rFactor 2 Quick Guide: Using "Resume From Replay" as a Save Game
By Chris
This Quick Guide shows how to use “Resume From Replay” as a save game in rFactor 2. This allows you to stop a session (in Practice, Qualifying, or Race) and resume your session at a later time.

1. Start a Session
The “Resume From Replay” feature can be used to stop an active session (in Practice, Qualifying, or Race) and later resume that session.

This Quick Guide uses a 25-lap race session as an example.
  • Open rFactor 2 in Single Player mode.

  • Select the track you want to race.
(We recommend using RaceEvents to set up a series in single player mode. Instructions on how to use RaceEvents in Single Player mode are available in this steam guide.)

  • Click on RACE.

2. Choose a Stopping Point
The LAPS column in the monitor window shows the total number of race laps as well as the number of laps completed.

In this example, we are actively racing in a session and want to stop in lap 10 to resume the race from the same lap at a later time.

To stop a session in progress, press ESC on your keyboard while on track.

Important! To resume the race smoothly, it is best to stop the session at the beginning of a straight and not while in traffic.

In your cockpit view, click Exit To Monitor.

Note that it will show you as DNFed in the PLAYER list. This is temporary and has no effect on resuming the race session.

Click LEAVE TRACK
3. Loading a Replay
To resume the session (in our case, the race) at a later time,
  • go to the main menu in rFactor 2
  • and click on OPTIONS.

In the next window,
  • click on the REPLAY tab.
Select the latest replay – by default, the most recent replay will be at the top of the list.
  • click PLAY REPLAY.

IMPORTANT! DO NOT click the big RACE button. This will start a new session instead of resuming your race.

4. Resuming Your Session
You are now in the replay screen.
  • Press INSERT on your keyboard to access your previous driving view (ex. cockpit).
  • Click on the orange slider (see image).
  • Move the slider all the way to the right.
  • Press SPACE BAR on the keyboard to pause the replay.

You should now be at the same spot at which you stopped previously.
If necessary, use the right/left arrow keys to forward/rewind by a few seconds.
Once you are in the correct spot,
  • click RESUME.

A popup dialog will ask you to Resume Session At Current Time As: (#) Your Name
  • Click ACCEPT

You will now be in the driving view of your car.

To jump back into the session, press P on your keyboard.
IMPORTANT! If you are using a steering wheel, make sure to keep one hand on the wheel while hitting P.

You are now back in the session, racing from the exact spot where you left off!
5. Additional Info
  • You can resume from any replay in the replay list - even online session replays, in this case real players from the server will continue as AI with the same names.

  • You can resume from any point in the replay. For example, to rejoin the race before a big incident or before you crashed your car.

Have fun and good luck all!

The Main Menu layout has been changed but the feature is still there in: Main Menu > Watch (replay saved profiles) > More...

There you can resume a race from any existing replay profile.

I'm trying to follow this in the Dec 2020 update and all the screens have changed.
I've got to where I want to restart, but can't find "Resume" button on replay screen, as in section 4.
And my Bluetooth keyboard doesn't have the INSERT key, whether that makes any real difference as I can get back to the driving view.
I'm pretty new at this.

Still not a huge rF2 fan, but this brings me one step closer. Thank you!

One of the many reasons why the UI desperately needs to be updated! A feature this cool should not be buried so deeply.

When I use Rf2 in replay resume, the temperature of the tires is at a minimum. Why???

GRACIAS!...

This is an unbelievable feature for those of us who wish to race the big endurance sessions in single player but who don't have the time to do it in a single session. I've had rF2 since before steam migration but have only just now discovered you can do this!

Nice feature, but unfortunately it isn't working for me. Replied to a thread that involves the same issue: https://forum.studio-397.com/index.php?threads/game-crashes-when-using-feature-resume-from-replay-build-880.46505/#post-868702

I desperately want this to work. Thanks in advance.

PS: I disabled ALL plugins just in case, but still no go.

Thank you for sharing this. This will completely change how I use RF2. Back to how I used to use GTR2!
