How to change your capital in Total War: Attila
My name is Verenidus and this is how you change your capital in Total War: Attila to ANY CITY in the game. This guide is based off the guide by Dimunyasha. I found the formatting and the russian to be a little off putting, so I've created this guide to give you simple step by step directions on how to change your capital. You can find the original guide here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=396749827&searchtext=capital

Step 1: Download EditSF from the Total War Center. Link to download: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?623719-EditSF-1-1-Added-Array-Editing

Step 2: Open your current save game through EditSF. You can find the save games at C:\Users\(InsertUsernameHere)\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Attila\save_games. Find the desired save game and open it.

Step 3: Open CAMPAIGN_SAVE_GAME > CAMPAIGN_ENV > CAMPAIGN_MODEL > WORLD > REGION_MANAGER > REGIONS_ARRAY

Step 4: There are 186 different regions marked 0-185. Open a REGIONS_ARRAY - # and click on REGIONS. A box will appear to the right giving you a value of the region and the name. Keep scrolling through until you find the desired capital. (if this guide gets popular I might go through and make a list of all the regions so you can skip this step)

Step 5 : Open CAMPAIGN_SAVE_GAME > CAMPAIGN_ENV > CAMPAIGN_MODEL > WORLD > FACTION_ARRAY > FACTION_ARRAY - 0. Click on FACTION. This is your current capital. Go to lines 8 and 9 and change the values to the value of the desired capital that you found in step 4.

Step 6: Save and exit out of EditSF (Heads up EditSF might lag and go unresponsive for a little bit. Just wait it out and it will save. Then you can exit out.)

Step 7: OPEN ATILLA AND PROFIT.

Thank You for all of your 5-star ratings of this guide and have fun! If you would like a video guide along with this written guide, let me know in the comments. Enjoy :D

(Reposting so others can find): For anyone that doesnt want to have to look through the region list in step 4, here is a map listing all the region values in the game: https://www.reddit.com/r/totalwar/comments/85a14v/attila_region_arrays_map/

I just found out that you can use this exact same method to change your capital in "A Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia" too!!! I just changed my capital in the game and it worked like a charm :)

I can get as far as loading the save game file in the editor, but as soon as I click the + beside "CAMPAIGN_SAVE_GAME" I get the message "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately." If I click COntinue, it carries on, but doesn't list any of the files, it's just empty. Any thoughts for a fix from anyone?

@winged_snail - The Map as well as the Region's array # are based on the entry number in the file, which begins counting at 0, however the VALUE that correlates to Region 0 is 1. For example when I just used this, the Region array # I needed was 60, but the VALUE I needed to use on the Faction array was 61. If you follow the instructions carefully this becomes clearer

Edit edit: I realized when I set it to 97 it showed up with the place that shows up as 96 on the one map, and when I finally tried to set it to the neighboring province which is 163, it came out as the place listed as 162, so on a punt I set it to 98 and it came out right. For some reason on my computer it always comes out as the region one number less?

(the place named Bolghar), it's also listed as 97 on the list Takesito shared a link to, with Hafn as 96 on that list, but setting it 97 clearly changed my capital to Hafn so what gives?
