fumble. If you lean, you fumble. If you change stance, you fumble. Your uniform and gear, just like in real life, makes noises, and it takes skill to understand what noises in which situation cannot be heard.

  • Crouch-walking - it is less noisy than jogging, but makes noticeable noise from the room accross the corridor
  • Stand-walking - almost silent, can be heard only in dead silence
  • Crawling (moving while prone) - less noisy than jogging, but louder than crouch-walking

One has to be very careful when choosing his movement and stance, as the levels of background noise make a difference. For example, when Tachanka goes full-auto with his mounted gun, it's quite hard to hear somebody jogging. If Fuze just activated his cluster charge on a floor above or below you, no one is going to hear you sprinting to the flanking position.

Just read this after having Siege for three months on PC and didn't know that left alt makes you walk slower. Now I know how those Youtubers I watch get amazing angles on mouse and keyboard.

The recoil in siege is not bad... It was designed so that controller using console players could handle it. Most of the guns are actually too easy to control. I mean Twitch's famas is the hardest hitting AR in the game and the recoil just goes up in a straight line that can be countered by slowly dragging the mouse downward lmao
