Complete Guide to TerraTech v0.5.20 (Updated Dec. 24, 2015)
Autorstwa: alleine
This is a guide that will give new players some tips as well as experienced ones. There is also a list of known recipies for fabricators as well as a list of blocks and their properties. All corporations are detailed as well. Images in this guide are either my screenshots (you'll know which ones they are) or are from TerraTech's official site/devblog. I try to keep this updated, but I may fall behind due to school or not seeing updates.

Getting Started With TerraTech
When you launch TerraTech you will be greeted with a window that looks like this:
The monitor you select is, of course, the monitor the game window will open on and the screen resolution should be set to the selected monitor's native resolution. Graphics quality you may have to experiment with to get a framerate you like. The 'Windowed' checkbox will determine if the game is opened in a window or in fullscreen (at the moment the cursor is not locked to the window and the game works perfectly when tabbed out regardless of whether you use fullscreen or winodowed. Any performance chage is unknown). Unless you know excactly what you are doing, I don't reccomend messing with the input panel and I will not go into detail on it.
Overview of Game Modes
Once you hit play you will be greeted with the main menu. On the left is the news window which contains updates and announcements. The options menu will allow you to change the settings you had when you opened up the game as well as sound and a controls menu that can be understood. There are three gamemodes - Story, R&D Test Chamber, and Challenge. There are three challenges. In Racing challenge and Flying challenge you have to reach checkpoint as fast as possible with their only difference being that flying is done in the air isntead of on the ground. Sumo Showdown is a gamemode in which you and up to four friends battle with techs in an arena. The last one standing wins! Story mode is your standard TerraTech experience that we all know and love. Finally, R&D Test Chamber is a sort of testing mode for those who want to aid development or get a sneak peak into what is coming. It will also cause EXP blocks to spawn in story mode (you have to create a new save). Read more on R&D here! If you want to mess around with anything at all without gathering resources, I highly reccomend getting access to the R&D Test Chamber.
Getting Started in Story Mode: Tutorial
When you go to create a new story mode save, you will be greeted with this screen:The Twitter checkbox will allow the techs of other players to invade your world (I reccomend turning this on if you have a Twitter account. See [this] section for information on invasions). The seed tells the generation engine how to generate the world. You can enter your own or randomize it!

After pressing start you will be greeted with a short introduction to your situation and will then find your cab stranded on a planet with nobody to come and rescue you. The in-game tutorial should lead you through the very basics of the game. Make sure to visit all smoke pillars and I highly reccomend searching for the abandoned plane tech (Use shift to accelerate, 'a' and 'd' to roll to the left and right, 's' to tilt up, and 'w' to tilt down)! Also, look out for markers like the one on the right as they mark enemy techs. A similar, but grey icon marks trading posts and a similar, but blue icon marks friendly bases.
Getting Started in Story Mode: General Information
Once you have finished going through the tutorials, you may know what to do or you may need guidance. Regardless of which group you fall under, this section may provide some useful information. First of all, one of the first things you should do is create a small base to sell resources. Attatch a few conveyors in a chain on the end of a refinery and then line the conveyors in recievers. Make sure that the refinery is also attatched to a delivery cannon! When you drop off resources, they will automatically refine and then sell. This brings up the all important question: should you refine resources? If you can make an automatic refinery then of course you should! Refining takes longer and can be a pain if you don't have a large, automated system, but it does give you 2x the money when you sell. By the way, the only way to earn money (Block Bucks) is to sell resources. Once you have a refinery, feel free to grab some resources and improve upon your tech, or just go and explore! Enemy techs can have blocks on them that you have not encountered. Once you defeat a tech with a new block you can buy that block from a trading station or payload terminal. When exploring, do take care in where you go for the game gets harder as you move from the grassy hills to the dangerous land outside.
Buying Techs
Techs can be bought from the techs menu of any trading post or payload terminal. You may buy any techs you have published in challenge and in story.
The Many Biomes of TerraTech
Many is an exaggeration... there are only four. ///////The grassland contains fairly simple and slow GSO techs, the desert contains very quick Venture techs, the mountains contains tough and dangerous Geo Corp techs, and the salt flats contain dangerous GSO techs.///////

The Grasslands
The Grassland is the region you start off in and is the safest.
Enemies: This biome contains fairly simple GSO techs. Sometimes Venture techs and more powerful GSO ones will come from surrounding biomes.
Terrain: The terrain of the Grasslands is characterized by lots of hills covered in trees with the occasional group of rocks. The close proximity of some trees can make it hard to move around in very fast techs. You will find shroom trees, korubirch trees, and grassland rocks here.
Resources: The resources found within the grasslands include wood, luxite, plumbite, sap, rodite, titanite, erudite, oleite, and carbite.

The Desert
The Desert is the region jsut outside of any Grassland and is of medium difficulty.
Enemies: Venture techs lie waiting in the desert. The Desert can sometimes contain GSO techs and GeoCorp techs from surrounding biomes.
Terrain: The desert contains lots of sandy hills that can easily make fast techs uncontrollable. You will find desert rocks and cloud trees here.
Resources: In the Desert you will find many useful resources such as wood, sap, ignite, plumbite, rodite, luxite, carbite, and titanite.

The Mountains
The Mountains are mountainous regions of red rock littered with valuable resources if you can safely reach them.
Enemies: GeoCorp holds control over the mountains of the world. They defend the regions with huge techs designed for mining and defense. Of course, techs from nearby regions may manage to enter this region.
Terrain: The terrain of the Mountains is obviously mountainous. There are plenty of mountain rocks and salami trees in this region. Many of these rocks are rich with ore.
Resources: In the Mountains you will find a plethora of valuable resources including wood, sap, luxite, rodite, plumbite, oleite, carbite, and titanite. You can find every ore here (not every crystal, however).

The Salt Flats
The Salt Flats are barren regions in which little lives. This is of medium difficulty but lacks any fuel resources other than solar which could cause problems.
Enemies: The GSO patrols this region with more powerful techs than those of the Grasslands. Additionally, techs from surrounding regions may wander into the flats.
Terrain: The terrain of the Salt Flats is very flat and contains no trees or rocks. A perfect place to build or drive with absolute freedom.
Resources: In the Salt Flats you may find rock, rodite, and celestite.
All Corporations (Factions)
There are many factions/corporations in TerraTech. Many of them are currently non-existant, but this is what is known about them. This section quickly explains the pros and cons of using their technology and the dangers of their enemy techs. Italicized text is quoted directly from the TT Dev Diary[terratechgame.com] so that you can easily see it without digging through old posts (the quoted is from June 2014).

Implemented Corporations:
These are currently in game.

Galactic Survey Organization (GSO)
The Galactic Survey Organisation is the first corporation you will have access to. These blocks are tough, but basic and the enemies are usually of notable danger unless you have sheilds. This corporation is the most complete and the main corporation under development at the moment.
"GSO is a government department that was initially set-up to recruit offworld prospectors and get them set-up on alien planets and working to send resources back to Earth. However, since larger corporations have become involved and started to divert the resources that are sent back through their own companies (in exchange for better technology for the miners), the GSO has gone downhill. Its funding has been reduced to the point where it can only offer hand-me-down equipment to the prospectors it is supposed to be supplying, and it is far from being able to offer competitive, cutting edge technologies."

Venture
Venture is another corporation you can access fairly early on. The blocks provided by Venture are weak but light and make great planes and fast techs. These enemies are usually easy to kill when you can hit them, but they are very fast and near impossilbe to kill in large techs.
"Venture is a company that sold extreme sports equipment and organised huge motor sports events back on Earth. To Venture the intergalactic mining effort is just the next big adventure. It’s not so bothered about big weapons or efficient mining equipment. It’s more interested in speed, suspension and getting big air. It isn’t just selling buggies or dirtbikes, it is selling the wildest ride around."

Geo Corporation (GeoCorp)
GeoCorp blocks are harder to find as they require more travelling to get but they are worth the effort. These blocks make huge, tough techs perfect for mass resource collection - but be warned, when GeoCorp techs get big and heavy they can be slow.
"GeoCorp was initially a company that built industrial mining and construction vehicles. When it moved into the off world mining business it kept playing to its strengths and still offers the biggest, most powerful bits of machinery around – as long as you’re not interested in projectile weapons."

Unimplemented Corporations:
These were mentioned but aren't officialy in game yet. They may come evntually, but probably not until Payload has polished the first three.

Legion/Enclave
Legion, as it is called in the quoted post (an earlier post calls them the Enclave), makes creepy, life-like walkers run by AI. This group sounds very different than the others in terms of techs so I don't think we will get them any time soon.
"Legion is a strange dark-future cult. Like Space Junkers they are more of a loose collection of people following the same movement and aesthetic rather than a corporation in the traditional sense. It originally formed as virtual vigilantes in the early years of the internet, but has now morphed into a subculture of its own that prizes the creation of the best AI above all else."

Hawkeye PMC
Hawkeye is said to make angular military hardware with big guns.
"Hawkeye started out as a private military company, essentially mercenaries hired by governments and despots alike to do seriously dirty work. As Hawkeye grew it expanded out into arms manufacturing and sales too, levering the expert knowledge of its employees to offer the most efficient, no-nonsense tools for making warfare."

Space Junkers
These guys are all about scrapping leftover bits of techs and turning them into their own vehicles.
"Space Junkers is exceptional because it’s not really a corporation, it’s more of a loose collection of veteran prospectors who have decided that self sufficiency is what they want and have struck out on their own to stick it to ‘the man’."

Reticule Research
All that is currently known about Reticule is that they will have fantasic, futuristic weaponry once implemented.
"Reticule Research is an applied sciences research company, whose main focus is experimental weaponry. With the advent of off-world mining, the coy RR execs realised that they could cut their R&D costs if they simply offered up their dangerous prototype weapons to those freelance prospectors on the other side of the galaxy."

Better Future
Better Future will make great flying technology and energy weapons that will be less powerful then Reticule's.
"Better Future builds high end luxury futuristic vehicles. Its corporate philosophy is that form must always be as important (if not more so) than function. Although it might seem an odd choice to build off-world mining vehicles from their expensive technologies, the people that start using its products swear by them and will often refuse to use items made by anyone else."

Experiment Corporation (EXP)
This is the corporation that supplies many of the blocks in the R&D Test Chamber.

List of all Blocks and Recipies
Note: Speed for wheels is recorded using a tech with a GeoCorp long block, an EXP Speedometer, a GSO Comosnaut SAP Cab, a GSO Big Poppa Fuel Tank, and four wheels attatched. Speed for boosters uses a tech with two GeoCorp long blocks, an EXP Speedometer, a GSO Comosnaut SAP Cab, a GSO Big Poppa Fuel Tank, four GeoTech Workaday Wheels, and one booster. To calculate booster speed the speed of the vehicle when not using boosters is subtracted from the speed using boosters. If a speed is high on the test robot, the speed will be proportionatly high on any other vehicle.

Note: There are two GSO Receivers named 'GSO Reciever' in game. Here they have large and small in parentheses.

This section contains all blocks in game. Some of these are not in Story mode. EXP blocks at the end. Remeber that the AIs are not very clever - I do not reccommend using them (I may add an AI control section in the future).

Block
Description
EXP Speedometer
Tells you your tech's speed.
EXP Fireworks Launcher
Doesn't do anything at the moment, but the name makes it clear what it's for.
EXP Altimeter
Tells you your tech's height above sea level (in the R&D chamber that would be 330ft underground.

A REALLY fast and small wheel. 59 mph.
EXP Rugged Wheel
A large wheel that accelerates and decellerates very quicly. 35 mph.
EXP Alternator Conveyor
Sends half of the items it collects to the right and half to the left.
EXP Pip Machine Gun
Literally the ZK but with worse accuracy.
EXP Krusher Wheel
2x2 wheels similar to GeoCorp's Jaws Wheel. 26 mph.
EXP Plough
A small, 2 block wide plough. A lot easier to use that its 3 block wide counterpart in most situations.
EXP Girder Block
A 2x2x2 girder block. Similar to GeoCorp's girder, but half the size.
EXP HF Vibro Blade
Currently there is no way to turn it off or on (as far as I can tell), but if you drive at a tree with one the tree is annihilated. If you drive a a rock at the same speed, nothing will happen. It just makes it very easy to knock down trees.
EXP Picker Tractor Pad
As far as I can tell, it behaves exactly like any other 2x2 tractor pad. Since I probably overlooked something, tell me if you know how these differ.
EXP One-Scoop Claw
It's just the GeoCorp Two-Scoop Loader, but half the size.
GSO Static Furnace Generator
A larger and static version of the GSO generator. This one is listed under experimental blocks, but is branded to be GSO.
Tips and Tricks
This section will try and help you out with the game and to avoid bugs from destroying you. If you have a tip for me to put here, just comment it.
  • Resources inside of techs are annoying. They slow you down, cause you to flip, and are just annoying all over to be honest. If this ever happens to you, just drive up to some recievers attatched to a refinery or anything else that processes/sells blocks.
  • Make a mass refinery! Making a giant, automatic refinery early on will help you earn block bucks quickly.
  • Big wheels = no getting stuck. GeoCorp wheels lift you high off the ground and prevent you from getting stuck. Use large wheels if possible!
  • Always have defense even if you are a mining tech. All techs need guns and/or shields. I reccomend a combination of shields and healing bubbles on GeoCorp miners.
  • Know your limits and don't attack enemies that are much more powerful than you!
  • The best way to unlock blocks is by exploring! You will unlock blocks as you defeat techs with them.
  • Have storage on your techs. Even if you have a purely offensive tech, you may want to be able to collect loot.
  • Generators are the key to survival! Sure you can haul around a solar panel to recharge your batteries, but generators will supply constant power and work wonderfully with some oleite to keep them full.
  • Bigger isn't always better... Sometimes techs get too big and will constantly get stuck on terrain. Don't be too long or wide - even GeoCorp wheels won't save you all of the time.
  • You can earn more money if you sell an object's components. Typically blocks made from refined resources sell for less than their components, but blocks made from unrefined resources sell for more than their components (Thank you Retnemmoc and Zappy!). Refer to the tables above if you want to check the prices (Crtl + f will help).
  • Piracy is key - hunting enemy techs is very rewarding and will unlock new blocks!
  • Hills are your enemy. If your tech is too wide or too long it will easily bottom out and become stuck. This can still happen with GeoCorp techs in the mountains!
Have Fun in TerraTech!
Thank you for taking some time to read my guide! I hope that you found this guide helpful even if you are just an experienced player looking for some crafting recipies. Likewise, if you think I should add something to the guide, know a price or recipie I don't, or have a tip for the tips and tricks section, tell me in the comments! Also, I would like to mention how to get the special blocks but don't know enough about where to find them - help would be appreciated! I hope you have a great time annihilating early access level AI and building amazing techs.
