Introduction
Blue Magic is a Magic skillset in Final Fantasy V. It is the special ability of the Blue Mage, and was the first entry of the Final Fantasy to use magic learned from enemies.

Blue Magic comes in a variety of different forms, from offensive spells to positive enhancements. Some of the most useful spells are Blue Magic.
Blue Magic mechanics
The character must be hit by the Blue Magic spell either as a Blue Mage or with the Learning ability equipped while in another job to learn the spell. Only one member is required to learn a specific spell for it to be used by the others. Some enemies never normally use the Blue Magic onto the party and must be made to do so to learn it. The Blue Mage need not live through the attack to learn it, so long as another member of the party finishes the battle alive.

Blue Magic is the only school of magic that cannot be Dualcast. Unlike other type of magic, Blue Magic is not disabled if the user is silenced.

Damage is capped at 9999.

The Blue Magic skillset gives characters the Blue Mage's base Magic unless otherwise already at a higher value.

Upon mastery, Freelancers and Mimes gain the Blue Mage's base Agility, Stamina and Magic unless they already have a higher base from another mastered job.
List of Spells
All enemy names in italics are enemies that must be controlled by a Beastmaster and "forced" to attack for the Blue Mage to be able to learn the skill from them, or be confused into casting spells onto the Blue Mage (only applicable to self-helping skills, or in certain cases, with the help of Reflect). All enemy names in bold are enemies that must be given MP to use Blue Magic.

Note:
The spells are listed in the order you can obtain them at their earliest, not according to the in-game list. As for the enemies you can learn them from first, you'll see it when you encounter them (I'm too lazy to go and check the locations of every enemy).

Goblin Punch - Level 4 Graviga can all be obtained in the First World.
Time Slip - Doom can all be obtained in the Second World.
Mind Blast, Roulette and Mighty Guard can only be obtained in the Merged World.

Ah yeah, I forgot it's very much possible at that point to Mix Dragon Armor for Reflect. I personally don't bother too much with Mix outside of a few niche cases at that point in the game or until I'm ready for my endgame setup, since the game is easy enough as it is.

@Shan It's great info tbh. I just grinded Chemist for like 20 minutes to mix a Reflect item/spell, Julius Caesar'd my guy Bartz to keep him at 25 and ended up learning it anyway. Wouldn't have known without guides like this and had a much more fun because of it so thank you!

@Redshreds
That's because, while Level Tricker has Level 5 Death in its Control moveset, Level 5 Death can not be cast on your party as a controlled enemy technically counts as a party member while controlled. This is a troll and you have to find a different enemy to learn Level 5 Death from, the only Blue Magic spells you can learn from Level Tricker are Level 4 Graviga and Level 2 Old, I don't know why exactly I kept Level Tricker on the Level 5 Death list and it may have been an oversight at the time of writing.

Have a 25/26/26/26 party in World 2, immune to every Level Tricker attack except Death, and they simply won't cast it on me even with Control.

@The Trippy Pyro (MPH! MPH! MPH!) I think it has to connect if I remember correctly. I don't really use Blue Mage that much anyways because it's such a waste of time and quite useless for the most part in my opinion. There are jobs that are just so much better like the Mime Knight, even though you don't get that until late game. Of the mages though, Black, White, and Red are much better than Blue. Blue Mage are essentially just weaker knights that can learn the abilities and magic used by monsters. That's it. They're just a knight knock off that can mock the enemies of the game.

does the attack have to connect to register? or can the spell miss you and still learn it?

Thanks a lot.

Moon Flute's description is: Inflicts Berserk on all allies.

But when the enemy used it, it put beserk on me. Should it say:

"...on all enemies?"

Some people were dismissing the usefulness of Blue Magic in other forums, but between Mighty Guard, White Wind, 1000 Needles (early game), off guard and similar you could use it even end game with great efficiency.

I still don´t know how I did it. But Against NEO SHINRYU! My goblin punch was mostly hitting and doing 9k damage per hit! And it was even not affected by his party Mute spell (unsure if due to some weird equipment blocking it).

Thanks for making such a great guide!
