Dice cards

Description
No more rolling dice, just shuffle the deck and draw a card, or don't, just flip over the deck. In fact, don't flip it over, keep it all face up and shuffle to get a random number every time. For other games, use only 1-6 and deal a number of cards and only draw new ones after you played them all, that way you have slightly more control over the rolls than a die ever could.

I see definitely a purpose for dice cards when it comes to dice with an odd amount of faces. With real dice you can most of the time only use drum/cylinder shaped dice to make odd numbered dice actually fair . With cards you just chose the max number and "roll" with it. It is like constructing dice on demand, though i like of course the shape of volumetric dice more because they look magical and rad. :)

Thanks for this.

It actually can work for games with a greater number of dice, simply duplicate the deck and you have another die, whether on top of the other or in a separate pile. There's a 0 card so it's possible to draw a 100 sided die.

Play nice. I can see where the author is coming from. While it doesn't work for games that require a large amount of dice, it can totally work in a situation where you need only one die rolled often or easily. It would definitely be nice for lower-quality systems, since you can even just take the deck, flip it upside down, and shuffle it whenever you need to "roll" it.

@404: Dice are too random at times, at other times it's faster to draw cards than to roll a die. Maybe not in reality, but in this game shuffling is just pressing r.
