Bunny Hop, also called BHop is a Team Fortress 2 server mod. Multiple versions of this mod exist with the earliest publicly known one dating back to April 2011. At the time of recording this, there are approximately 40 servers running some form of this mod and 2 servers running Bunny Hop as a stand-alone mod-gamemode.

So what is Bunny Hop?

Bunny Hop is a mod that essentially allows players to benefit from performing bunny hops in Team Fortress 2.

Bunny hopping is an advanced movement technique in which players repeatedly chain jumps together which allows for a speed and manoeuvrability benefit over running. The act of bunny hopping dates back to early 3D games and certain first-person shooters such as Quake. It’s worth noting that Team Fortress Classic had bunny hopping as an important aspect of gameplay. Early in the development of Team Fortress 2 the decision was made to limit the benefits of bunny hopping. Basically by default there there’s no movement-speed acceleration, and that’s where bunny hop mods come in. They replace the lost benefits.

Bunny Hop mods are primarily on servers as background support mods. As an example this is their roll on surf servers. There are however stand-alone Bunny Hop servers. On these severs players use the gameplay mechanics of bunny hopping to overcome obstacle courses. It demands on the server and map but theses servers may put an on screen speed indicator, disable certain weapons to prevent cheating and even have time trials.

To perform bunny hops on bunny hop servers, jump repeatedly. Some servers allow players to simply hold down the jump key. Now perform strafe jumps. Strafe jumps are done by turning the camera in the desired direction of left or right while simultaneously holding down the strafe key in the same direction. By default a person wishing to strife jump right, for example would press D and move their mouse right. Bunny hops are preformed by chaining together strafe jumps.

And that’s basically Bunny Hop in a nutshell. A server mod that adds a retro gamplay mechanics to Team Fortress 2. Thanks for watching. Like if you enjoyed or learned something new and subscribe for more videos like this one. Au revoir.
