How to ACTUALLY get Fallout To Run

Having troubles launching Fallout 1? Try this!

Make it work!

This is how I have gotten Fallout to run on multiple devices.
I'm not 100% positive, but this seemed to help one instance of the "failed to initialize input device" bug, as well as the game just stopping at the launcher.

Navigate to the Steam directory for Fallout

-You can do this by right-clicking "Fallout" in your game library> "Local Files" tab> "Browse Local Files..."

-It should also just be under Program Files (x86)> Steam> steamapps> Common> Fallout

Run the patcher config

-Run f1_res_Config

-Make sure it's set to your native resolution

-Make sure Hi-Res patch is enabled

-There are a few other options you can mess with too (DirectX, Refresh Rate, etc.)



-Hit "Done" and try again.

(SPOILER WARNING) I got all the way to Vault 15 and the game gives me "The Instruction at x referenced memory at y. The Memory could not be read from." error. I don't know really anything about PC's so I have no clue what I'm doing. If anyone can help with it giving great detail as I am new to this, that would be awesome!

You could also try right clicking on the falloutwHR application file and select properties, followed by the Compatibility tab. Then in the Compatibility mode box check the Run this program in compatibility for: box and select the operating system from the list below it. Might work but I don't know which operating system you'd need, just experiment and you might find the right one.

What do you propose I change it to? It's helped some people so far, and that's about all I was going for. I'm not a programmer or free tech support. I just posted a guide on how to fix a few problems.
