Introduction

Hello, human.
So, you've completed every single aspect of the game. You're done with everything. Genocide, Neutral, True Pacifist, you've literally seen it all. The dodging is getting easy, you know how to handle bullet patterns. Random encounters are shrugged off with ease. You could maybe even beat one or two bosses without having to get hit once!

Well, for those kind of people who just can't get enough of this game and for the mentally insane that want to REALLY have a bad time, this is what you are looking for!

The Challenge Mode

What is Challenge Mode? Challenge Mode is a bunch of community-made challenges designed for Undertale. They all vary in difficulty, from really easy ones to make your game a little tougher to absurd heights of determination. Some of these challenges shouldn't even be faced.

But that's not why you're here!

Here, me and my friends write down some tricky challenges that will sure let your blood boil. All of them have been completed by me before approval, to make sure they're viable and doable. Of course, me being the tryhard that I am I wouldn't be let down on any and all real challenges. Of course, you can give me challenges to do, too. If I really like your challenge, I will put it up here and give you credit for your work.

Before you go further, SPOILER ALERT! The following challenges may or may not have plot spoils and details of boss fights, end fights and lore. You have been warned.

The difficulty will be given in SOUL, Stadium of Ultimate Legend. It's a way of quantifying the amount of determination required to finish a challenge. A low level means it's a fun and odd quirk to have, while an extreme SOUL means high determination and lots of rage.

Nick's Challenge

"What a fitting title. You'd almost say you put real thought into it."
This is the first challenge, designed by a dude who could not stop saving. This was the challenge that initiated it all; Challenge Mode, and all that came after that. This was the first one with actual rules for the player who likes a fair challenge.
Stadium of Ultimate Legend: Hard

1. One should not die when playing. When you die, you have to quit the game and reset to your last save point. This includes boss fights which offer a resetting point or save point by dying.
   
2. You cannot use more than 2 food items per boss. This includes all bosses, even minibosses. like Sans in Genocide and Asriel in True Pacifist.
   
3. You cannot use items outside of a boss battle. If you are damaged by random encounters, you have to find a save point to restore your health.
   
4. You cannot switch out your original equipment, except for the cloudy glasses when really necessary . The glasses increase your INV, and barely raise your health so those are allowed. that's at least what the original maker wanted
   
5. The rest of the game should be played as normal. You can do a neutral run, a Genocide run or a True Pacifist run. It is recommended to do a True Pacifist run if you're having difficulties with the final Genocide boss.

Mystery's Demise

"You've gotta be kidding me."
That was my friend's initial reaction when I told him what I was going to do. This challenge is brutal. If you are inexperienced with the game this is impossible to beat.
Stadium of Ultimate Legend: Tryhard

1. No food items or health items. No items at all. You are stuck with what you have.
   
2. You can die as many times as you like. EXCEPTION: When fighting Asriel you have to fully reset the battle against him. That means quitting the game, and restart the battle from scratch. You can't continue after you died to Asriel in the same run, not even after refusing.
   
3. This challenge is purely for True Pacifist and Pacifist. You cannot do a neutral route with this, as the increased health gives you an advantage.
   
4. You're gonna need an anti stress ball after this.

Spider Pal

"Ahuhuhuhu...~ I thought you were someone who hated spiders~"
Spiders are your friends. So why not show your support by buying all the Spider Donuts you ever need, and never eat something else? This way you'll not only support the cause, but you'll also have a good feeling that you did mean something to them.
Stadium of Ultimate Legend: Medium

1. You can only use Spider foods and drinks as healing items. Any other form of food and/or healing is forbidden. However, if you are really stuck, you are able to use the Butterscotch Cinnamon Pie (because spiders adore craftsmanship) and the Abandoned Quiche. But only in dire situations.
   
2. You can use save points to fully heal yourself. You can even use beds to gain above your max HP.
   
3. You can use all other items.
   
   Advice: I'd recommend having the Apron and Frying pan set for hard battles, such as Mettaton and Asgore. As you don't need to get a True Pacifist or Genocide ending, a Neutral route should be the easiest way to complete this challenge.

Aaron's Workout

"OK! I won't lose though... ; )"
Aaron likes to work out. and so do we. So we made a challenge for you so you can do Aaron's Workout as well!
This challenge is designed by my good friend Tob. Hobbies: annoying me, putting insane challenges for me to complete and beating sans' opening sequence on the first try without getting hit. what. That being said, he's really freaking tough in this game.
He made this challenge as a fun break from all the try-hard stuff. This is just some fun feats to make your game a little bit more interesting.
Stadium of Ultimate Legend: Medium - Hard

1. Your items are after visiting Snowdin set to the Manly Bandana and the Tough Glove. These are the items you are going to wield during pretty much everything. It has abs on it.... ; )
   
2. You are allowed to buy any and all items. however, there are some items that cannot be used in battle. These items are terrible for your health, and that's not what a workout is all about!
   Disallowed items:
   Junk Food, Dog Salad, Cinnamon Bun, Bscotch Pie, any MTT-brand food, Spider food.
   All other items are allowed.
   
3. You are only allowed to use food items outside of battle. (credit to Super Guy for the idea.)
   
4. This run can be done in Neutral, Pacifist or Genocide. As it's just a little feat, Genocide is not recommended with this build.
   

A Mother's Wish

"Be good, won't you...?"
Aaaaargh. Every time Toriel wishes me luck in the Underground after finishing the RUINs I get heartache. No, not the song, but real heartache. She really wants you to be safe. The ribbon you found, plus the pie she gave you should totally help you in that cause.
Stadium of Ultimate Legend: Very Easy

1. Save the pie and Ribbon till the very end of your playthrough, then use both to fight the final boss.
   
2. You can also pick up the Abandoned Quiche and use that.
   
3. It is not necessary to have the ribbon constantly equipped, but if you like a nice challenge go ahead. [This changes SOUL to Medium - Easy]

The Easiest Challenge

"you shouldn't do this."


Impossible challenge. This is something that shouldn't be done, and maybe never will. I've tried to do it but the urge to save took me at Waterfall. I basically wasted an hour of gameplay purely by one mistake. It would take another six to complete this challenge.

EDIT1: I'll finish it another time in private without a stream and recording. The pain is bad enough to bear alone.

EDIT2: After a small doublecheck, all you'll get is this at the end of your playthrough, when sans calls you.

Stadium of Ultimate Legend: True Tryhard

1. No saving throughout the game.
   
2. IF YOU DIE IN THE GAME YOU HAVE TO START FROM SCRATCH. I found out that the game gives you checkpoints along the way if you die. That's cheating, because that basically means you saved. Therefore, if you die, you have to press escape, start with a new name from True Reset and do it all again. And remember: Cheating makes you fail the challenge!

Chara's Challenge

Credit to @no one watches your streams for making up this challenge and completing it!
This is the same challenge as the above, but with a twist. You can't spare anyone. That's right! You're going to kill everybody while not saving! So, if you died to sans or undyne, you have to restart from scratch! Good luck beating this one. All items are allowed.

So far, only a handful of people have completed this challenge.
Stadium of Ultimate Legend: True Tryhard

1. No saving throughout the game.
   
2. Has to be a Genocide run.

Batter's Child

"hhhhhh...."
The Batter is the playable character from OFF. He beats all kinds of monsters and spectre's with nothing more but a bat. And, of course, he does that so that when the monsters are defenseless, you stab them in the back.
The ending of the game, however, is split into two parts. One being that the batter is halted before destorying everything. What would happen if we did the same in Undertale?
This is a mode specially for a Neutral playthrough. You could do this, or you could do a full out Genocide run. Though this one is just one super difficult boss. And more fun.

If you have done a Genocide run before this is super easy.
Stadium of Ultimate Legend: Medium

1. Kill all monsters, even all boss monsters, like a normal Genocide playthrough. Spare Mettaton EX.

After you've done this, you'll get a weird neutral ending.

Stick With It

"If you like what you have, stick with it!"
At the beginning of the game, you have two items; a gross bandage and a stick. What if you never take them off? Fun guaranteed.
At the end of this playthrough, you'll get a neat little easter egg!
Stadium of Ultimate Legend: Medium

1. Never take off your Bandage and Stick. This means you can't switch out gear.

Undyne's Warface

"Be loud, rude, and beat up anyone in your way!"

As you might have guessed from the title and the qoute above, in this challenge, you will fight whoever you run into, and spare them when their health is low. BUT! There are exceptions that you must ACT through, otherwise you'll very likely end up killing them (or get yourself stuck there at one point) and thus fail the challenge (after all, this challenge is all about fighting and sparing whoever you run into, not kill them).

List of exceptions:
(AKA, use ACT or follow the instructions to avoid these, recommend you memorize this a bit)

• Whimsum (Will die in one hit).
  
• Napstablook (Can't feel pain or die twice).
  
• Toriel (Is likely to get killed by accident when her attacks loosen up.)
  
• Dogi (Won't give up).
  
• Jerry (Just ditch that guy).
  
• Papyrus (Won't give up, as a compromise, do not get captured once by him, otherwise, reset to your last save).
  
• Temmie (Too weak).
  
• Mad Dummy (Use his own attacks against him (let's just say that counts as hitting him)).
  
• Shyren (Relucant to fight, spare, or if you're crazy enough, play a concert!).
  
• Muffet (Throw your money at her, or just hope for the best).
  
• Undyne (Fight her until she starts losing it before fleeing).
  
• The Royal Guards (Won't give up).
  
• Mettaton (Make sure to blow his arms and legs off before getting the ratings up, otherwise reset to your last save).
  
• Im Sorry (Do not fight him).
  
• Asgore (Not an exception, but fight him without talking to him).
  
• Flowey (Whether you decide to spare him, or kill him, is up to you).
  
• Sans (If you're fighting him, then you're doing the challenge wrong).
  
• Amalgamates (Immune to any form of attack, just ACT through them).
  
• Asriel (He's completely immune to all attacks, so you might as well spare through this one completely).

To make things more interesting for this challenge, do not Flee ever (Undyne being an exception, as you have to flee from her to win against her).

Stadium of Ultimate Legend: Medium

1. Only fight and spare through the entire game, remember to read the exceptions list thoroughly to ensure you don't accidentially kill somebody in the process, otherwise follow the small instructions to make things more challenging. This is basically Pacifist route with a twist.
   
2. Do not Flee from any fight (Undyne being an exception as stated above).

Extra Feature!

It's been a while since I have updated this guide, so here's a small thing for those happening to come across this.
I have been busy with manipulating sound files and I found out that one theme from one of my favorite games of all time, Ace Attorney Investigations 2, fits extremely well as a fighting monsters theme.
Therefore I have taken the liberty to convert said theme to an .ogg and replace the fighting regular monsters theme to Pursuit ~ Wanting To Find the Truth:

This music is not owned by me, but by Capcom. But it is freely distributed so what the hell, why not?

All you have to do is move the download file to your Undertale directory under Steam/steamapps/common/Undertale and you're ready to go! To get the old theme back, you can just let Steam check the integrety of the cache of Undertale, and it shall be redownloaded.
