How to spot mimic chests

There is an easy way to check visually, is any chest mimic or not.

It's very simple

When you looking some normal chests, there are no fasteners or locks, but mimic chests have.
Iron mimic chests have visible fasteners, and wooden ones have central locks.



Of course there is always a way to just attack chests to make sure, but risk destroying wooden ones, and loose content. Or just shield-bash them with parry, and they wake up.
And of corse, you can always throw a Lloyd's Talisman to them, and they pops open, and never attack you, but... where is the fun then?

Like others said, if you have Poison/Toxic Mist or Dark Fog and have identified a Mimic, cast right on top of it and it will begin losing health, but without waking up.
Wait until it's at literally 1 HP remaining, attack to finish it off. Super easy.

i always just hit it with my weapon before i open it

put the chest between your camera and character, if the camera pases through, mimic. if not, then its probably trapped anyway

Or just look for chests surrounded in bloody spots. lol.

So rubbish is when you destroy a chest... well that explains a lot. I am missing a ton of items then.
