Valyrian Steel: Weapons of Ice and Fire

Descripción
NOTE: THESE MODELS ARE BASED ON THE BOOKS.

This mod adds Valyrian steel weapons from George R.R. Martin's book series A Song of Ice and Fire. The textures are in 2048*2048 resolution.

This mod is very much a work in progress. It's in working order, but only seven swords are currently included. My hope is to eventually include all Valyrian steel weapons ever mentioned in A Song of Ice and Fire, but that is a long time coming.

Feedback

The models and textures are based entirely on the descriptions in the books (in so far as the books describe them, which is usually in exquisite detail). If you feel that they look wrong based solely on the show, please keep that to yourself.

That said, any other comments, suggestions, requests, or even complaints would be much appreciated; I really do want to improve this mod.

Please provide honest comments and/or ratings, preferably after trying out the items. If you choose to rate this mod negatively, I only ask that you take the time to explain your complaint.

Power Summary

The weapons added by this mod are certainly powerful, but I've done my best to make sure they're not overpowered. If you find them to be overpowered, please let me know so I can change their stats.

Currently, they all have slightly increased speed ("The sword was fast. That is the nature of Valyrian steel." --Lord Randyll Tarly). Ice is the slowest, with a speed of 0.7750 (vanilla greatswords: 0.7500), since it is an enormous sword with 35 base damage (dragonbone greatsword: 25).

If you find these stats OP, check the "Crafting Information" section below. You might change your mind.

Current Progress

Currently, the mod includes Lord Eddard Stark's greatsword Ice; Lord Randyll Tarly's greatsword Heartsbane; Jon Snow's (Steam censors this word) sword Longclaw (originally belonging to House Mormont); the Valyrian steel arakh used by the sellsword captain Caggo; Jaime Lannister's sword Oathkeeper (reforged from Ice, later given to Brienne of Tarth); Visenya Targaryen's sword Dark Sister; and Blackfyre, the sword of the Targaryen kings.

Longclaw Mechanics

Longclaw, a (Steam censors this word)/"hand-and-a-half" sword, can be used with one hand or two. To wield it with two hands, equip the item "Longclaw (2-Hand Equip)" in the left hand. Longclaw will then act as a greatsword, dealing 25% more damage, being able to block, and dealing critical damage 20% of the time.

Despite Longclaw's 1H-2H switching, this mod does NOT require SKSE. That said, my no-dependency workaround isn't perfect; wielding Longclaw with one hand causes slightly odd animations (they look okay, but strange). This is because it's still set to use two-hand animations despite only requiring one hand, meaning the player will hold his/her left-handed weapon or shield up against Longclaw. It doesn't look wrong per se, but rather odd. There's no way around this AFAIK (without requiring SKSE). The more important glitch mentioned here earlier has been fixed (yay).

The two-handed grip item for Longclaw is free to craft (at the Skyforge with the Arcane Blacksmith and Dragon Armor perks) and has no damage, no value, no weight, and no model, but wielding it will make Longclaw essentially a two-handed sword in appearance and in function. Longclaw will still be considered one-handed for the purposes of skill scaling and training (I'll try to change this, but it's not a high priority). The auxiliary item does nothing without Longclaw equipped.

Crafting Information

All Valyrian steel weapons require an "ingot"-type item named "Spell-Forged Blade." Keep in mind that, despite the name, recipes don't just use one. This item can be found as random loot anywhere where one might find ingots, starting at level 42 (yes, that was intentional) and appearing more often at levels 46 and 50.

Spell-Forged Blades can also be made from a dragon priest dagger, a steel ingot, a dragon scale, and a dragon bone at the Skyforge. This requires the Smithing perks Arcane Blacksmith and Dragon Armor, as do all other Valyrian recipes. The reason why they're so expensive to craft is that you shouldn't be able to at all; while a few master blacksmiths can rework Valyrian steel, the art of creating it was lost to the Doom of Valyria. I included a dragon priest dagger in the recipe to help justify this, since such daggers could arguably be related to Valyrian steel.

Each Valyrian steel weapon requires an uncommon or rare book, mostly to add to the experience of crafting the item. These books (or at least their titles) generally relate to some aspect of the sword in question.

Crafting recipes:
* Ice . . . . . . . . . . . . 7 Spell-Forged Blades, "Fall of the Snow Prince," 1 Diamond, 2 Silver Ingots, 3 Steel Ingots, 4 Leather, 4 Leather Strips
* Longclaw . . . . . . . 5 Spell-Forged Blades, "The Old Ways," 1 Moonstone Ore, 1 Silver Ingot, 2 Flawless Garnets, 2 Steel Ingots, 2 Leather, 3 Leather Strips
* Heartsbane . . . . . 6 Spell-Forged Blades, "The Posting of the Hunt," 1 Daedra Heart, 1 Flawless Ruby, 3 Steel Ingots, 3 Leather, 4 Leather Strips
* Valyrian arakh . . . 3 Spell-Forged Blades, "Death of a Wanderer," 1 Leather, 2 Gold Ingots, 3 Steel Ingots, 4 Leather Strips
* Oathkeeper . . . . . 4 Spell-Forged Blades, "Glories and Laments," 2 Steel Ingots, 2 Leather, 3 Leather Strips, 5 Gold Ingots, 8 Flawless Rubies
* Dark Sister . . . . . . 4 Spell-Forged Blades, "Brothers of Darkness," 2 Dragon Scales, 2 Leather, 3 Leather Strips, 3 Flawless Rubies
* Blackfyre . . . . . . . 6 Spell-Forged Blades, "The Dragon War," 2 Dragon Scales, 2 Leather, 3 Flawless Rubies, 4 Leather Strips

Item Testing

For those of you who don't want to wait to craft these items, or for those of you who want to test an item prior to crafting it, the item IDs are below (the first two digits will vary):
Ice: ??002868
Heartsbane: ??00182C
Longclaw: ??0073DC (??0073DF for the auxiliary grip item)
Caggo's arakh: ??00183C
Oathkeeper: ??001828
Dark Sister: ??00182E
Blackfyre: ??00182D

Justification For Models

Ice is described as being as wide as a man's hand and taller than Robb Stark (which probably puts it around 6 feet or 1.83 m), with a dark, smoky blade. There are visible ripples deep in its steel from being "folded a hundred times in the forging." George R.R. Martin seems to be fond of giving his weapons three fullers, so I followed that pattern.

Longclaw is described as looking rather like a longsword, but noticeably longer and with three deep fullers in the metal. Like all Valyrian steel, its blade is dark and rippled.

Heartsbane isn't really described in the books, except in that it's a Valyrian steel greatsword. I mostly just made it the way I'd imagined it.

Caggo's Valyrian steel arakh is, like Heartsbane, never really described in its own right. Since sellswords and Valyrians are both quite fond of gold, I gave part of the blade a gilded siding. George R.R. Martin makes great use of "inlaid scrollwork" in his descriptions of weapons and armor, hence the inlaid scrollwork in the siding.

Oathkeeper and Widow's Wail are described as having ripples of black and dark red, "like waves of blood and night upon some steely shore." Both have golden lion's-head pommels with ruby eyes. While Widow's Wail is more ornate, they are both richly ornamented, and Oathkeeper is three inches longer with three fullers deeply incised in the metal.

Dark Sister and Blackfyre aren't described in the books, but they both belong to the Targaryen family. For that reason, I gave both of them a red-and-black color scheme. I also gave Dark Sister several draconic aspects and a three-headed-dragon crest on the handguard (from the cover of The World of Ice and Fire). Although Blackfyre isn't described in the books, it is depicted by other, semi-canonical sources. DARN CHARACTER LI

I appreciate it, though in the interest of full disclosure, I haven't touched this in quite some time. Given the overall pace, I might never get around to all of them. Then again, the release of a new ASOIAF book or a new Elder Scrolls game might very well spur me to speed things up.

There have also been a lot of requests for Dawn, which is currently in a long-ignored, half-finished state.

I'm aware that's a little vague. Sorry about that; it would be a little too verbose to give a full explanation there.

The item IDs are based on mod load order, so I can't tell you exactly what they will be in your case. Specifically, the first two digits indicate that they came from this mod. For that reason, although the digits will vary from person to person, they will be the same between swords for a given person.

Due to all of this, what you need to do in order to find the IDs is type help "Longclaw" 4 and replace all of the ??s in my listed IDs with the first two digits of the result.

The details of the command I listed are pretty arbitrary. The "Longclaw" part just needs to be the name of one of the items in this mod, with the caveat that the name "Ice" won't work because it will match too many game resources. As for the "4" part, that merely filters out some additional information that you don't need. It's not strictly necessary.

what do you mean the first 2 digits vary?

It's available in both locations. Nexus Mods has versions for standard and SE, Bethesda for SE only. I don't think I've uploaded an SE version on the Steam Workshop. They should be fairly easy to find, but I think I've posted links in these comments somewhere if you need them.

Can this be ported over to the Bethesta modsso it can be used for special edition. If not is it available on the nexus?

I'll keep that in mind when I remake Longclaw.

As for Brothers of Darkness (or any other book), I'd recommend searching the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages (UESP) or the Skyrim Wikia. Apart from that, it should be obtainable as random loot.
