If you just started playing competitive and want to rank up, here are some basic and general pointers that you should follow.

1.Party/Lobby

Find competitive matches with known players in a lobby or party together.Playing with friends or players whom you have played with.Invite them and play like a team.Ofcourse you will have more co-operation, more detailed communication and better team work if you are participating in a competitive game with 4 other players you know and played with before.Ofcourse teamwork is the most important tool in your way to victory.

2.Maps

Choosing maps carefully.If you or your friends are below the average rank and don't know all of the maps well, the only thing to do is play competitive matches in the maps you know very well or perform better in.

3.Eco/Buy And Weapon Drop/Pick

Eco together & buying together and dropping/picking up weapons.When your team or a majority number of players in your team don't have enough money to buy their needed weapons to push or defend it is better to go for an eco round where you dont buy expensive guns and use your pistols to save money for the next round.It is better to eco together for balancing the team.If you have enough money it is mandatory that you drop for weapon for your teammate if he or she dosent have enough money to buy a weapon.And after winning a round its better to look for dropped better weapons, nades or difuse kits on the ground.It will help your team manage issues with money.Always remember not to use up all your money every round, keep or save for the next round you might not know at the begining what might happen to you.

4.Extra Buys

Extra buys.Always remember to buy armour.If you don't have money to buy armour it's better not to buy guns and eco for enough money to get armour side by side a good weapon.If you have some extra money if on CT side you must have to buy defusing kits. Buy not only necessary smokes,flashes and nades but also a bit extra.You don't know when a flash,smoke or nade may come in handy to defend or push.So better be safe then sorry and carry a bit extra amount of grenades if you have money.

5.Saves And Hunt

Saving and hunting.If your team gets totally owned by the opponent side and it seems like you are the only one left alive while there are three or more enemies still running and you are not in a good position and think you can't counter them, then it is better to save the gun you have by hiding or camping in any spot where you can get some free kills and save yourself and your gun.When it's the opposite situation like you have 4 people alive and one enemy remaining trying to save, let 2 stay and defend while the other 2 go and hunt.But you are in the Terro side and have only 2 members or 3 members while theres one enemy trying to save its better to be safe and stay with the bomb and not taking risks because it is not impossible for a single CT player to comeback from such a situation.

6.Weapon Selection

Weapon selectionis a very important strategic part.Don't always buy the most expensive weapon you can afford.Buy weapons according to your position and role in each and every round.Don't take roles or positions you aren't good at.Plan where each and every one of the players are going, where to push/where to def and who will with what kind of weapon before the round starts.

7.Plant Site Defence

Defending after plant.It's wise after getting a plant and defending by holding bomb site or camping near by.Because by only planting the bomb you don't win a round you will have to defend it too.Roaming around for kills after planting when still a majority number of enemies are alive may lead to your death and it will weaken the defence of the bomb site.

8.Warm Up

Warm up is very important to keep sharp in competetive matches.It is always better to play some death matches or casual (atleast 2 or 3 maps) before entering in a competetive match to keep you and your team at the best.

9.Usage Of Nades

Usage of grenades properly leads a team to victory.Don't miss use your nades. For example do not unnecessarily throw grenades you might run out of them just at the moment you need most.Perfect timing matters when it comes to nading always be aware while using flashes see that you don't blind your own teammate.Before passing through any place where a awper might be keeping watch always remember to smoke before crossing and before push always flash if you have one to buy some time and get a head start.

10.Teammate Selection

When you are going to invite friends to play with you it is important to select wisely.It is better to play with teammates who are close to your skill level because indivisual skill is less important then team work when it comes to winning a match usually.If you play with too high skilled teammates you may start slowing them down or play with too less skilled teammates they will slow you down.It's better to play with same skill level or at least a bit close level where you can balance each other,push and def syncing with your teammates.Play with people of your skill group or 1/2 ranks higher or lower.

11.Breaks

Well everyone knows this one but still reminding.Don't keep playing one match after another even if you are on a win streak take a little break, stop for a while.Gather up your energy and concentration again.

12.Communication

Communication inside team has to be strong.Report if you see enemy, report when you got killed by whom by what and where he might be going,with what amount of hp he has, report if your site is clear.If you are watching crossing spots then let your team know if you spotted some enemy or how many crossed.But always remember not to keep talking or disturbing your teammates.Don't talk unnecessarily cause if you do for example too much usage of mic may get in between your teammate and the enemy footstep sounds.

13.Training

Practise is the key to perfection.There might be a lot of nading spots and tactics that you don't know. There is also a huge number of glitches and great hiding spots in many different csgo maps that you aren't aware of.It dosen't matters which youtube tutorials you see all of the spots and tactics will be the same while some may contain a bit less and some may contain a bit more information.There is no end to learning.Always keep an eye out for good videos in youtube.Watch some nading videos.Watch professional tournament matches via csgo tv where you learn learn something new.Then try it out in casual matches or in a private lobby with friends or bots.
