New Game+ Graviton Beam Emitter

Description
Adds the Graviton Beam Emitter, a BLAME! inspired weapon for soldier use.

Changes the gameplay into a more fast-paced, reckless and overkill experience overall. You get the weapon after researching Alien Plasma Rifle, which is very early on.

The weapon is lightweight, features two firing modes, 1000 ammo, extreme damage, 1,5 tile area of effect per shot, low TU per shot, very high accuracy and comes in unlimited amount for all soldiers to use. Turn entire levels into burned wastelands, demolish houses and murder multiple aliens in a single turn. Use manual fire to destroy walls to walk through them.

BONUS: For added exciting challenge, try to beat the game with a limited 1-4 hero squad using GBEs.


SPECIAL NOTE:

This is not completely a cheat mod. I called it a newgame+ for a reason.

You will kill aliens fast, yes, but relying on this weapon has some things you will notice:
1. Loot is extremely limited due to explosions = overall less money for the Geoscape
2. The confidence the gun gives you encourages you to rush = easier to die
3. Less money = cant afford armor. You may end up running through the whole game naked
4. Less money = cant afford bases. Aliens can terrorize much of the world easier
5. Less money = less upgrades. You may need to skip a lot of tiers to survive

gave 3 of my troops this. one walked up to a tree, an alien walked around the tree, another one of my soldiers snapped to it... missed. killed my first soldier, that was hugging a tree, the alien 2 shot the second guy. third guy panics and runs away.

oh boi that mod is old... aaaaany way my soldiers love to kill themselves while reaction firing... and dont get me started with what will happen if they get mind controlled

Hmm, I'm comparing GBE with a another newer weapon mod and it seems the compability could be fixed by simply deleting researches.xml from the GBE mod.

I'd need to reinstall xenonauts to test it out, but I'm not willing to go through the effort today.

It seems to be an imcompatibilty issue with the Xenonauts X-Pansion Pack.

Stand by, I'm gonna have to look into how to do it and then explain it.

This mod should be compatible with absolutely every mod available, with the only caveat that if any other mod changes the [alien plasma rifle] research, then it'll need to be edited to unlock at start or unlock with whatever other research is available in the newly modded game.

But yeah, I'm gonna go look how to make this work.

How do you change the reseraches.xml file?

I'm getting errors when I try to edit the file.

Is this mod only compatible with X-Division and nothing else?

@Vincent: Depends. If X-Division has the regular alien plasma rifle research, then yeah it will work. However if it has changed that research then you need to edit the researches.xml manually of GBE to unlock freely at start or with some other research project that happens in X-Division.
