Icarus Fell M4A1-S Guide

This is a guide meant to help CS GO players understand more about the Icarus Fell pattern.

Intro

The Icarus Fell M4A1-S was released in the Gods and Monsters Collection on May 26, 2015.

This guide was made in order to show others the various patterns that can be found on the Icarus Fell M4.

This is not a price guide. The skin is relatively new and the members of the CSGO community are ultimately the ones who decide whether a skin has value.

The Story of Icarus in Brief

The story of Icarus in ancient Greek mythology:

Daedalus was the father of Icarus, and was known as a very talented craftsman. Daedalus built two sets of wings made out of wax and feathers (one for him, and one for his son). Daedalus warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, or the wax would melt and the wings would come apart. Icarus took flight with his father's creation, and was so enamored with the new wings that he did not pay attention to what his father had said. Icarus flew too close to the sun, and the wax began to melt. This caused the wings to come apart. Icarus fell into the sea, where he ultimately drowned.

The Design Pallette

The Base VTF file of the Icarus Fell M4A1-S is made up of 3 unique parts which directly connect to the Greek myth of Icarus:

• The sun
  
• Feathers
  
• Melted wax

Exterior Wear & Float Value

The exterior wear is similar to that of the M4A1-S Knight and the M4A1-S Hot Rod in that it only has two kinds of exterior wear: factory new and minimal wear. Factory new is more common than minimal wear, making minimal wear more "rare", but with more scratches and chips on the skin.

Along with the factory new and minimal wear exteriors, the float value is limited from 0.00 (the absolute best float value) to 0.10 (the worst float value).

The List of Patterns

Many people think that the number of patterns is only in the single digits. If fact, there are over 20 different designs. Many of the designs look very similar and should be compared to the below photos to determine the design.

Below is a list of most (not all) of the patterns that exist for the Icarus Fell M4A1-S. Although this has not been confirmed, the patterns don't appear to be random. Instead the pattern seems to move across the M4 body horizontally.

Bright Patterns vs Dark Patterns

One of the most interesting aspects of the Icarus Fell is that the color schemes change depending on the placement of the sun, melted wax, and feathers.

On one side you have the the bright colors, which have the Icarus motif on the body of the gun, but are more common. On the other side you have the dark patterns, which are more rare (only around 5 out of the 25 patterns) but don't have the Icarus motif on the main body of the gun. It's up to you what design you like best!



Players should decide which pattern they prefer on the gun before buying, as some players may prefer a certain look.







Other sections that may appeal to buyers are patterns that appear on other parts of the gun besides the body of the M4. These areas include the stock, the handle, the hand guard, the suppressor, the magazine, and even the front sight.

The Brightest Icarus Patterns

The patterns of these skins consistently cover up the body of the M4A1-S with the a specific portion of the main motif (the sun, feathers, and melted wax). Parts of the Icarus motif cover up the dark spots better than others.

The sun is the only part of the motif which has a thick, bright color and offers the best coverage over the dark areas on the M4 body. Second are the feathers, which offers slightly less coverage to the dark areas. Lastly is the melted wax, which offers the least amount of coverage to the dark areas but still offers an interesting pattern.




Bright Pattern #1
This pattern allows the sun to completely cover the magazine well. The feathers branch out to the right across the body, and the melted wax can be slightly seen to the upper left of the sun.

Pros
- Has the complete sun & feather pattern
- Sun consistently covers the magazine well.
- Blue tipped suppressor

Cons
- Melted wax is on the handle and not the body
- Hand guard isn't bright
- Only has a slight amount of melted wax showing






Bright Pattern #2
This only other pattern to completely cover the magazine well, this pattern's sun does not extend past its magazine. Most of the melted wax is hidden from view in this pattern.

Pros
- Has the complete sun & feather pattern
- The sun consistently covers the magazine well.
- The suppressor has a longer blue tip than pattern #1

Cons
- Sun does not cover as much area as pattern #1
- Barely any melted wax on the body
- Hand guard isn't bright






Bright Pattern #3
This pattern is similar to the above pattern, but the pattern has shifted to the right. The magazine well is now slightly uncovered by the sun.

Pros
- Has a very exposed sun & feather pattern
- The wax section of the motif is more pronounced
- Blue tipped suppressor

Cons
- The magazine well is not completely covered up by the sun.
-Melted wax is on the handle and not the body.
- Hand guard isn't bright.






Bright Pattern #4
This pattern has the Icarus motif moved even farther to the right, so that the image is in the middle of the body.

Pros
- Has all 3 parts of the Icarus motif showing (melted wax, sun & feather pattern).
- The wax section of the motif is even more pronounced
- Suppressor has bright blue on it

Cons
- A large portion of the sun is now cut off from the body.
- Suppressor has blue, but is no longer blue tipped
- Hand guard isn't bright

The Darkest Icarus Patterns

Not for everyone. Most people are at the opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to this version of the Icarus Fell. Some love them, some hate them.

The Trade Off
The dark versions do not have the Icarus motif on the main body of the gun, which leaves very few bright spots. The trade off is that these patterns are more rare compared to the bright patterned M4s.



Dark Pattern #1
This pattern has the least amount of feathers showing on the side of the magazine well. This is currently the darkest pattern.

Pros
- Darkest pattern there is.
- Has the least amount of feathers showing on the left side of the magazine well.
- Bright parts are only found on the stock, handle, hand guard, and suppressor of the M4.

Cons
- Some players prefer a motif on the main body of the M4.





Dark Pattern #2
This pattern has slightly more bright feathers protruding from the left side of the magazine well.

Pros
- Has a mInimal amount of feathers showing on the magazine well.
- Bright parts are only found on the stock, handle, hand guard, and suppressor of the M4.

Cons
- Some players prefer a motif on the main body of the M4.




Dark Pattern #3
This pattern has even more feathers protruding from the magazine well compared to the above patterns.

Pros
- Only has a small amount of feathers showing on the magazine well.
- Bright parts are only found on the stock, handle, hand guard, and suppressor of the M4.

Cons
- Some players prefer a motif on the main body of the M4.
- feathers cover almost half of the magazine well






Once again, this style ultimately comes down to personal preference.

Conclusion

This guide is mainly to be used as a reference for players looking to buy one of these types of patterns. Don't take this guide as the end all be all guide for what you should and shouldn't have. If you like a certain pattern, you should get that pattern!
