How to get started with enjoying the game
The first part to playing ARK is to go into Library and find ARK

Now you will want to right click on ARK until the options come up.

Select Delete Local content and uninstall the game.
How to get the most out of ARK
Now that you have succesfully uninstalled ARK since you bought it on a Mac the most you can get out of the game is your money back.
By going to help.steampowered.com you can get a refund for the game if you haven't played longer than 2 hours or maybe a little over.
Why these steps were necessary
Playing ARK on a Mac OSX is like having HIV. You need 750$ to fix it.
I will reconsider updating this guide if the FPS rate goes above 15
and if I can player higher than Low settings on my MacBook Pro

Thanks for reading this guide

Huh, I play fine on a 2015 MacBook Air.

Does not even load on a 2017 iMac 5K machine. False advertising.

The developers need to either put some work into getting the Mac setup to work OR not allow the game to be purchased for Mac at all. I have an 27 inch iMac (3.4Ghz intel core i7, 8GB memory, with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2048 MB). I figured the same thing, must be just that my mac sucks. Game crashes every time. Get this though, I also run bootcamp with windows 10 on my mac. Game works just fine on Windows and looks gorgeous. So it's really an issue with the developers not fixing the Mac issues and only focusing on Windows. Makes sense though since there's such a small group of us Mac users that even purchased the game. Still letting us down though. I personally don't have that much space on my Windows partition, and with ARK being such a large game, the file takes up all my hardrive space. Would rather it be fixed for Mac if possible. I mean, I'm not even allowed the option to select my native resolution.

I really thought step one was going to be "get a PC for half the price"

ok, so yeah it runs terrible. My question is, here are the mods located? i am trying to join a server that keeps giving me a mod mismatch, and everyone is telling me to delete 100% of themods i have and try again to connect.

I tried single player on Mac for 100+ hours. Lowest settings. As I leveled up, built stuff, and explored, the game eventually just got too frustrating to continue. So, your guide is probably the best advice around for Mac owners :) At least right now: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197970682399/recommended/346110/

After the new year, I want either a top of the line iMac or a little black trash can. Either way, I want enough space for a good Boot Camp partition. I find it a small nuisance to switch over, but it seems it is faster than my HP desktop on either of my Mac laptops... So on a faster machine with good video, it should rock!

Seems perhaps the optimization gets better I might reconsider this guide in that case

I'm on a 15 inch MacBook Pro Retina, and I'm getting close to 30 fps. The damned bugs slow me down some!

I haven't played this game in a while on Mac i know theres been a bit of optimization but not enough not to lag.
